  1. Well, since Austria at this point is considered part of Greater Germany, then German, I guess
  2. VERY interesting... I had often thought of doing a D-Day invasion scenario, but it already looks as if you're way ahead of me. Can you post the scenario when you have completed it? I'm eager to see how it looks... 137G
  3. Thanks much, Offwhite. Actually, the filename is all I need. I don't have the Beta demo anymore, but am, fortunately, a graphics artist, and will be able to recreate the symbols fairly accurately. Thanks again...
  4. 1 CD, 1 Book. Both very well done, I might add. You could still smell the paint on the disc and the print in the book when it came out of the box.
  5. Thanks for your reply Steve. You mention a "Mod-maker". Any one in particular that you would recommend for this or any other mods to the game?
  6. Will someone please kill this post? It's totally pointless.
  7. 1) To the BTS crew - CONGRATS! I received my copy of CM last week and it's THORUGHLY addicting. The panzer poster that came with it is also excellent work. I'm getting it framed as we speak. 2) THANK YOU - You cannot imagine my elation when I poked through your manual for the first time and saw that little Edelweiß icon in the list of available troops. When I first brought up the notion of adding Gebrigsjägers a year ago, the future of that particular soldier type was uncertain. I'm glad to see it definitely made it in. Excellent work on the Edelweiß patches on the image maps, BTW, although you forgot the matching hatpin (minor detail) 3) Question: I also remember in early versions of the demo and screenshots that the hackenkreutz (sp?) was clearly present on the Wermacht standards. I even remember complimenting you on your embracing of true, non-revisionist historical attitude during the production of the game. In the final version, however, it seems to have been removed. Also, I noticed that you used the standard Helvetica font for the "SS", as opposed to the actual "runes". Did the game sadly give way to the usual PC rhetoric, or were you taking into consideration sales of this game in Germany and Austria where such symbology is verboten? Again, thanks for the great game, and I think the missions MIGHT hold me over until CM2. Definitely, a more complex system than Close Combat ever aspired for. You are all to be commended. 8. Hey all, Just tried downloading the 1.0.1 patch for Mac, and the link seems to be broken. The Windows patch seems to also be lost. Anyone know what's going on with that (BTS response preferencial) Thanks, -137G
  9. Hi, all... I pre-ordered my copy last year sometime, and I recall some mention of a poster of some German Panzer being sent out with all pre-orders. Will this still be the case? -Gebirg
  10. Why, Austrian Mountain Troops, of course (137th Gebirgsjaegers, 2nd Mountain Div, to be precise)
  11. Pre-ordered, won't copy. Especially since I don't know anyone else with a Mac in my area Just kidding...outstanding work, guys...
  12. I'll be the big Three-Oh in August. But I remind my fellow armchair warriors that it's not the years, it's the mileage.
  13. Fionn wrote: <HR WIDTH=75%>previously the German squads threw grenades which looked round and like pineapple grenades. now the Germans throw proper "Potato Masher" grenades<HR WIDTH=75%> I believe small pineapple grenades were also used by Germans, although not as common. They were smooth and egg-shaped with a seam around the center. I remember seeing a few at some WWII Living History demonstrations. [This message has been edited by 137th Gebirg (edited 03-24-2000).]
  14. Although I'm not entirely sure I agree with Delta Charlie's flamboyant anti-PC rhetoric, I will say that the article he cited is erroneous in its claim that "The notorious Waffen SS troops ran the Nazis' death camps". It was, in fact, the Algemeine SS - a special SS branch run entirely by Himmler - that was responsible for the death camps. The Waffen SS were merely elite shock troops that specialized in small unit tactics. I will add that it's disgusting how politically correct zealots have twisted the facts of history to suit their own reconstructive vision of the past.
