  1. Patches are my worry. If we in Europe have to wait for localised patches it'll be a bit of a bugger playing head to head games with people with different versions.
  2. There's a great episode of the M*A*S*H syndicated TV series which deals with "Washing Machine Charlie" in the Korean War. Coincidentally, that very episode is on in the UK tonight (March 14th), on the Paramount Comedy Channel at 19:00.
  3. From the equipment you've got I'd suggest emptying your 210mm rockets over the town (don't stand too close - rockets are none to accurate!). Then push infantry into the town covering them with the King Tiger and the stug. Remember the king tiger has much tougher armour than the stug so it can get nearer to the action. Keep the stug 200m away from the buildings if you can.
  4. A battle I'm designing. Place: Scattered trees Conditions: A Foggy dawn A British 10 man squad struggles through the trees under the weight of their kit. "Hey Sarge - there's a foxhole over there. We could take a quick break in it." "Good thinking Jones" says the Sargent. The men tumble into the hole and gratefully rest. "Fag anyone?" says Smith. "Take one and pass it on." he says, passing the pack to Williams. The pack does the round. "Hey!" shouts Smith "I had 12 smokes, there's 10 of us, but my packets empty. Who took more than one?" "Ha Tommy - it was us!" jeers a pair of German artillery spotters appearing in the hole as if from nowhere. "Were here all the time - now we shall attack you with our binoculars!" BladdaBladdaBladdaBladda said the Bren gun. No seriously, it took 9 seconds for my squad to realise they were sharing a foxhole with the enemy! I know the spotters were in the hole as I put them there in the scenario editor
  5. Here's a question that just occured to me - where did the Polish troops fighting in the west in '44 come from? All that I can think of is that they must have been captured by Russian forces in '39 and then handed over sometime after '41. Did I guess right? Sortof on the same topic - how did Polish pilots reach the UK in time to fight in the Battle of Britian? Surely their planes wouldn't have had the range to fly direct?
  6. Here at work at the end of an ISDN link I find the site slow. At home with a 56K modem it's painful. The trick I've found is to turn off the automatic loading of images and then use Netscapes "Show Image" menu option to look at individual pictures.
  7. I pleased that wheat fields do have different attributes depending on the time of year. My guesses would be: D-Day to August/September: Yellow, good cover, highly flamable if dry. Harvest till Spring: Brown ploughed field, tiring to walk across when damp. Spring to May: Green field, increasing cover as crop grows. Yeah, ok - just call me Farmer Giles
  8. A bit off topic, but terrain related. Isn't anyone else disturbed about yellow wheat fields in early April?
  9. Could we have an "official" answer to this one? The question's just been bugging me...
  10. Back to the original question Giving that we, the unwashed public, won't get our grubby hands on the real game until at least February (maybe we'll get the gold demo in January), I'd rather this was delayed by a day or two in order to give us a couple more scenarios to play with over the holiday. Howsabout a big map, rolling terain with only a few trees for cover. A large Allied infantry and tank force attacking a viliage held by weak German forces supported by a couple of tigers. Bagsy I play Germans first [This message has been edited by Major LardLad (edited 12-18-99).]
  11. Yeah - I thought that would be the answer, and I do accept it as you'll end up with loads of specialised orders. It's still a bit annoying as I'm sure (for example) playing as a German commander you'd radio your Panther "I can see a Sherman coming down the road, whack it when it appears from behind that tree-line that's currently blocking your view to it." I'd want my tank to sit there with AP up the spout waiting for the Sherman, and not firing HE at some infantry running about in the distance. Come to think about it, I guess I could achieve what I want by setting up an ambush at the end of the tree-line. That way my tank should ignore the infantry unless they got too active, right?
  12. Imagine this situation. You feel that an enemy tank may appear if you move forward, so you order your tank forward in "Hunt" mode. As it moves forward it spots some enemy infantry. Is there any way I can order my tank to not to engage the infantry with its main gun as I want it to be able to fire AP at any enemy armour that might appear. Machine-gunning the enemy troops would be fine...
