So, back @home and returning with CM-Work 😎
Sometimes, a little break from creating/testing AI-plans is very helpful to get new motivation and to avoid the „Combat-Mission Designer‘s Burnout“ - a serious mental disease, well known to everyone who ever has created a Campaign 😉

Commanderski reacted to kohlenklau in CM KOREA 1950 MOD
Today in a few hours I go to say probably my last goodbye to a dear friend. His wife said the cancer has spread all over and he is in pain even with the fentanyl patch at 100. Del is age 90 and served during the Korean War. He never made it over to Korea but spent a couple years blowing up trees to turn Camp Stewart, Georgia into a tank training center. As a corporal, he ran the armory for his Engineering Company. A great story of his, and he has a ton, is when a young officer, butter bar O-1, was turning in a .45 and it went off INSIDE the armory. The bullet passed down through Del's pants leg. Cloth only. No blood spilled. The company commander chewed the officer out AFTER Del had his chance.
My CM Korea Mod is dedicated to Corporal Delma Ware, US Army.

Commanderski reacted to bigbluss in This is the game I've wanted for years, and I had no idea it existed.
Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello and I hope I get to play some PBEM against some of you when I get better.
I'm a huge history fan, and also a fan of Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front, but it never quite did what I wanted. Games like Gates of Hell: Ostfront, looked gorgeous but were tactically shallow experiences that in no way represented the battles I've read about in books. The closest I could get was warg ames like War in the East 2, which still were fairly abstract.
I found out about these games a few weeks ago and...Well, with the Steam sale I've purchased CM:BS, CM:SF2 and CM:BN, plus all the respective DLCs. I've been wanting games like these for years. Can't wait to start building the hours. I've clocked up 30 hours in two weeks which, for me as a 37 year old with a job and girlfriend, is fairly extreme.
Cannot believe I didn't try them sooner.
Nice to meet you all

Andriy Biletskyi, first commander of "Azov" and now one of commanders of 3rd assault brigade claimed today 1st mech.battalion of his brigade wiped out leftovers of 3rd motor-rifle battalion of 57th motor-rifle brigade and eliminated enemy bridgehead on western bank of canal on south from Bakhmut near Kurdiumivka village. Enemy losses about 30 KIA, 50 WIA, 10 POWs, rest of battalion actually was completely disorganized and no more present as capable military force.

I realize many of the players are drunk on power, but if I was anyone of consequence in the middle of this and they wanted me to resign, I'd say, "Sure, absolutely. No problem. You won't hear from me again. I'll be playing chess in the park."
Bail out while you can.

Just in time for the anniversary of „Operation Bagration“ here comes a short update for the WIP:
@Phantom Captain is still fighting bravely through the „Tiger-Trail“ Campaign and until now it seems as if the missions work fine 🙏🏻
The „Into Hell“Campaign also runs playtesting.
“Five Bridges“ and „Partisans Land“ will start with further test rounds soon.
For the „Our Father“ Campaign I am creating 4 maps of the town of Mogilew, based on historical maps/pictures - what proves to be more time consuming than expected because most of the city lay in ruins 😱
So, what‘s the next step?
In 3-4 weeks I will need a playtester for a special and huge Mission which is a defense action against a main Soviet Breakthrough Attempt on 22nd June 1944.
That for now. More news to come.
Regards
Mr.X

Commanderski reacted to danfrodo in Combat Mission Red Thunder Battlepack 1 video overview
I'm always terrified of what sneaky tricks General GeorgeMC-ovich has in store, but decided this was best path forward. I've got first contact and realized I didn't put a TRP in this particular spot, but STUGs & 75mm halftracks should clean this up pretty quickly. The infantry are assaulting also. OF course I'm caught right at the traffic bottleneck coming out the woods. Next turn I'll get spread out & get a lot of fire onto the enemy. Distance is good for the halftrack MG gunners to lay down fire without getting killed, at least not yet.

A wee something I put together.
This video showcases content from the Combat Mission Red Thunder Battlepack 1 released by Battlefront.com.
It's a brief overview of each scenario, what it's about and the main intent; it also covers the campaigns (including a brief summary of the main campaign branches).
There are NO spoilers in the video chapters.

