  1. Thank you so much guys. I'm grateful for the volume of info you have given me. I'll start plowing through that now and am sure I will get it sorted out.
  2. Hi, I see these threads are old, so I hope someone official will see this. I have been a Combat Mission fan since the inception of the game, and own all the titles. Some time ago I bought CMSF (from Paradox; what was I thinking?) and of course it's been a headache ever since. I have it patched to v 1.20. MY MAIN PROBLEM: I see now that there is a Battlefront patch (v 121) which returns it to legitimate status. I would like to get this patch but can't access the battlefront.com site. Although my Username and Password still work here (the forum) I am told that they are 'invalid' at Battlefront.com. This also means I can't access the 'helpdesk.' What gives? Do I need two separate identities to access Battlefront? OTHER: In reading the instructions a couple of other question have come up. I have had CMSF on my computer (actually the 2nd one) for so long I can't remember the installation. I usually keep pretty complete records but I have no Key Code (and don't remember one). Do I need such a thing? and I don't remember anything about eLicensing. Is this stored on my computer somewhere? Do I need it for anything? How do I 'unlicense'? And... if I buy a module (say Marines) will it install with this game, and would I then not need the v121 patch. Just checking. well, thanks for taking the time to read this, and cheers..... Tom M. (Tobruk)
  3. Seems like this might be a good thread to ask you a question, Moon. On the 'announcement' page you mention an "optional terrain pack" by Kwazydog, but I can't find it anywhere. Has it been superceded (perhaps by v1.11), or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks.......
  4. OK, just for the record: I reinstalled CMSF Paradox v1.0, then from the Paradox website I got the v1.02 patch and installed that, then installed v1.10 and then v1.11 from Battlefront. I now have the training campaign (which apparently I needed because I'm getting my ass kicked) and everything seems to be running fine. I still don't have an intro movie (and maybe there isn't one, although it seems to me I saw one someplace). I'm going to bed.
  5. Thanks Moon. I found a link to v1.01 only through happenstance and a a trip to google. It, as you probably know, is not listed on the Battlefront patch page. It might be helpful to put a note and a link there, eh? Furthermore Paradox only lists a v1.02 patch. I also realized that I get no 'intro movie' in the game. I wonder if the patch will restore that? Anyway, I'm off to uninstall and reinstall. wish me luck. And thanks again. ps. I just noticed that my years of posts are gone and I'm back to a junior member again. Ah, a chance to start over
  6. Loki, I have the same question about the training campaign, but the link you give seems broken. Could you tell us what the story is on the missing campaign or give a new link? thanks...
  7. That's interesting, Bernmeister. I thought it might be the Vista, but if you're running XP then that's not it. Also, I've been running dx10, but I also 'added' the new release which, as I understand it, is supposed to contain elements of 9.0c, and both are supposed to run ok together. Unfortunately there is no visual evidance that it 'installed' so.... I am able to run some old games so apparently the dx thing worked. However, I did have to load a library file, which MS left out of dx10 (d3drm.dll) before some of them would run right. I did have some graphics corruption on some of them (not CMBO) but found that inserting a 'noCD crack' solved all those problems; so it's more likely the copy protection and not the Graphics card was the problem, I would think. I haven't tried that with CMBO, but I might. The thing about CMBO is that it seems to run perfectly except for this 'blank boxes' problem. I was hoping that someone from Battlefront might know what's happening, but I doubt they even read this forum anymore. Let me know how you make out. Maybe we can find a solution Asus P5E3 Premium, Q9550 Yorkfield, 4G Corsair DDR3, Palit Radeon HD 4870, Vista64
  8. Hi all, Just built a new comp with Vista 64 and Palit Radeon 4870 and wanted to reload my favorite in the CM series- CMBO. It loads and plays ok, but I have this one odd problem: any typed info on the play screen is blank (jpeg attached). I can't read the 'hotkeys' or the unit stats, etc. All the mission briefings work ok and the typed briefing appaear ok. I've tried running in 'Admin' and in every OS 'config.' no luck. Anyone with a clue as to what's happening? Would be grateful... Thanks...
  9. Uhh...what if nobody picks the number? Although I'm sure there will be at least 10,000 people entering Anyway, I choose 2690.
  10. wait! I should have added this link, which contains links to descriptions and images of Euphorbs so Michael D can draw one for the CMAK www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Euphorbiaceae/Euphorbia.html Cheers,
  11. First of all- Michael D; if I could draw my screen name would be Wyatt Earp LOL. Second Michael E; you are correct, they are feral, or transplants. Much of the world (eg: Africa and Australia) spend a great deal trying to erradicate these foreign plants. Here are a couple of news flashes(if my HTML works, which is always an iffy thing for me ): www.enn.com/news/wire-stories/2002/07/07092002/reu_47763.asp http://fred.csir.co.za/plants/global/continen/africa/safrica/biocontr/agenttbl.htm] It might help you to know that the 'prickly pear' is one of a widespread genus: Opuntia. A note; I have returned to the CM fora from a sebbatical during which I perused many other game fora. What a relief. I had forgotten that almost everyone here is either completely insane or profoundly knowledgeable, and it's impossible to tell the difference Great to be back...
