  1. I believe you can expect frame rate to drop when you activate Vsynch. It is my understanding that you are locking the program to the refresh rate of your monitor.
  2. I have decided because of the articles and MantaRay's fine point I have decided to pick up the game Dan.
  3. Yeah I noticed the feeding frenzy. Funny I stop posting in the forums a long time ago due to attitudes of people, but after reading the reviews of DiF, I decided to stop by and when I saw a need that I could fill, I couldn't resist. LOL. Now I am deciding whether or not to pick up DiF.
  4. Just making sure the playing field is even... It was 4.5 out of 5... LOL
  5. In the December 2005 issue, CGW gave DiF 4.5 stars and Editor's choice. They also used the game in a section called Tom v. Bruce where these two guys play a game against each other and describe their experience while attempting to share their wit. The wit part usually falls flat on their face, but the exposure for the game is pretty cool.
  6. Now in defense of Computer Gaming World, they reveiwed Down in Flames, giving it Editor's Choice and 4 1/2 stars. They even featured the game in their Tom vs Bruce section, where Tom and Bruce play a game against each other and kind of do an AAR with attempted humor. The whole Tom vs. Bruce section of the magazine is normally junk though. Pretty good exposure for DiF.
  7. It is not CGW but Computer Games that the article is in btw. A decent little article it is.
  8. <Rolls up a newspaper and smacks the wolf on the nose> Snooty it is. I am afraid you pulling out the 10,000+ membership pointed it out. Yes, this is my original user setup. Enjoy the membership number. I made some big assumptions, and the quality control is probably way off; but there is no way passing 5MB PBEM files can be acceptable for a smaller scenario. It doesn't matter if I am a "Junior Member" or and Old Tymer. The point stands on its own. Anyways, I understand why a lot of my friends no longer post around here, and why I normally lurk. Ron aka Catgh PS. The more I look into it, the 3-5MB files I am seeing only seem to be happening with this one scenario. Perhaps it is just a fluke with this one scenario. LT - I am wrong about a billion things in my life. The point is well taken. Spending this much time here on this topic is probably my biggest mistake lately, next to letting my wife go on another shopping spree in Denver. 9. I got the white screen after doing a new install of Combat Mission right after I upgraded my drivers for my Geforce. In the end I had to down grade my drivers install Combat Mission and then upgraded to the new drivers for the video card. I did have my fog table emulation set the whole time.
  10. I would suggest (if possible given time and resources) that another map type be added to the QB map generator. I would like to see a river/stream crossing map option.
  11. I don't have time to do a search, and I bet that this has been reported already, but just in case... The other night I was playing a game with someone and selected a sighted piece of armor. When I did it revealed the ambush point for that enemy armor. This also happened when a friend of mine selected my machine gun bunker and he was able to determine my ambush point. Thanks.
  12. Joe, I must take issue with your assumption that BTS came up with the WEGO system. I believe TacOps was using this system before CM. Just a being a little nick-picky.
  13. I believe PC Gamer just game it a 91% and an editor' choice award. Bang you on the lack of TCP/IP and the graphics.
  14. Trooper, IRC I believe each reinforcement slot comes with a "flag" to designate where they come in on. In the preview map mode in the map builder is where you go to located teh reinforcement entry flags.
  15. I would like to see a way to assign threat areas/coverage areas for armour so that they have their turrets "pre-positioned" in a general direction. Mainly would be used for armor on the move in formations. (ie. A column of tanks moving; first tank turret forward looking for threats, second tank-turret to the left, third tank-turret to the right, fourth tank-turret to the rear. So if a target popped up in back the rear tank won't have to traverse 180 degrees to get a shot off.)
  16. I have been playing around with air power. It is handled really well. I watched a as a plane attacked a Panther then came around again and wiped-out a Sherman and strafed a column of men. In another game, a Hellcat took out a Panther just before the plane made its run. Well the plane still hit the Panther killing the just bailed out crew. Just today I watched a plane drop two 500lb bombs on an abandon Pzr IVJ. The fact that the pilots make mistakes really makes airpower a dangerous thing. The shadow on the ground also is a magically touch. I think brings the sense of doom and dread better than if they actually modeled a plane.
  17. I have three of them hanging in my office and I went with just a basic black mat to keep with the black and white theme of the prints. I was considering a grey/stone mat, but it was a little more expensive. [This message has been edited by Ron Meier (edited 06-15-2000).]
  18. I am interested if BTS might discuss the algorythm they are using to determine a "hit" if the hull down is an all or nothing affair. Are you modeling the shot from the gun (introducing some errors in the "aim")and tracking its trajectory and calculating the impact of the round, or is the a "an elite gunner has an X% to hit a fully exposed target; add/subtract factors for hull-down, morale, target profile. It doesn't matter what system they are using, the illusion of battle is intact IMHO. [This message has been edited by Ron Meier (edited 04-17-2000).]
  19. Sorry I was vague. I am interested in seeing/hearing about the "campaign" system. I realize the the "campaing' is actually more of an "operational" level system. You are doing a great job btw, of course you already know that. Thanks. PS. I am a little slow, just read your link to the Boots & Tracks. Thanks again [This message has been edited by Ron Meier (edited 03-26-2000).]
  20. I have seen enough of the "battle shots" (Heretic I know, burn me at the stake). I haven't heard/seen how the operational level of the game is coming? I beginning to wonder if it has fallen to the wayside.
  21. A couple of things.. First I had the PBEM lockup problem until I upgraded to DirectX 7.0... I have talk to others and this has seemed to help them too.. Sound... I had great sound until I upgraded my drivers to the newer reference drivers (Diamond MX330)... The reason I did so was for Panzer Elite... It had a problem with Diamond's drivers and recommended upgrading to Aureal's reference drivers until Diamond release newer drivers... Well the sound in CM went into the toilet, until I saw someone mentioned the Hardware Acceleration slider in the Multimedia proporties... Once I disable hardware accleration for sound, CM sounds great again...
  22. You need to expand the hull down command to be... "Seek hull-down position to facing this area (point)"... or all your tanks will be looking for craters...
