  1. And this will undoubtedly show how little I know about the construction and maintenance of tanks and armoured vehicles. Ok, we've all seen pictures of heavy tanks like the Tiger and Panther with potmarks from the impact of shells that have riccocheted off them during battle. Now, here's my question: What happened after those battles? Did they leave them like that until they finally got a breakdown or damage and had to go to repairs? Did they patch it up with something? Did they replace the entire armour part? Wouldn't this degrade the armour for the next battle if they didn't replace that armour piece? And did they replace the entire tank perhaps? What happened with tanks that had survived several impacts? I'm curious.
  2. Heh, yeah, I've been out of work on and off alot. Haven't had an actual steady job my entire life really. So if a CM release drops at a bad time for me, I'll have to skip it.
  3. Well, as long as Oddball can afford the game Although, with CMRT, I did have a benefactor who bought the game for me since I couldn't afford it. I'll be eternally grateful for that.
  4. Whoa! Those are WAY higher than the ones in War Thunder. Wonder what the difference is there. Maby they only count the penetration of the blast and not the shell since the penetration stays the same at all distances?
  5. Hmm... so a 75mm shell would penetrate about 37mm of armour? That sounds a bit high. Wouldn't that penetrate pretty much mean that a sherman firing an HE shell into the side of a Pz IV would penetrate it with near 100% guarantee?
  6. The screams are not from CoH. Well, maby some of the long moaning ones since those are from waclaws mod. But my patented (not really) high-pitched screams are from some ww2 mod for operation flashpoint back in the day (yes, they're over 10 years old. Hence no credit to whomever made them in the readme file, since I simply don't know). Anyway, they're easily removed if you don't have the stoumache for it Yeah hehe, I really was fooling myself with that name I really thought I would be able to just release that mod and then never touch the sounds again...
  7. Just a video showing off the new sounds for the 50 cals in Combat Mission in my upcoming soundmod.
  8. It looks that way since the 1.02 patch notes are pretty much the same as 1.01.
  9. Well, it's hard to get information on the penetration values of HE, but I've looked at War Thunder Ground Forces (not the most realistic game, I know, but they do have historical values on penetration and armour for the most part) and the L43 and L48 guns have a pen of 14mm IIRC and the L70 has a measly 6mm (due to the low velocity of its HE shells no doubt, a measly 570m/s). So the HE shells wouldn't actually penetrate the hull with those numbers, but on the other hand, if the shell has 14mm of penetration and the hull is 15mm, wouldn't that mean that, at least at the point of impact, the effective armour would only be 1mm? This is all a bit too complicated for me. I do know that in CMRT, the L48 gun will penetrate the side armour of the SU-76 using HE shells. So maby BFC could shed some light on the penetration vaules of HE shells?
  10. I've been thinking about this a bit. 15mm is far from "thin" when it comes to the ability to stand up to small arms fire and explosions. Now, a 75mm HE shell fired from pretty much any german tank would have the same amount of explosives in it right? So would that shell do much damage to a tank with 15mm of armour like the SU76 for example? And I mean a direct hit, not just explosions around it. A direct hit right into the side of an SU-76 which has 15mm of armour IIRC, would that reliably kill it? Or any other tank with 15mm of armour for that matter. The reason I'm asking is because I've been having some discussions on another forum about the pzgr39's effectiveness against tanks with 15mm of armour since its fuse sensetivity is 25-30mm so it won't reliably go off when hitting a tank like that. So in effect, it will be overpenetrating and largely acting like an APCR shell. So would HE be more effective in that case?
  11. There is no in-game sound for turret turning AFAIK, so there's no sound to mod. We can't add sounds for things that aren't modeled in the game. :/
  12. I've only had it happen when using soundmods. BUT, like I said, it's not constant. My theory is that the soundmods have larger sound files which puts a larger strain on the game and the vehicle sounds are the first to go so to speak. I'm certainly no expert on how the game handles sounds, but since I made most of my sounds shorter (1.1 second long for weapons on average) by removing the echo and using the in-game echos to get that effect, I've noticed a significant decrease in instances where the engine sounds have been muffled.
  13. Yeah, that's a problem with the game engine I think. Sometimes my vehicle sounds (both idle and movement, but mostly movement) are very muted and sometimes they're not. Glad to hear it Feel free to release your individual collection as a mod as well. Might fit someone elses tastes better and save them the trouble of picking. Heck, it might influence me to change my own mix
  14. Glad to hear it I prefer people mixing and matching to their own perfection actually
  15. I felt the same way about my soundmods for a while. Waclaw was getting tons of praise for his soundmods while mine were pretty much passing by unnoticed it seemed. I was getting around half the number of downloads as him, sometimes less. It kinda felt like it was pointless to release the mod. But then I thought to myself that I might as well release it since I'm really just making it for myself and not for the community. Releasing it was just a gift for the ones who actually download my soundmods. And I strongly feel that is how everyone should view their modding and scenario designing. Don't do it for anyone else than yourself. I mean, sure, it's great to get feedback, but in the end you are making the scenarios for your own pleasure. Releasing them is just icing on the cake. Don't get me wrong here. I don't view Waclaw as a rival or anything, I'm just saying his mods got alot of praise while mine got almost no notice in comparison. That kind of stuff can easily get a modder to stop releasing mods. So yeah, it IS important to provide feedback on everything released, not just scenarios and campaigns, but mods too. Because it's always nice to feel appreciated. But don't release stuff for the sake of others, do it for yourself. If you are satisfied with the scenario/campaign/mod and release it but get no feedback, just assume everyone who downloaded it is satisfied too, since people usually only speak up if they are dissatisfied with something.
  16. Impressive story on Yang Kyoungjong... But I still prefer the great Swedish adventurer Ivor Thord-Gray who fougt in 13 different wars, serving in many nations. Never got around to reading it and now I can't find it... Might have given it away or just packed it away somewhere last time I moved.
  17. Hmm... gonna have to update my soundmod (again...) since I noticed the sound I had for the DshK isn't really working well. Might have to mess about a bit.
  18. Well... still having trouble with my mic. I'll be spending this weekend trying to sort it out. When (well... if) I sort it out, I'll be making a video of Char n Char alike and uploading it to youtube.
  19. Well, I'll be running one test soon, with a quick battle and my poorly set up mic. If it works, I'll be uploading the proper game tonight. If it doesn't... well... you lot don't want to hear me yapping on a bad mic with lots of reverb and echos, now do you?
  20. But they're really not that special any more. Russia has been beefing up their troops alot lately and one place they've focused on in particular is the snipers. They even imported a couple of sniper rifles (Steyrs IIRC) to fill up the ranks. Sure, the vintores and the like are special. But there are plenty of "plain old" sniper rifles in service other than the SVD.
  21. Hehehe well, I'll check out if there are any SPW 305's in the scenario. If there are, I'll wait for Aris' mod for them. If there's not, I'll be playing tomorrow. EDIT: Hmm... there IS one... (oh and they're SPW 304, not 305) We'll see if I do it tomorrow or not. It largely depends on if I get my mic to work properly (right now it's really "boxy" when I record)