  12. Hmmm... there are no 'cacti' in that hemisphere; only 'euphorbs,' which occupy the same ecological niche. Cacti are indigenous to the Americas. Euphorbs include things like the "crown-of-thorns" plant etc; sometimes more leafy than cacti, burt generally with the same moisture preserving construction as cacti.
  13. Yeah. What they said. And besides, CMAK will probably have some interesting places. Like...ummmm... Tobruk.
  14. Thanks 308. Guess I had better get my order in now; the sooner I have the game the sooner I can get my bell rung by Lindan. lol -T
  15. Hi to all my old friends, I'm back after a long absense. Can anybody tell me what version of the game is now shipping? Or, how long before v1.02 ships? Thanks, -T
  16. Duh Well, guys, the pref file registered ok, and the resolution was ok, and I don't think it was causing the problem (Of course I don't have much confidence in what I think anymore). What you suggested, Demoss, was the obvious solution and has worked. I didn't try it before because I assumed that changing the monitor settings would effect all my other programs. But it doesn't, and that really mystifies me. Is there some way that the program 'remembers' the monitor settings? Anyway, thanks to both of you for your input. I guess I'll try to load the CMBB demo now, and see if that works  -Tom
  17. Hello Matt (or someone), I just got a new computer and have installed CMBO. I am amazed at the graphics I was missing  and everything seems to work fine except for one thing. The screen is skewed to the left about two or three inches. For instance when I call up the black vehicle info screen, I can only see the right half of it, the rest is buried off screen,. The right margin of the play screen is a verticle black bar. Oddly enough, this same thing happened with the CMBB demo when I loaded it on an entirely different computer at work, so I suspect something about the game itself. I didn't have this problem, however, with an old IBM computer. Latest drivers etc. Do you have any insight into this? Can it be fixed? BTW- I don't have prob with any other application. My specs: P4 2.53GB, i850E Asus P4T533-C mobo 512 MB Rambus Geforce4 ti4600, Leadtek- driver v3087 Audigy X Gamer Cheers, -Tom [ October 22, 2002, 08:49 PM: Message edited by: TOBRUK ]
  18. Hello all, I got a new computer and am trying to install CMBO. It's been about 3 years since I first installed it so I don't know if I dealt with these problems before or not, but I need someone's help, please. 1. When I do a new install, Installshield comes up and installs all the files. Unfortunately it doesn't give me an opportunity to choose where to install the directory or any files. As a consequence I find the files scattered throughout the 'Windows' folder. Initial experiments indicate that the game plays ok, but I cannot install the patch (it can't find the cmbo directory!) In addtition I remember that cmbo was in it's own folder in Program Files on my old computer so I'm a little concerned that something is wrong. I would appreciate any insight into this. EDIT---OK, PLEASE DISREGARD THIS ISSUE; I READ THE SUPPORT GUIDES WHICH INSTRUCT ON MANUAL INSTALL- THE GAME RUNS WELL NOW, EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWOING TWO ITEMS: 2. After removal cmbo leaves a 2.70MB entry in the add/remove window of the Contol Panel, which cannot be removed. I suspect that this is the install shield, and it may be corrupted. Is there any way to remove this? 3. The play screen is skewed off to the left about two inches, instead of being centered. I also noticed this when I loaded the cmbb demo onto another computer at work. Anybody else have this prob? Can it be corrected? Thanks for listening, and I would be grateful for any help on these matters. My system: P4 2.53Mhz 512 MB RAM Geforce 4 ti4600 Audigy X Gamer Win XP Cheers, -Tom PS: hello to all my friends I haven't spoken to in a long while. Will be in touch with you soon  [ October 20, 2002, 11:57 PM: Message edited by: TOBRUK ]
  19. Your experience is not unique, Thomas; I have EXACTLY the same problem. I get the control bar at the bottom but the 'loading graphics' sign remains superimposed over a black screen. I have 2 additional issues: the read me file won't open, and the gamma is automatically set to high. To top it off, there appears to be no way to uninstall the demo; it doesn't appear in the add/remove window in the control panel, and it has no uninstall feature of it's own. Can I just delete the CMBB file or are there registry entries? I know the download was good because I did it at work and it worked ok at a lower res on the Gateway at work. (I've tried low res on my machine, too, but still gert the same problems.) I hope BTS or some other good folks will address these problems. Also, to the other people that I haven't written to in a while, and who are sure to read this (like you, Oli!) please forgive me for not writing: I'll get to it as soon as I have a relaxed minute oh, BTW, my machine: IBM 475 Mhz AMD-K6 3D 128 ram SiS 530 video Ess-Solo 1 sound DirectX 8.1 Win 98 Thanks to all, and cheers, -Tom
  20. Hi Oli, That's quite a thought provoking find; it sure gives us pause to think about the meaning of Christmas. Thanks for posting it. I've tried to reach you through 3 different email addresses. If you don't get one of them email me, ok? And Have a Very Merry Christmas, my friend!!! -Tom
  21. Wishing Good Luck to all those guys going into action in the assault which is starting this morning. And a big Thanks to all the countries who support us and and are participating. -T
  22. OK, I finally found it- so anybody can find it. ...now if I could just remember my password...
