    iPad?

As developers are beginning to work on 'serious' wargames for the iPad (for example, see Shenandoah Studio) I was thinking that 'TacOps' would make a great iPad game. I have no idea what it would take to port it to the iPad, but something for the Major to consider if he's tired of relaxing in the sun <grin>
  2. If you go all the way out to the main Battlefront Forum and scroll down past all of the other game titles you'll find an Opponent Finder forum. That or what Xian said <grin>
  3. Works great- absolutely seamless and easy.
  4. I may have missed something... didn't see that the notes said play one side or the other so I tried as the Americans first... SPOILER follows... do NOT read on if you want to play as the Americans. Barkmann sat and never moved, never fired. It was a rollover by the Americans, needless to say. I guess this one should have said to play only as the Germans vs. the AI Still fun and good practice, though...
  5. Same experience (also on a Mac)... the number keypad acts exactly like the numbers on the keyboard. I've tried hitting 'num lock' and other combinations, and nothing seems to have an impact. Not a show-stopper by any means, but it would be nice to have access to the full range of keyboard/numerical pad orders that the manual talks about.
  6. One more voice added to the chorus... it's soooo good to be able to play CM again native in the Mac OS, and CMBN is an extraordinary addition to the franchise. Thanks to all the Battlefront crew for the work they've done and continue to do.
  7. Very fun seeing so many old forum members coming back... Like so many others, I never got into CM:SF because of lack of interest in the subject/era, but I've monitored the forums and waited for Mac support (and a return to WW2) and now they're here. I actually kept the last Mac laptop that supported OS 9 solely for playing the old CM titles- I guess I can finally retire that beast now.
  8. Outstanding news! Like the rest, I have pre-ordered and now eagerly await the release. It's gonna be great to be back!
  9. "Well that depends on “your Mac“ now doesn’t it?" But of course. My current hardware runs CM:SF pretty well, especially with the graphics options dialed down a bit. "What’s detailed in my signature block works, an SE30 or G3 PowerBook wont (but given your comment about BootCamp you should be OK)." Yup. What I'll be very interested in seeing (eventually, when you can) is what graphics settings you run the game with given your hardware.
  10. As in: I am... as I have been reading the 'Bois de Baugin' AAR. I experimented briefly with CM:SF via Bootcamp, but never tried to really get into it for a variety of reasons. It is amazing to see and read about all that the new engine can do, though. In their day, CM:BO and its offspring were the best tactical sims ever, and it looks like CM:BN is going to be fantastic. And to think I'll be able to run it again on my Mac natively? Oooohhhhh... too sweet!
  11. I'm curious to know what settings for graphics the Mac testers are using? Can you max out the graphical options on your hardware or do you have to settle for lower quality graphics in order to get smooth play? Whatever the answer, it sure is nice to be able to contemplate playing CM again without having to go the Bootcamp route or rebooting into OS 9.
  12. In today's "Seattle Times": http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002705908_stryker27m.html
  13. Same problem here on the same sort of machine (G4/933 with Nvidia MX4 with 64MB). The cursor is fine, though, on my TiPB (G4/800 with ATI RageM7(?) with 32MB). I tried various mice/drivers to see if anything would help but no luck (Logitech MX700 with its own latest drivers or USB Overdrive, then the standard Apple mouse with only its own drivers active). Fortunately, no other apparent effects on graphics or gameplay, so more of just an annoyance rather than a show-stopper.
  14. Andreas, I use one of the older 22" Apple displays (1600x1024) and CMBO and CMBB look great on it. If you can find one at a good price, you won't regret it. Dave
  15. Yes, should work fine. I've had PBEM games scattered over three machines at times (desktop Mac, laptop Mac and desktop PC) and they've all gone along just fine. If you have any problem with your email app corrupting turns, be sure to manually compress them first with Stuffit or Zip and then they go through just fine.
  16. Yup, runs great on an 800 TiBook I just got. In fact, the graphics look better on the laptop than on my desktop machine (a 967 MHz with an nVidia GeForce MX video card with twice the memory). Go figure... I got the 800 at Smalldog Electronics, and recommend them highly.
  17. The new engine is being developed concurrently with CMAK. It is now referred to as 'CMX2'. You can do a search for further info, otherwise, in the thread announcing CMAK they talk a little bit about the new engine.
  18. Doubt it. My understanding is that VPC doesn't support 3D cards, so you'd be back to software rendering (at best). It seems we must stick with our older hardware for now and wait for CMX2. Dave
  19. Thank you for the update, Hans. That is excellent news. I will check for them right away...
  20. I'm curious... has there been any further activity with this project? Any Panzerblitz scenario conversions to CMBB released yet?
  21. Spot on, Karl. Please do what I've done. Send emails to Apple complaining about this and requesting they put some effort into fully supporting Classic RAVE. I've also sent emails to various gaming sites and writers requesting that they do what they can to prod Apple on this.
  22. ...and as always, if for some reason the Classic RAVE extension found its way into your system folder, you must remove it and trash it.
  23. Just so you know... 9.2 is not as 'friendly' to CM as 9.0.4, so if you can get by with that version of the OS, I'd suggest you use it instead.
  24. Yikes! Don't do that, Michael! At worst, you just need to restart after playing CMBO or CMBB. Like I noted above, as long as I stay in either app, I can play without problems. (Since my last post, I have found that the lag is still there, though it seems more random. Sometimes I've played several games and used other apps and have had no problems, while at other times the lag is back. I'm frankly baffled, but would be very interested to know how things worked if/when you do test your older video card.)
