wadepm reacted to Heirloom_Tomato in Scenario Play Options for F&R
Four of the scenarios you have listed are mine. I made the recommendation to play as attacker in each of them as attacking was the inspiration for the scenario. There are an equal number of AI plans for both sides and you might find the battle to be more enjoyable playing as the defender. However you decide to play, I hope you have fun.

First impression is that the title "Fire and Rubble" is very fitting, and that the maps are extremely well made. It's amazing how they've captured an entirely different atmosphere from any of the other modules... yet again. Kudos to the company, the designers, and to the testers.
Also, whoever it was that used to always beg for the schwimmwagen may be very pleased with some of the content in this module!

wadepm reacted to MikeyD in Was the Russian T-34 Really the Best Tank of WW2?
The description above of IS tanks sounds like an old KV heavy tank story retold. Its rare to hear of IS-2 operating as a single vehicle on its own in 1945. Even more rare to have Stukas dive bombing anything in 1945.

Nobody expected Cold War to happen, so let's wait and see.

Indeed. I have been here for 22 years and seen this same argument a million times. Always ends the same way...with the release of a new module!

Then we're gonna complain about our wives and their eternal crusade to keep us busy and prevent us having fun.

Very interested! For me personally even more interesting than Kursk. Nipe's book is first class.

What we may be experiencing here is a change of generations in the hobby. Us old-timers wanted to primarily play the German side, we loved early WW2, Barbarossa and had many mods in CM1 for Poland '39, Fall of France and Sealion etc.
One gets the impression that the new members to this hobby are more interested in fighting almost exclusively as the US in late war periods where the US gets to kick ass. North Africa is ignored cos it was primarily a Brit show until Op Torch, and the US didn't do all that well in places like Kasserine etc. So, no CM:Afrika Korps.
The introduction of Steam distribution means that BF is on its way to pandering to the largest "lowest common denominator" market which, as noted elsewhere, seems to be younger and primarily interested in playing as the US kicking ass.

The Russians are fascinated with the Italian theater. "What were the Western Allies doing over there...?

It's a nice image. But, it also portends that when Defense work conflicts with entertainment product, the latter will always lose. Most of us old-timers have a lot of love for the small BFC working on these niche products and have supported them since 1999. It's a lot harder to be equally understanding with a defense contractor which in my experience is a very lucrative biz. Unless they are getting screwed on their defense work fees, BFC should really be able to now afford the staff so the release schedule can be more reasonable (and we can get to early WW2 in our lifetimes).