  15. In answer to various questions posted on replies, I believe it's Rage II, not Rage Pro, and it only currently has 4MB of VRAM. To update, I DID manage to get it to run when running the universal updater from ATI, but the graphics looked significantly...crappier...then they did with the other card I was using (an older, standard ATI video card). Yes, it's much faster now, but the details were significantly lessened, even when I set the 3D render quality in the ATI control panel to high. I can't make out the faces on the soldiers anymore, and the roads and fields look extremely blocky and pixelated. The card I installed caused other problems around my system, and I suspect I'll probably remove it anyway. It caused ATM, Adobe Acrobat, and all Aladdin Stuffit software on my box to crash and burn, and other applications Error-2 and Error-3 on a dime, now. -sigh- I might have to get a newer card anyway. Thanks for everyone's input, however. It is appreciated.
  16. Hey, all... I suspect this question may have already been asked, but I'd rather ask it again any way than to go through 1000+ old threads. >Sheesh<! there's a lot of trafic here! Anyways... I just got this ATI XClaim 3D card from a friend. He had it in a PowerMac which he wound up trashing, but the card was still good. It's installed and running great...I was looking forward to getting some higher frame rates out of the CM demo game. Imagine my disappointment when all that came up was a blank screen. I could still press "invisible buttons", as I could hear the bleeps and blips when I click into open space, and I guess I hit "Start" one time where I could actually start hearing machine guns, etc. My question is this: Is there a compatibility issue with CM running on the XClaim 3D card from ATI? I do believe it has full Rave support, and I have seen other messages saying that it works fine on the XClaim 128 (a newer version of what I aparently have now). I'm downloading the latest drivers as I'm writing this, so hopefully the problem could solve itself. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced any issues with this. Any help appreciated...
  17. I noticed this as well. An alternative to adding a "Group Move" feature for any of the combattants, is to give the squad leader of that particular group an extra command on his drop-down menu selection to do a group move of all persons under his command. We all know who the squad leaders are due to the black lines on the ground drawn from a unit to its leader (a VERY neat feature, I might add - kudos to BTS for thinking that one up), so he would be relatively easy to locate. If the leader was KIA, a hierarchy would need to be established among the members of the charging group to see who would next be selected as squad leader. I am unsure if the system does this already, as I've never lost a squad leader, and don't know who would take charge. Lost a lot of tanks, though :-( It's hell to play German! I do have a Mac, though, and I've never had a problem with the mouse as other people have complained about. I do notice that the vehicle shadows somehow obscure the drop-down menus, as if they were floating on top of the screen, rather than down on the ground. I suspect that your testers have already caught that one, though.
  18. I've done several re-enacting impressions, including WWII German (137th Gebirgsjaeger, 2nd Mountain Div.), WWII Japanese (Isiu Island Provisional Infantry), and Vietnam (VC/NVA). Love to see the CM system converted to a Pacific-theatre campaign.
  19. I'd also like to add my voice to this one as a Mac person. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that there wasn't going to be a Mac version of Close Combat III:Russian Front. I guess you guys are just going to have to fill that void, especially if/when you make an Eastern Front variant for CM Later, -137GB P.S. - Don't forget the Gebirgs!!
  20. Hmmm... Spoken like a true Barbarian/Viking/Norseman. Wassa matter laddie? Do ye fearrr the power o' tha pipes??
  21. Have a few WWI & WWII reenacting friends who have, in the past, told me of bagpipers on the fields during a tactical event. Out of curiosity, will the morale rating of both sides be affected (increase or decrease, depending on the side) when the distant sound of the pipes will be heard? Just a neat little environmental touch that I don't know if anyone's thought of yet. Haven't seen any previous posts about it.
  22. D'oh! If we weren't on somebody's list yet, we are now. [This message has been edited by 137th Gebirg (edited 08-12-99).]
  23. CRourke - Yeah! I remember that guy! Definitely a nut. I even remember some Russian exchange students at my old alma mater telling me that he was rattling his sword about going to war with America to take Alaska back for the oil! Haven't heard much about him in a while. I guess the people got smart over there (at least with regard to him). In any case, the Soviet "General" I mentioned in an earlier post was actually a Colonel in the GRU by the name of Victor Suvurov (sp?). He's written several books on this and many other Cold War subjects. Still think it would make for a great wargame simulation, though
