  1. West Front is my favorite game, its absolutly brilliant. The OOB's have correct battalion names and the gameplay is good. The AI may need some work in the campaigns but still is fun to play with. I think that Combat Mission is a great game and I know I will enjoy it, as will many. But I will not just put down my WF and RS, both of those I will continue to play, probably into next year. The great thing about CM is that I can finally play a realstic FRONT LINE simulation. Im sure it will beat the hell out of CC5. Thanks
  2. American-- If I had to choose one it would be the.......Pershing German--Tiger Brit----Comet Russian-----T34/85 Infantry weapons Rifle----Lee Enfield LMG-----Bren HMG-----MG 42 SMG----MP 40 Assualt Rifle---MP 44 AT weapon---Panzersheck Artillery field gun---25 pdr Rocket launcher--nebelwerfer Cant think of anymore....
  3. The British SS? Ive read in many books the Germans calling us Canadians that. In one book about the Rhineland a German arty Captain said that we always got the tough jobs...thats unfair. Although We Canadians were sacrificed at a very high rate during Hong Kong, Dieppe,Normandy (Verriers ridge, Falaise),Sheldt (causeway). lots of others countries got just as beat up, and fought at the same level as the SS. The British 1st Airborne, Everyone trapped in Tobruk in '41, The Americans at Omaha. I beleive the Canadians were shock troops becouse we were never really out of contact with the good German divisions. In Ortona we fought the 1st German Airborne division and in North-west Europe we fought the (as with the rest of the 1st Canadian army) 1st SS panzerCorps and their heavy tank battlions, and after we got out of that mess we came up against poorer German Formations while clearing the Channel ports...they Canadians mauled those Formations. Then we Came up against the elite Parachutists in Holland and the Rhineland. And in everyone of these battles the Canadians came out on top!. But the Canadians were always beside the Brit Formations within the 1st Canadian army (and the Polish armd Div). If the Canadians are goint to be known as Shock Troops than The whole of the first Canadian army should be known as that...Not just the Canadians.
  4. I would like to thank everyone involved with making CM. The have put in a great amount of effort and time to bring us a great game. But I would really like to thank them for including units from other nationalites, other than American and Germans. You guys are an American company and you still show the Canadian, British, Free French and Poles as well as the American and German Forces. I am very happy that at least some people acknowladge that other countries were fighing and dying too. In the CC4 Forum I posted that CC5 should have Different nationalties involved, It seems that most Close Combat players want American units only again.....that is sad. ANy way thanks for putting in different units. And here is a question..what was better armed during ww2 And AMerican Platoon or a Brit Commonwealth one? Personally I think they were equal. The LEE Enfield could be fired faster and more accuratly than most semi-auto rifles The Bren Gun was In my opinion the best LMG the Allies had and well the Sten gun Stank, but we managed to get tommy guns through land lese. and PIAT, ALthough akward had a better chance at penetrating armor than a zook' did. Anyway Thanks CM developers
  5. Hey I am A Close Combat fan and I do Like Close Combat 4 but wow Close combat has changed from cc1 and 2 (the 2 best). It used to be about infantry holding on to a bridge or American troops Outflanking Germans, with little armor support. My point is the last 2 close combat games are losing its infantry dominance and it is a tank oriented game now. Close Combat 4 has tried to fix it but it still needs work. I hope that CM is more of an infantry oriented game. Who else thinks thats sad............ thanks
  6. In the campaign game will dead tanks be still where they were hit and destroyed if you get to the same map again. And are you planning another demo...or not. If you are (you dont have to, this one is great) put some Brit or Commenwealth infantry and tanks in thier,it woould be neat.
  7. combat mission is pretty damn Immersive too......eh!
  8. Who Cares about eye candy, No wargame out there has great Graphics. West Front, East Front, Even Close Combat dont have amazing graphics, but for a WARGAME where STRATAGY counts, as long as you have decent graphics like road to moscow im happy. For A wargame the combat mission crew has modeled excellent graphics while still bieng a true strategy based war game, eye candy is extra. WOW is said something very important, yes I did, it was WARGAME not FPS where graphics are the name of the game. Tanks look great, and if it is a Tiger tank......it looks like a Tiger tank. The infantry looks better than I expected, they duck, they shoot, they throw grenades, they run. Uniforms are good, SS have Camo smocks, Whermacht troops have grey green uniforms. American troops have their uniforms. The Weapons Are good,American m1's and BAR's, Germans have in their hands Mousers Mp 40's and MP 44's. The sound.........Great. Tanks Rumble along, Infantry speak, Weapons fire sounds good. Big Time has made a good Historically accurate wargame, with realistic LOS and Armor penetration. AI is also great.BIGTIME has MaDE a good..Great Wargame with Great Graphics for a WarGame! No its not perfect, nothing is perfect, But its a Bloody good war game! Thanks for including Canadian units BigTime. Yours LT CANADA!...SIR.
  9. This game is simply Brilliant, I have very few complaints. I loved seeing my SS panzer Grenadiers in last defense break into the town and almost to the bridge before bieng counterattacked (and the AI does it so well). The American defense was smart, not like in west front where the MG units just run into oblivion. My Tiger tank was sadly destroyed after a run-in with a few m-18's. My Stugs were also shot to hell, but I loved it. The Graphics were great, better than I had expected them to be. The tanks looked great, but I love the infantry men even more. Terrain looked amazing, hiding my men in a little dip in the ground from a rampaging m-18 was cool. my only complaint is that the map for last defense was small, I havent seen the other one yet. But i heard in another thread that there are bigger ones so it isnt much of a complaint. Anyway for all the people involved in CM's development, my hat is off to you guys.
