  1. Bugwar, I'm happy you're satisfied with an all-seeing AI. If playing a game against an AI that knows where all your units are and knows all your moves gives you satisfaction then good for you. You said if you won easily all the time you wouldn't play. Playing against an AI that sees all is at least as bad. There are tactics you can't do because the AI will see what you're doing. So if you like frustration, continue playing against an all-seeing AI. Sooner or later you'll catch on and will give it up. There are plenty of good games out there that don't cheat like this. In fact I don't know of another one that does. Nobody would buy it. And nobody would have bought this one if the problem was widely known. An all-seeing AI is a broken AI. It needs to be fixed. Even Brit agrees it needs to be fixed. It's only you and a few other kool aid drinkers who don't agree. Every forum has kool aid drinkers. No matter how bad a game is, no matter what's wrong with it, the game is great and the dev is great. It doesn't matter if you win or lose sometimes. The AI is still broken. It doesn't matter if Brit has improved the AI over the last year. It's still broken. It doesn't need to be improved more. It needs to be fixed. If you think it's fine to play against a broken AI, good for you. I don't. And my freedom of speech is just as important as yours.
  2. Nobody is saying he shouldn't eat. Many indie devs work full time and work on their games afterwards. Who cares if sometimes you win and sometimes the AI wins? The AI is broken. It should never have been released this way a year ago. It should have been fixed sometime during the last year. Stop making excuses for someone who published a broken game and refuses to fix it.
  3. Brit has said he won't fix the AI and so nobody expects him to. Imo, playing against the computer opponent is worthless and a waste of time. So I'm going to chalk up the loss, move on, and continue playing Empire Enhanced. But when the subject of EoS comes up on other game forums, instead of pushing the game like I've been doing, I'll be warning people against it.
  4. This makes no sense whatsoever. I mean, none. How are people supposed to know? Let's say your sub goes for the AI battleship and will hit it in three turns. The AI sees it coming and sends a destroyer to intercept. So the AI sunk your sub by cheating. How would you know? People have been getting screwed by the AI all along and didn't have a clue.
  5. I've talked some about Empire Enhanced made by Mark Kinkead at Killer Bee Software. Single dev. Similar game. Here's news for you folks. The AI doesn't cheat. It doesn't know any more than a human player. So, is the AI brilliant? No. Is it good enough? Yes. The basic AI is set up to search, expand, attack, etc. Just what you need in an Empire type game. And it doesn't cheat. EoS should do the same. The units need to all work the way they should, not make too many dumb mistakes and should have fog of war. When that is done and there aren't any glaring bugs the game will be finished. Right now it isn't.
  6. Maybe. But other indy devs do it. It's really something that is MANDATORY if you're going to publish a game. If you can't handle it then don't try to sell the game. The fact that this game was sold for months without anyone knowing about this problem isn't good. Regardless of the work involved, providing a decent AI without all-seeing is a moral obligation. But it looks like it's not gonna happen.
  7. +1 Couldn't have said it better myself. What's tragic is I've been pushing for work on the AI over the last year. This could have been done. Instead there was too much time devoted to non-essentials like the map of North Africa. It's a real shame. This game could have been an all-time classic.
  8. I'm not looking for Brit to reply to the nonsense. Just to answer the question. If he's not going to fix it, I'll simply put the game away and forget it. No problem. There are just too many games out there with decent AIs that don't cheat like this one. But if he's going to fix it in a reasonable period of time I'll hold on and start playing when it's ready. I didn't start these flame wars. Just responded to bs posts. EoS is basically a good game and Brit is a fine person. It's unfortunate the game didn't sell better and we're left with a bad situation.
  9. You can fix all you want but you're still an @ss. I don't tell you how to play your games. Don't presume to tell me how to play mine.
  10. More bs. Now you're trying to tell me how to play a game that I paid for. What an @ss.
  11. Real frankly slaver I don't give a **** about your opinion. I paid for the game and I'd like an answer as to whether or not a huge bug will be fixed. The AI is broken. If you like playing a game with a broken AI then fine. But I don't. What we need is for Brit to come on the forum and let us know if this will be fixed or not. I'm getting sick and tired of all the kool aid drinkers coming on the forum giving me a hard time for asking a simple question.
  12. I'm getting a bit sick and tired of you playing fanboy. And your condescension. Watch my lips here. Brit had already said he was going to take out the all seeing AI. He knows it needs to be changed. That's not in question. He already knows it. Then he said he was discontinuing working on the game. So I asked a simple question. Was he still going to make that change or not. That's not a rant. That's asking a question. What is your friggin problem? If in your humble opinion you want to play against a broken AI that's your privilege. If IMHO I don't, that's mine.
