  1. Downloaded Update - Ran Activation's - Opened Game - Reset Blind Command Keys and Launched Scenario in less than 15 minutes. I think I'm getting the hang of this upgrade stuff.
  2. ASL is a gateway drug to CM I played SL and ASL for years. I have many modules, many boards many nationalities and the special trays to put them all in. And all gathering dust in the attic. I have to admit that video was giving me the fever to dust it all off and break it our again. There is something, how to say it, rewarding perhaps, about being able to feel and see the counters and all their numerical attack and defense strengths and weaknesses. I liked the tank counters showing the strength of each of three machine guns, hull, coaxial and AA, You saw the speed and knew the distance it could travel and the speed of the rotation of the turret and the chances of breakdown using excessive movement. (My avatar at the Band of Brothers is the Sherman counter.) Then there was the anticipation from both sides as you heard the click of the dice as you shook them in your hand, And of course their was the agony of rolling a 12 and the ecstasy of rolling a snake eyes. Or how about the suspense of pulling out the thread and checking the LOS seeing if you really could see hex to hex or did you waist a first fire. It truly has a completely different feel to ASL from CM. Of course their was the bloody rule book. And you can't play by email. All that being said all I play now is CM
  3. With the goo-goo -googley eyes? Snuffy Smith may be envious though.
  4. Just wondering, if there are multiple targets what determines which target the AI will fire at? Is it the unit it will be the most effective against? Closest? Largest threat?
  5. The expression "Cold Turkey" first appeared in the Daily Colonist in British Columbia in 1921: "Perhaps the most pitiful figures who have appeared before Dr. Carleton Simon ... are those who voluntarily surrender themselves. When they go before him that are given what is called the 'cold turkey' treatment." But why turkey, and why cold? The most popular theory was repeated by the San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen in 1978: "It derives from the hideous combination of goosepimples [sic] and what William Burroughs calls 'the cold burn' that addicts suffer as they kick the habit." In Cop Speak: The Lingo of Law Enforcement and Crime, Tom Philbin recites a second theory, that "the term may derive from the cold, clammy feel of the skin during withdrawal, like a turkey that has been refrigerated." The problem with both of these theories is that they ignore the uses of cold turkey before its application to drug addiction. In a cartoon that appeared in newspapers on November 12, 1920, ace slangman Thomas "TAD" Dorgan used cold turkey this way – "Now tell me on the square – can I get by with this for the wedding – don't string me – tell me cold turkey." The editors of the Historical Dictionary of American Slang have found It may be that the original cold turkey was a combination of cold ("straightforward, matter-of-fact") and the earlier talk turkey, which dates back to the early 1800s and refers to speaking plainly. Regardless of its ultimate origins, the phrase manages to vividly capture the initial dread and discomfort that comes from immediately quitting something that's addictive, from drugs to dating - Merriam-Webster
  6. Holy smokes, the BMW went for a world record $180K! What does plus premium mean? You pay for the bike and then pay a premium to the auction house?
  7. For that matter was there talk of updating the website? I think there was talk of refurbishing the repository but I think now they are working with Bootie over at the FGM and using the new Scenario Depot, Proving Grounds and CMMODS III instead.
  8. Well, to be more specific, you can sign up for one. Whether there is one right now is debatable. (Maybe Newsletters is a twentieth century technology and is obsolete ) If you go to "Comms" at the top of the homepage there's where you can sign up for a newsletter, view the Facebook page (updated last April) or go to youtube (updated 2 years ago??)
  9. Has anyone heard from Steve or anyone else at Battlefront as to where development(s) are or any talk of future games or modules? I saw a locked thread from last April discussing the future (it was taken over by idiot trolls). Anybody receive a newsletter recently? Of course I am only looking in the CM2 WWII threads so BF may be popping up in other threads. It's awfully quiet......too quiet.
  10. Ted

Why don't you take it over to the Few Good Men. I'll bet you could find 16 there.

  11. I brought this subject up probably well over a year ago when the Oculus was very early in the proto stage. I seemed to be greeted with many negative attitudes how CM couldn't be played in VR. Frankly, I heartily disagree.
  12. A bit like the CM1 Alpha game
  13. Well, yes there that Well, yes, there's that. I've just tried a test and succesfully moved 4 squads of engineers and theiir HQ's through a cleared minefield with no casualties. I guess time pressures will dictate which tactics to use. Sometimes. I guess, you just have to roll the dice.