  10. First of all I agree with Dano about Clark he was a glory seeker. But during Falaise it was also Bradleys opinion that Patton could not hold falaise and Trun. The Germans would have bashed through his roadblock and coused the deaths of lots of Americans. Monty decided that it would be better for a strong mobile corps to close the gap than a dangerously overstretched armoured battlegroup! Monty was also slow becouse the politics affected him to. Britain,Canada and Poland had very little replacements left after the Normandy campaign. Monty's job was to get that gap closed in the quickest possible time with the least amount of casualties. Anyway thats my opinion, I did however forget to mention the 1st Polish armoured division that was in the 2nd Canadian corps, the 1st Polish division took many casualties in getting that gap closed. I felt I had to address that.
  11. Actually i was defending Monty but I actually think that Falaise was a very interesting battle. I actually didnt mean to attack Dano I just wanted to talk about falaise, I really am too proud of my army, and if it sounds like I am making fun of another army than I apoligize becouse each army had its strenghts and weaknesses. I meant nothing against Dano, just was talking of a controversial battle a long time ago. Sorry Dano I meant nothing against you or anyone else. Thanks for the FYI JhonnyMo.
  12. Although I agree with some of your comments Dano I dont agree that the Canadians had their work cut out for them. During the Normandy Campaign Canadians took more casualties percentage-wise than anyother allied amry there. It was 2.5 times the Britsh rate and 2 times higher than the American rate, 85% of these casualties were in the Infantry. At the end of the Normandy campaign multiple Canadian battalions had taken 100% casualties, most of them in thier first week of battle. During operation Cobra, forces on the american first army front were as follows: 2 panzer divisions, one panzer grendier division(with only assualt guns} and no battalions of heavy tanks. British second army front (of which 1st canadian army: Four heavy tank battalions, one company of King-tiger heavy tanks, Seven Panzer divisions (1st and 2nd SS panzer corps}. of these panzer divisions 5 and a half are east of the orne facing the Canadians! During the faliase battles the Germans held the high ground, their Tigers and Panthers knocked out Canadian shermans from 1 and a half KM away. and once our shermans bugged out to escape annhailation our infantry would be overrun after taking the objective by SS troops and Tiger tanks. Doesnt matter how many troops they had, they had better tanks, longer range guns (88mm) and better machine guns, and better positions and seasoned officer and NCO's and Also they were SS elite troops, Canadians were never out of contact with the SS during the whole campaign! While we Kept the enemy panzer divisions pinned down you Americans were in paris. I dont mind that the Americans got the glory, but when it comes to falaise that is a sore spot with Canada, becouse we were the ones going as fast as we could, taking obscene casualties in trying to get the gap closed and yet after all the sacrifice we were too slow, we werent but we had to contend with a batterd but still there SS panzer corp. It wasnt anyones fualt, especially Monty's who allowed his forces to get batterd and bruised so the Americans could break out. Dont say we had our work cut out for us becouse at the time of Falaise the average Canadian infantry company numbered at best 30 men out of 127. With those casualties its a wonder we got to Falaise at all! I dont mean to sound harsh, and I Dont mean to make fun of Americans in any way becouse we all won that war, im just saying that it was the Germans that stopped us from getting to Faliase not anyone else. We took the crap in Augest 44 and the American took the crap in December 44. Were all equal and im glad that in any future war I would be fighing beside British, American, and germans troops.
  13. SO you are saying that the only Squads for Britain (Canada and commonwealth also) is Rifle, Airborne and engineers? What about platoon HQ's, Mortar teams, Machine gun teams, Sharpshooters and PIAT squads or Battalion HQ's are these units featured or are they just Rifle, Para and Engineers? Ok now that im done with that I would like to say that it is really amazing that you mentioned the 12th SS and Kurt Meyers desprate stand at falaise. You guys have really done your homework, and maybe this will stop some people from saying that Canada was too slow in getting to Falaise.
  14. I know that you guys arent aloud to tell but is everything running at least somewhat smoothly with CM, are the testers happy with the game so far?. And when are you guys releasing a demo? Thanks again
  15. Nice AFV list but The Universal Carrier, Churchill VII, Sextons, Canadian made Kangaroo APC's and the best Brit tank of the war and possibly the best allied tank of the war, the Comet. Anyway these vehicles are just suggestions the list looks good as it is One more Question about infantry, is there specific squads like in cc2 or not? thanks alot.
  16. You guys are always talking about how good the tanks look! Your infantry lnfantry also looks Great! I get a huge kick out of seeing them running alongside tanks. For once a game that is not just tank oriented {close combat series, well not so much cc1} but shows that combined arms is the way to go! Infantry actually have a big part to play.
  17. Hey sorry to be off topic but what do u guys think is better the BAR or the BREN in the LMG catagory? I think the Bren, but im partial to Brit made weapons becouse Canada used them in World war 2. My brother and I used to get in terrible fights about the lee enfield rifle and should the British and commonwealth switched to the m1 Garand or not? I think that it was good they didnt, but again im partial to British weapons
  18. When Is this game due out?? Is it still late fall? Any month/day in peticular? p.s Game looks Great p.p.s When is turn 32 going to be shown? its really interesting! that battle your having.
  19. Is there going to be an internet gaming site for CM or will it be Play-by-Email games? THX p.s My name is in capitols becouse caps lock was on and i failed to notice....thx again.
  20. Im am wondering if Bigtime software is planning to sell this game in Canada? Thanks again
  21. Any idea of when the demo will be out?
  22. Will there be artillery on or off the map? And does it come at the start of a turn, or does it not come at all? Anyway just asking, the game will rock with or without artillery. p.s Will the manual include info on all weapons used from rifles {lee enfield is my fav} to Kingtigers? Sorry for asking so many questions but i am really excited for this game! THX.