  13. First of all, it would be nice if you could write without being snarky. It appears that Joel doesn't know what he's talking about. His answers to some questions were "I don't know." Perhaps it would have been better to interview Gary rather than Joel. Gary would have known what he was talking about. Then in the options pic that V22 Osprey provided it's clear that the player can determine if he wants the AI to use FOG. I can't imagine they put in that option if there really is none. Joel said the AI knows strategically where enemy units are, but not tactically. That makes sense for a game like WitE. You're playing divisions and corps. These units are so big that in RL the enemy would know roughly where they are strategically. Regardless, whether the AI in WitE uses FOG or not is irrelevant. In a 4X game like Empire it doesn't work. Knowing strategically and tactically where the enemy is is asinine. I've played Empire/Empire Deluxe over the years more than any other game. None used an all-seeing AI. The latest, Empire Enhanced, with a mod that I made the AI is excellent without this cheat. So it can be done. Brit has said he wants to eliminate this. There are some tweaks he needs to implement first. But since Brit has said he wants to change it, why would you people disagree? Why are you people making such a big deal out of this? He already said it. So I've been waiting. However, he just came out and said he will discontinue work on the game except for minor bug fixing. So I'd like to know if he still plans to fix this larger bug. And if so, what kind of time frame. That's all.
  14. I just went over to Matrix Games. Looked at all the threads and read the ones that discussed the AI in the thread topic. I also looked at the product page. I saw Nothing that said WitE has an all-seeing AI. The AI got a lot of positive comments but Nothing about it being all-seeing. So how about providing a link to back up your statement.
  15. It is not only a bug it is a huge design flaw. It is not a compromise. It was designed to be temporary. Brit said earlier he wants to eliminate it. Now that he's giving up on the game, and I don't blame him, I'm sorry it didn't sell better but I did all I could to advertise and there were at least a few sales as a direct result of my efforts. The game should never have been published this way. I've never, in 30 years of computer gaming, seen a game with an AI that sees all the player's units and moves. It's a definite game breaker. I've said from the beginning that this game has a lot of potential. It looks like it won't quite reach it because it needs a terrain editor, but almost. However the AI absolutely needs to be fixed. It's something Brit owes to his customers. So I'd like to know if it will be fixed, and if so, some sort of rough time frame. If you want to be a fanboy and go along with the game no matter what's wrong, I quite frankly don't understand it, but to each his own I guess.
  16. The BIG question is will you fix the "all seeing AI?" This is a HUGE bug.
  17. In that case I withdraw my comments as they pertain to this thread. But not to their general importance. Since I never play multi I'll just let you all discuss.
  18. Did everybody miss the point I made? The cause of the problem has nothing to do with resources. It has nothing to do with the economy. The cause of the problem is an all seeing AI that knows where your fleet is and can mobilize a task force to destroy it. You can limit cities. You can accumulate resources. But if the AI knows exactly what you're doing and where you are from the beginning of the game, you're going to continue having this problem unless the AIs sometimes fight each other. What you all are discussing is putting a bandaid on a broken arm when it's the broken arm that needs to be fixed.
  19. Here's really what the problem is. The AI came along, wiped out your navy and took all your sea resources. How? Because it knew where your navy and all your resources were. This is why I don't like the all seeing AI and why fixing this should be imo a priority.
  20. Ok, I uninstalled the game and reinstalled from the file I just downloaded. It appears to be the most recent version. No licensing request came up and there were no updates available. Btw, when I went to uninstall I noticed there was no entry in the windows uninstall list. Doesn't EoS put anything in the registry?
  21. Ok, real frankly the DRM isn't a problem for me. Just thought I'd like to have the new copy if possible. A lot of buyers though I think would really like to have it. I just thought I'd try and download the game from my account and it worked. Is this the new version?
  22. What if I redo my hard drive and want to reinstall? The only copy of the install file that I have includes the DRM.
  23. Several people at MG have already written they bought the game after it was taken out. So it's already helped. There are a LOT of people who won't buy a game if it takes an internet connection to register. My game took the DRM out with the latest update. How do I download the DRM free file?
  24. Yeah, there's a discussion about this right now at Matrix Games. Should bring some sales.
  25. Hey Brit, thanks for this. Bug fixes are the most important. Btw, I plugged EoS on the Slitherine gaming forum. Hope it gets something. You have a good Thanksgiving also.
