  1. Yeah, the link seems to suggest what I have slowly come up with myself. Ductility involves tensile forces and malleability involves compressive forces, but both demonstrate plasticity and therefore malleability is plasticity involving compresseive forces wheras ductility is plasticity involving tensile forces.
  2. A ductile material can undergo a lot of plastic deformation before it fails. I have never heard or used the word "malleability" in 10 years of academic work, by the way, as opposed to "ductility". Best regards, Thomm
  3. I think the rubber ball analogy is simply wrong. Plasticity as far as I am aware is the ability of a material to undergo deformation when subject to force and to remain in its new shape after the force is removed. That is not the rubber ball. I'm perfectly clear on what ductility and malleability are; it is the relationship with plasticity that concerns me. I think, in fact, I have answered my own question, as malleability and ductility seem to be subdivisions of plasticity. As far as I know, the opposite of brittle is toughness.
  4. quote: Plasticity is a measure of how readily something can be deformed and then will return to it's rest state without damage. For example, squeeze a rubber ball, it will deform, then spring back when the applied force is released. Isn't this a definition of elasticity? I've been thinking about this; aren't malleability and ductility merely forms of plasticity? Each taking a different take on the forces involved, compressive for malleability and tensile for ductility?
  5. Could anybody tell me the difference between plasticity and malleability? The books I have compare elasticity with plasticity and malleability with ductility, but plasticity seems, for a non-engineer like me, to have a lot in common with malleability, so what is the difference. Thanks in advance for any help.
  6. This has been asked several times over the years. The answer was no, there were no plans to update.
  7. My son appeared on the internet page of his football team with photo and name. I didn't quite like to idea myself, but everybody in the club had it done so he didn't want to miss out. The team has now been reorganised and the page removed. However, if you google his name and club it still appears in the results and can be accessed. I don't like this at all. Is there any way of removing the page for good?
  8. Wahrig gives both Sturzkampfflugzeug and Sturzkampfbomber as the abbreviation of Stuka.
  9. Just to back up the general drift; I found the top-down FC2 more immersive than the 3D BoB game.
  10. I have a German language CDV version and had the same problem with patching. I rang them and asked for a disc, which after some reluctance - a policy of not sending out discs to people with internet access,- they duly did.
  11. Any possibility then that Flight Commander 2 will be revamped or people allowed to revamp it themselves? I agree though that I will continue to support these sorts of outfits which was why I orderd direct instead of getting my copy via CDV
  12. Agree. Allies win strategically and operationally - which is what counts. The game concentrates on the tactical aspect where the Germany excelled. These much vaunted Übertanks squander resources that could be used more effectively elsewhere, strategically in submarine production perhaps. Then again no tank is an Übertank. You have to play to your strengths no tank is an übertank if you play against it right.
  13. In Flight Commander 2 from the same Battlefront stable, you were able to change the generated names - would that be a nice option?
  14. All three installed, but I still play CMBO more than BB. Perhaps CMAK will change things
  15. I bought the CDV version of CMBB but have ordered direct this time to get the real McCoy.
  16. My experience with CDV was not very positive; I've already preordered from the site - that would be my recommendation too
  17. Wasn't there a boardwargame on the Gran Chaco war? (in Command magazine perhaps?) Would that provide any info?
  18. Thanks for the offer. I tried the Gregor Bellmann address last night but my email was returned with fatal errors. I'll try again today and if there is still no joy I shall take you up on your offer. Cheers
  19. Opening this one up again. CMBB has now moved on to 1.03 and I still have the same problems as expressed on this page. Is there any chance of getting the patches on a CD or something?
  20. I'm afraid my working requirements are more important than my gaming requirements. I was rather hoping the patch would be released on CD with one of the computer game magazines here in Germany but no joy.