  14. Kevin, good link thanks. I’m surprised there’s nothing in the manual that says marked mine signs turn from red to yellow. Erwin, Thanks for the advice. My thought is moving slow (crawling) will exhaust troops by the time they get through the field. Have you found this? Finally, from your link Kevin the only answer to my question about does it matter if it’s a squad or team finding /marking was this: “The more eyes in an engineer team the easier to spot mines. (5 man team finds mines easier than a 2 man team) I think.” To know one way or another (it’s not in the manual) would be a big help and would change the tactics I would use with minefields. Perhaps someone at Battlefront would know?
  15. I’m playing a scenario that the briefing says watch out for minefields. I used the “move” command for my Engineers and walk forward in to where I would think the minefields are. Red “Minefield” markers pop up. I use the “Mark Mines” command. In one turn (1 minute) or so the Red minefield markers turned Yellow (?) (There’s nothing in the manual that points this out) A couple of questions then…. Does the red minefield turning yellow indicate a “Marked Mine” area and is now safe – more or less – to move through if using the “Move” command? Does the speed of discovering and marking an area dependent on the amount of engineers doing the marking, i.e. does a full platoon mark an area faster than a team?
  16. Great book. I am soon going to go get that out of the library. I'm a fan of Cavanagh's works One of my favorite passages that I have read from this article and also is brought up in other books about the Ardennes: "Near Mildren’s CP in Krinkelt, a Tiger tank was wreaking havoc. Lieutenant Jesse Morrow, Mildren’s communications officer, watched as the 60-ton monster rolled over a jeep, flattening it. Grabbing a bazooka that had been flung from the jeep, Morrow aimed at the rear of the tank and fired. The tank rolled on a little, out of control, then careened into a house. A crewman stuck his head out of the top hatch, and Morrow fired his .45 at him until it was empty. Just then a second jeep came toward the young officer. Spotting another bazooka in the vehicle, he stopped the driver, grabbed the weapon and leaped around the corner, ready to fire. Then he froze. He was looking directly down the tank’s cannon. The tank’s gunner fired, and the concussion from the shell exploding behind him knocked Morrow unconscious. Coming to, Morrow saw the tank was a smoking hulk. He crawled back to the CP where Mildren, who had watched the entire scene unfold, could not believe that Morrow was still alive–alive, but not unscathed. The 88mm round from the Tiger had grazed Morrow’s neck as it passed, and he was bleeding profusely. Mildren ordered him evacuated immediately to a field hospital. As he was being loaded into an ambulance, Morrow noticed three badly burned German prisoners. A medic told him, "These guys were in the tank that shot you. A GI threw a thermite bomb down the turret." Smiling at the young American officer, one of the Germans asked, "Do you have a cigarette? Cigarette?" Morrow tried to get up. But with his fingers still clawing at the German, he dropped back, unconscious." I'm psyched to get there during the tour.
  17. Perfect! I'll have to remember that, not to name children but perhaps my next two pets I'm heading out to the Ardennes to tour for 6 days in early May and have been doing a lot research lately. Rocherath and Krinkelt, what an amazing battle. I have stacks of old WWII magazines and came across this article from 1998: http://www.historynet.com/winter-fury-near-elsenborn-ridge-november-98-world-war-ii-feature.htm (the magazine has better pictures)
  18. Bil, is there any method to increase the chances of removing the bogged status such as slow move or reverse or some other command?
  19. But how can you lay fire in to an area that you do not have a LOS too i.e. the open area on the other side of the woods? Or do you? (it looks like the woods are in the way)
  20. Hi Bil, great AAR by the way. I always learn something from them. You talk here of interdiction on the other side of the rectangular woods. Is this a new command where you can area fire in to someplace you do not have a LOS? Also, what do use for the screen capture? (And a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!)
  21. Thanks Phil! Had issues upgrading to Win10 and lost everything. CM Helper makes email games infinitely easier. Thanks again,
  22. Where can I find CM Helper? I up graded to Win 10 and my CM Helper 1.5 stopped working.
  23. Well, I'm glad somebody else knows about it and has tried it. If Bootie tried it and it didn't work it would have been awfully embarrassing Bootie, how do you get that circle around the mouse pointer and have it highlight when you click? Is that a mod or do you set it up with in windows? Also, would you show the damage on the Shermans, I'm curious to see how the mine field effected the tracks and the panzerfaust hit if that effected the gun/radio/optics. Thanks!
