1. I can't believe this! 90-something% of this debate has been conducted in a reasonable manner. There's been almost no name-calling out of spite. What online forum can boast of this? Marko;
2. Peter, those Kiwis played like headless chooks. Oh well, now you can spend *all* of your time on CM. Marko;
3. All of these "big problem" are related to preserving the frame rate. The improvements you suggest are probably somewhere in a future incantation of CM. Marko;
4. Just happened (for the first time) to me 10 minutes ago. So that's the second time I thought I hallucinated in 2 days. The first time was last night when I watched France beat New Zealand in the rugby world cup semi-final. Marko;
5. Just on those Olypmics. It'll be early Spring for us and late Summer/early Fall for you Yanks (*). Max temperatures at that time are around 20 deg C (68 deg F). But you might get the odd day when it hits 30 deg C (86 deg F) or 15 deg C (59 deg F). Don't be surprised if it rains for a week: early Spring is notorious for that. Oh, and the traffic will be appalling. Coastal Sydney (the beaches and harbour) is beautiful, while inland Sydney is ugly endless suburbia. So if you do come, you're better off ignoring the Olympics and hanging out at the beach or on the harbour. (*) IIRC, seasons in the US start on solstice and equinox dates (which are around the 20th/21st of the month), while here in Australia they start on the 1st of the month. So for example, in the US, winter starts on December 21st (am I right?) and for us Aussies, summer starts December 1st. The reason for this difference is entirely human. Marko;
6. Mr Garrison: There's some really weird stuff happening around here tonight, Mr Hat. Mr Hat: You got that right, Mr Garrison! Marko;
7. I can't predict the future, but I will go out on a limb here, and predict that I will be playing Combat Mission on New Years Eve 1999. Marko;
8. Peter, Just sit back and watch the Rugby World Cup. Enjoy it until Australia thrashes the Kiwis in the final. And then, at this very painful moment, come back here and download the CM demo. Everything will be bright again! Marko;
9. How many times do I have to tell you guys not to buy something before you try out its demo? Tsk, tsk, tsk! Marko;
10. How could I forget Old "I like it firm and fruity" Nursie? But Flashheart? Nah, he's just a git. Ooh, I have to go: a lorry load of paperclips just arrived! Marko; P.S. What are you implying about "Bob"? That he's really a girl? Nonsense! He plays cricket, he farts in bed...
11. Looking forward to: * Combat Mission * Dirt Track Racing Currently playing: * none Marko;
12. And here I was hoping for Captain Blackadder, Private Baldrick, Lieutenant George, Captain Darling and General Melchett! Marko;
13. Note to Battlefront marketing. Less soldiers, more naked women on the front cover. Marko;
14. Fionn's point about reviews is spot on. I've come to almost totally mistrust the damned things. Now I download the demo and if it sucks then I'm just not buying the game. Too many people enter a store and buy a crappy game because it has a picture of a half-naked woman on the front cover (I know I have!) If people relied more on demos and less on reviews then I think there'd be less crappier games bombarding us during the holiday season. Marko;
15. Steve, DirectX version 7 has been released recently so you might want to take that into account in your beta testing. I've had one of my games not work because of it, and I've heard reports from people that many other games have problems with it. It's supposed to be backwards compatible, but this is Microsoft we're talking about. Marko;
16. Rex, I attended grad school at OSU in '94-'95. The women were beautiful it goes without saying. While the football team struggled we had a very good women's soccer team. I was their number one fan. Did I mention that the women were beautiful? Marko;
17. Sydney, Australia - where it's too bloody hot in the summer, but we do have the best harbour in the world. Rex, I attended OSU for a year. I once rode my bicycle from town (Dairy Queen, I think) to the OSU library with no hands! I nearly lost it on the final hill to the library. Corvallis is a nice town. Marko;
18. I wish Steve or Charles were here so we could close this thread.
19. Fionn wrote:
quote:
FWIW the wife (or soon to be wife at least) isn't the problem for me.

Ah but that's just it, Fionn. She's not your wife *yet*. And then give it say 6 months for the wheels to get into motion. Pretty soon you'll join the ranks of the bitter, ever-complaining husbands. And yet, and yet, we single men will ultimately envy you. Marko;
20. Any Blackadder fans here? Lt George (look forward to flying): Crikey! I'm looking forward to today. Up-diddly-up, down-diddly-down, whoops-poop, twiddly-dee, a decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron, a bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines, capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals! Pvt Baldrick's poem: Hear the words I sing, War's a horrid thing. So I sing-sing-sing, Ding-a-ling-a-ling.
21. Dear BTS, In recent days my condition has worsened. I am no more the productive worker that I once was. I no longer have a life. And now I have a split-personality. Currently, I am my old self. But my new self -- the disturbing one -- well, he steals 2 hours from me every day poring through this bulletin board or those evil after action reports. It is with a mind-numbing fear that I await the actual release of your game. For I know that this is when he will strike and try to turn what is now two hours into an endless 24. I will cease then to exist. My job, my family, my life -- all sacrificed to his awful passions and desires! So I beseech you, BTS: please do not release this game. Please -- arrgh! He is near -- I hear him! Heed my warning ... arrrgghhh!!! ... Ahem. Please ignore the nonsense which I penned above. I've been suffering from a nervous condition lately which causes me to experience brief moments of irrationality. So, BTS, I urge you to continue with Combat Mission. I look forward to it very much and wish you the best of luck with it. Now please excuse me while I attend to some urgent matters. Marko P.S. With apologies to H.P. Lovecraft
22. Does Fionn know that Martin will be receiving reinforcements? I realise he doesn't know where and when they are coming; my question is simply if he knows they are coming. Marko P.S. No more excuses. My pre-order check is being sent on Friday when I visit the bank. Yee-haw!
23. In the Outback, on a clear, moonless night, the Milky Way casts a shadow. If you ever witness such a phenomenon, you'll agree with me that putting together the words "light" and "pollution" is a totally obvious thing.
24. What!!??? Combat Mission isn't using real-time raytracing? Aaarghhhh!!! Actually, KwazyDog, I think Quake's models have more polygons, but I'd like to see Quake try and display 500 models in the same scene!
