  1. According to Dunn in “Stalin’s Keys to Victory, “At its peak the Soviets had a total of 11 million men … losses were 6.9 million dead, 4.5 million missing, and up to 4 million invalids. Adding these to the active troops in 1945, the total was 26.4 million.” The Soviet maintained a constant strength on the battlefield of ~6 million. The US battlefield strength grew to 12 million. I am speculating, but I believe the US infrastructure, industry and economy could train, equip, field and sustain a much larger force than the Soviets. Adding to this capacity was a US technological advantage that gave the US armed forces the ability to overwhelm any rival. Robert
  2. In a Territory script, can I transfer a neutral tile to a country? If yes, what number do I use for the neutral? Robert
  3. How about the northern route? Invade and take Canada, build up strength and then invade USA. But, it is good to read that my countrymen are successfully resisting the invader!
  4. Gunnery Radar and other electronics; it took the Japanese advantage away in night fighting and armor (plunging shot did not have to go through side armor).
  5. A lot of good input and a lot to comment on here; Let me address the Singapore item, as that was a milestone for me when we were testing the game. My first Singapore surrenders experience was a shock; I blinked twice, swallowed, paused and laughed out loud – it was just too cool for me. To a fault I enjoy the historical aspects of SC. I’ve always enjoyed reading the history and then playing the simulation. What the automatic surrender did was shock me; I thought this is how the British people and their Government must have felt. Betrayed, disgusted, not wanting to admit the reality of it. No, I did not like the surrender script, but I noticed the reaction that I had was what I perceived the British had in 1942. Any ways, this is just me. I am aware there are many other gamers with differing perceptions. I just wanted to share that with you. Robert
  6. Agreed, no tanks in 1914; make the entry historical. Another unit I was thinking of adding were reconnaissance aircraft. I don’t see the WW1 biplane has having any effect on ground or naval combat in a WW1 game. But, reconnaissance is a tactical advantage any SC player would want: to see over the enemy lines 2 or 3 tiles. So, you’d have an air war with reconnaissance planes uncovering major enemy units and fighters trying to shoot them down. "Sturmbataillione,” are of course very doable; and don’t forget the Devil Dogs (Teufel Hunden) of the 4th & 5th Marine Regiments. I was thinking about chemical weapons also, but how to simulate that is as difficult as simulating atomic bombs in 1945. I guess you could use strength scripts, but that reduces flexibility. Another though was to create a second artillery unit bitmap dedicated to gas attacks. But, the scale would have to be smaller than the global, and maybe smaller than the current PDE European map… It is still not clear to me as how the idea would be implemented. Robert
  7. If you want to use the Global map include the colonial wars, why not - should be interesting. For Asia you could even have a go at the Warlord period in China; also include a DE simulating the Japanese aggression (“12 Points” I think was the demand sent to China by Japan in 1916) and the actual or modified US reaction. If you don’t want to use the Global map, import the European map, and have fun. In the pics I see that is what Dominik has done. I'd keep the tanks at level 0, but that's because I like to simulate the historical. I thought about tank entry. One option is to set force levels at 0 for tanks, create DE’s that cause you to spend MPP’s at a given date for a given tank linked to a unit script. Should work ok because the DE sets the entry time, and it still costs MPPs. The real fun will be how to integrate the Russian Revolution! Robert
  8. Here are a few SC bitmaps modified for a WW1 game...
  9. Hi, I was thinking of a Cold War game also. But with one twist; start the game in 1948 (Berlin Crisis being the flash point) and within the next five years condense all of the cold war struggles that took place up to 1973. Robert
  10. Dominik, Looks great. I’ve done some work with WWI bitmaps; tanks, aircraft, Cossacks, Doughboys & Tommies! Later in the day I’ll share. I was thinking of a WWI game starting in 1917, just Europe and the Middle East. The big events are many: the Bolshevik revolution, America’s entry and the height of the Battle for the Atlantic to name a few. Another thought was to use the global map, start the war in 1914 and include all the colonial wars in Africa and Asia. Robert
  11. Chad, What did you have in mind? Robert
  12. I’ll try to answer a few questions and provide some background. Play balance was the objective here. Japan’s early MPP wealth quickly changes as the USA starts to get annoyed with her. The MPP also allow Japan to make choice: conquer all of China, take on the USSR, or build a larger fleet and attack the USA. I think this is a design aspect that will have to be played out through 1945 to really judge. I’ll enjoy reading more feedback on this! I like this aspect. I am kind of partial to the historical and I really like how the games recreates the annoyance the Italians were to the Germans. Really, if my plan is the invade USSR, why do I need the annoyance of my Italian ally loosing his shirt in North African and Greece. So, you have another choice, save your ally or not. But, uncheck that box if this is a bother. Italy is a minor of Germany, so the MPP’s show up in Germany’s pool of MPPs. Great comments and observations guys - thanks. Sorry I can’t comment on everything. I know this game is going to be a blast!
  13. ... error when I try to run the Demo. I installed it on Windows 7 machine, using all the defaults. Any suggestions? Robert
  14. Armchair General did a comparison a while back, look at the matrix, and the article.
  15. Thanks for commenting on the game guys. Your interest motivates me. I have not thought about Vietnam as a separate game, but I have drafted a Global game that covers the major post-WW2 Colonial rebellions. Also, I have a draft game of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The thing is I have so many ideas but only so much time. I hope I have some time to devote towards an update to the Korean War game! Robert
  16. Great ideas. We can most of this with the current Editor. The exception is the “75 year game” because once you are at war you stay at war, and all technologies are available at start However, the individual scenarios would work. For the 1912 & 1920 scenarios; Chinese warlord period and the rise of the Kuomintang and Communist parties. I’d like to add to the list: 1917 – The breaking of armies, American enters the war, Russian empire collapses… 1948 – Flashpoints are Berlin, China, Colonial rebellions, and Eastern European revolts. Robert

  18. ... “Runtime error #3(trap)" appears when I start the demo. Do you have a fix?
  19. I think the USA would have committed “volunteers” to a fight in the British Islands. Maybe a Division or two of troops, most defiantly Air Squadrons (ala Flying Tigers), and the USN would have taken over convoy duties freeing up RN units to close down Germen occupied channel ports. I think eventually an undersupplied and under reinforced German Army would have overextended itself trying to push north (Scotland) and west (Wales) out of England. Eventually enough well supplied Commonwealth and other land units would have recaptured England.
  20. The battle was a short engagement that lasted a little over two weeks and included fewer than 500 U.S. Marines. But, the Japanese did get a bloody nose. It is remembered well by U.S. Marines and today the fighter squadron defending the Island at that time now bares the name Wake Island Avengers. Although I am of the opinion that the U.S. Commander having lost communications with a majority of the Marines gave up too soon. The Marines might have forced the Japanese to invade a third time. Also, the aborted relief convoy, if it had arrived, could have sparked a much larger battle; maybe the first all-carrier battle instead of the Coral Sea being the first. Despite the stout defense on Wake and the potential for a relief convoy, I think Bill got this one right in the game. The scale of the fighting, unless the relief convoy was not ordered to turn around, does not rate a USA unit in the game map. Semper Fi, Robert
  21. Snowstorm, You made me think… How about titling games with historical references. Like summer 1942 as “Axis High Tide,” or better yet quote Churchill (his eloquent rhetoric is by far the best in the English speaking world). Summer 1942, “the end of the beginning,” and the entry of the US, “So we had won after all!” Robert
  22. I don’t think it is because Italy is not active yet. May I suggest you model your East African event after the Communist Chinese activation in Pacific Theater. Russia is the Communists’ parent and is not active. Robert