For anybody else perplexed by the lack of "Red Thunder" + "v2.13" in https://www.battlefront.com/patches: "CMRT Engine 4" is the right link: it does show v213 as the patch number.

Commanderski reacted to CarlXII in Carls maps
Hello...
I have started a little map project. My goal is to design a few quite large maps that still retain a fairly high level of detail. These maps will not be designed
as mastermaps ment to be split up into smaller sections but rather to be used as a 'full size' map but you as a potential user are offcourse free to cut and tweak the map in any way you please.
I will not be spewing these maps out in any great amont. I will be working on these at a relaxed pace and my current goal for the rest of 2023 is to release two more maps after this first one if you guys feel that this initial one is up to snuff.
This first map is for CMBN. Centered around a village along the Douve river, south west of Valognes. Mapsize is 2700 X 1900 meters. I have taken some liberties with the actual village but the terrain is very close to current day google earth (elevations are fictional).
I'm planning on making one more CMBN-map and then a CMRT-map this year. Dependant on RL situations i might be able to do a third one. We shall see. Two additional maps after this one should be doable though.
On this first map (Normandy) i have 'tweaked' the low boccage hedges somewhat. At various locations i have replaced a part of the low boccage with regular hedge tiles to allow for vehicles to cut through. This will come with the risk of bogging down though as the terrain tile
at these locations are be mud ground. See pictures below. I have also included a fair amount of boccage gaps to allow for infantry movement.
These maps will have no units, no set-up zones or no objectives and no AI plans....They can be added as desired. Hopefully these maps will provide nice playgrounds for H2H gameplay or as a starting map for anyone wanting to try and design a scenario using them.
This first normandy map has been made using the majority of 37mm brilliant 'all in one' mod pack for CMBN. Hopefully the map will still look decent even if you are playing with stock graphics or use different mods.
Enjoy !

Commanderski reacted to Zveroboy1 in Baltic Mini Map Pack
--------------------------------------------------------------
Mini map pack for Battlefront Combat Mission Red Thunder
--------------------------------------------------------------
Description:
Three maps in Estonia one in Latvia.
All the maps in this mini pack are based on google earth satellite images, photos and also street view when available, not historical maps. So obviously these locations were not identical during ww2. I however tried to downgrade the type of roads when I thought it made sense, on rare occasions removed a couple of houses or farms here and there but for the most part they're as accurate as I could make them.
Some have attack or meeting engagement setups, some are raw (no deployment zones or objectives). The latter will require a little bit of work to be playable.
I tried as much as possible to frame the maps so they're versatile and can be used in various ways: both for meeting engagements and attacks. But there are also usually several possible setups that you could use i.e different directions for the attack with potential objectives and road in all cardinal directions. There is often not just one single way to play them.
It should be noted that most of these maps, except Talvikese which is fairly open with rural terrain, are basically dirt roads going through forests, marshy ground and lakes. So it can be very easy if played as attacks or assaults to block the roads with anti tank mines depending on the deployment zones. So you could just have infantry battles, have an agreement with your opponent to limit the usage of mines or even modify the terrain a little bit by replacing marshy ground with mud or something else where needed. Or just play them as is. It is up to you.
Feel free to use them for whatever you want. Simply credit me and provide a link to this thread.
The maps:
1/ Estonia - Kapera (raw map)
size: 1408 X 1072m
type: forest/rural
60km west of Pskov
google earth coordinates: 57°46'12.40"N 27°19'33.80"E
2/ Estonia - Kahri Koorvere road
size: 1168 X 1184m
type: forest and lakes
35km south east of Tartu
google earth coordinates: 58° 5'19.20"N 26°58'28.02"E
Includes both a raw map and a version with a red attack setup. The map with the attack setup is slightly cropped on the northern edge for gameplay reasons so I decided to also include the original one.
3/ Estonia - Talvikese (ME)
size: 2688 X 2832m
type: open/rural
20km south of Tartu
google earth coordinates: 58°12'3.76"N 26°49'7.02"E
4/ Latvia - Courland - Lemzere (raw map)
size: 1776 X 1008m
type: marshy forest and lake
55km south west of Tukums
google earth coordinates: 56°36'15.63"N 22°34'36.97"E
