1. First FUN battle I've had in CMSF! Kudos! And yeah, the AI did an "adequate" job of defending the village -- but I learned more from this battle than any other one I've played. This would be a great tutorial mission. One question -- I noticed that I didn't get any points for "Preserve admin Building" and "Preserve Minaret". Yet both buildings were untouched and cleared of enemy forces -- could this be a bug? I mean, the building was quite shot up but it was still standing and the minaret took hardly any damage at all. Love to see the Grozny map! This makes me want to tackle a scenario. Hmmmmmm. -- nick
2. RIght -- but I find it quite difficult to tell when the letter is dimmed. I have to concentrate on it -- which isn't what I want to be doing in the heat of battle. Maybe BFC could make this a bit more pronounced in the patch? -- nick
3. THAT will help. Right now one of the most frustrating things is giving the wrong command by being on the wrong tab -- typically between target and move. Is there some way to make what mode we are in (Move, Target, etc) more obvious? -- nick
4. Just curious -- what's the name of the demo scenario? I'm just curious to try it out and I figure it's included in the game, too.
5. Heh -- yes -- but what is it in the game? Looks like another FAQ entry. -- nick
6. "IEDs that malfunction can’t be made to detonate no matter what" Which is fine -- except how do you know? realistically, you wouldn't -- maybe -- I've never seen one so I don't know if there would be any feedback or not. But from a game perspective, it's frustrating when the IED simply doesn't work. And I don't trust the game enough yet because of other problems to just say "oh, it must have malfunctioned". Is there some indication when a malfunction occurs that I'm missing? 'cause I've had a Stryker park on top of an IED that I targetted specifically at that vehicle for several turns and the IED never detonated. I just don't know why. And that's frustrating. -- nick
7. "Yesterday, I played the second battle in the list and the US force just stood there. Didn't move one inch from their deployment zone. What's the point of these scenarios if the AI wont do anything?" Yeah, me too -- I wonder if that one is only supposed to be played from Blue? I've read that the tactical vignettes scenarios are good -- I'm going to give those a try. And I'm sure that Battlefront will fix the problems with QBs -- I trust them on that score. But I am slightly disappointed with the game so far. -- nick
8. Agreed -- heh -- I replayed the training town attack mission 5 times. Thank you, Battlefront! -- nick
9. Were you able to get your Javelin teams to target the bunkers? I wasn't and I noticed someone else posted the same thing. -- nick
10. Hee, hee -- thanks, joe for this thread! My first computer wargame was Eastern Front for the Atari 400. Although at least with CMBO we had the demo to play -- which was what got me to buy the game. NOT a complaint, just an observation. CMBO still rocks -- Eastern Front for the Atari 400, not so much! -- nick
11. Some of the best missions in Wing Commander (anyone remember that?) were only seen if you were failing. I'd like to see all that the campaign has to offer. I just want to play!
12. Neat! Can't wait to try out the Toyota pickups! I wonder what the differences in gameplay will be between the various M1 variants? If I have one M1A1SA Abrams (Situational Awareness upgrade) and one M1A2 SEP Abrams (Systems Enhancement Package) what will the effect be gamewise? Can't wait for the game! I've pre-ordered every Battlefront game and never been disappointed. -- nick
13. Ummmm....so, really, where is the pre-order page? -- nick
14. Any chance BFC could get prints made of the cover, similar to the Panther prints that were offered to CMBO pre-orders? And at a comparable price? Probably just dreaming, but that print sure would look nice above the computer.
15. MadMatt, is there ANY chance for one email per turn for PBEM? A "trusted" option instead of the current "tournament" option, so to speak? Just curious,
16. Dance of Death Steve, I've seen the Dance of Death only once or twice in playing CMBB. I definitely fall more on the side of "It ain't broken". But I don't recall ever seeing this in CMBO. So, is there something that changed in the way infantry evaluate current threats? I'm just trying to figure out the interplay of all the CMBB changes that make this happen. Is it that CMBB units are more likely to try to move? For instance, in a CMBO PBEM "Grosshau Ridge" the enemy American infantry is getting pounded by my artillery. I see his unit rotate back and forth as it's morale goes down with impact hits and back up in the lull in-between. Eventually the unit does break and runs to the rear (where it is shot down by my HMG, but hey). This was fairly common to see. But in CMBB it seems (note the use of seems -- I am not using it lightly) that infantry more often start sneaking away immediately. Then other impact hits cause them to change direction. So, I guess my question is, is this a matter of perception? CMBB units get underway faster through use of the new Sneak command whereas CMBO tried to Crawl away and never made any progress. Possible?
17. Russian crows also go "crrak-crrak" but they reverse the R.
18.
quote:
Originally posted by minmax: Of course there is the down side of cross training. I had the not so bright idea of providing our new Lt. training on a MK-19. I thought Company Gunny's heart would explode after yelling at us like that for an hour straight.

OK, I'll show my ignorance. What is a MK-19 and why did the Gunny, ah, not like you're training the LT on it?
19. I recently used a Greyhound to take out a Panther, but I think that might be the exception rather than the rule. I do find it to be a great scout and infantry support weapon, as others have mentioned. I like having a pair of them, actually. <Spoiler> For those who are curious, it was in the Le Lebroy scenario that comes with CM. The Greyhound swept along one flank and popped out of the bocage about 50 meters behind the Panther. 3 shots to the turret: 1 penetrated but did no damage, 1 ricocheted, and the final one penetrated for the kill.
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: So, not a bad idea but impractical none the less. Steve

OK, Steve. I bet you the shipping and handling for my copy of CM2 that Charles figures out how to do this before CM2 ships. Nick [This message has been edited by clcaldwell (edited 11-09-2000).]
21. Whoa, I just had your problem number two happen to me this weekend, right down to the fact that the the pbem text file seems to have been written correctly. And I just upgraded to a Voodoo3 2000 card. Never had a problem with the Monster3d that I had before that. [This message has been edited by clcaldwell (edited 11-29-99).]
22. Question for BTS: Can a bogged Sherman throw a track and become immobilized? I think that this happened to me. The only other thing I saw firing at it when it became immobilized was a MG42. Which was more likely to immobilize the tank: the terrain or the machine gun? Or was there something else that I just couldn't see? Thanks!
23. Doesn't this depend on what's visible to your tank crew? From what I've seen, the tanks don't view infantry squads as a threat, so they don't bother to go hull-down. So in this case, I too have seen my tanks cruise over the crest of a hill and down to the Hunt point. But if there is a vehicle visible, they will react and go hull-down (or move back into cover). This is probably correct behavior -- Hunt means hunt for another tank! Of course, I could be wrong. Nick
24. Whoops -- just saw that this has been addressed to death in other threads. I'll assume that BTS knows about it and that it is fixed unless they post otherwise. Also, if there is more information I can give to help solve the problem I'd be happy to do so. Nick
25. Same Here. Micron P133 running Win98. Monster3d video card with latest drivers DirectX 6 One thing that helps is to use Tab to select the unit you are trying to move, then move the mouse cursor to where you want to move it, and then finally hit the shortcut key for what you are trying to do. Even this doesn't work reliably, but it is defintely better then selecting the move order and then trying to get the line to where you want it to go. Also, for me the problem comes and goes. Sometimes it works like you would expect. Finally, the problem only occurs in views below 5. Anything where you are looking straight down at the field is fine. I think it shows the strength of the game that I've kept playing. Normally something like this would make me ditch a demo. BTW, Steve and Charles, it really is a great game! Nick
