  1. Hi All, I have played a couple of games (Human v Human) were the Germans pulled it off. The British were a little too sure and moved some units away from the Islands. I think the threat of an invasion should keep the British home in 1940 less they leave an opening. IMHO the game seems good as is. Maybe Spain would join the Axis, maybe not. There is a DE that gives Germany a choice. Besides, if Germany takes the UK they can invest in Spanish diplomacy – and that does work. Robert
  2. Has it really been 10 years! I remember seeing the ad, downloading the trial version of SC1, and playing over and over again until the final version was ready for publication. Great fun, looking forward to the next 10.
  3. I did not read this till today... http://mapandcounters.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-personal-aside-to-gaming-community.html
  4. Hi Colin, Absolutely, I can see mistakes I made and know if Japan goes West and South into Asia they can leave their Eastern flank open. In our game my strategy to attack the Japanese home islands directly was a solid plan, I just executed it poorly. My bias has always been historical. I think it is historically correct to assume the Allies have the long term advantage. I like to play within a tightly aligned Historical context with victory conditions adjusted – just a preference. Robert
  5. Another one I thought of when I was writing Dave: I: Lower incentive by changing most Chinese cities to villages and removing the mines.
  6. Thanks LHouges. I did not expect India to be an issue. What you experienced did not come up in beta testing. At one point we considered making India and Pakistan Majors. That would have been fun, but we just ran out of time. The Soviet Navy is a weakling, not much to do there… did you notice the difference between American, UK and French carriers? I have looked at a number of Historical Cold War battles fought with WW2 equipment for mini-campaigns. I did Korea for the SC Pacific, and I started on a the First Arab Israeli war but kept getting side tracked. I appreciate all the compliments.
  7. David played like an ace. He used all the advantages that Japan has. China is weak, yes; maybe Japan should be given the opportunity to conquer all of China, but maybe at a cost. Here are some options: A: As each city in China is conquered Japanese NM lowers. B: Each Chinese city and many terrain features hold active Chinese partisans. C: Drastically lower Chinese Army and Corps rebuild costs. D: Start with three Japanese Armies in China, and all other units change to Corps. E: Don’t allow Japanese Tank building till latter, and make it a one strike unit. F: Allow only one Japanese Naval Infantry build, all others arrive via Unit script. G: Remove Seoul as a Japanese capital option. H: Fewer Japanese units in Japan lower Japanese NM.
  8. SeaMonkey, I hope you like it when you do play it. I just discovered the joys of playing with others; never use to till this year. If you want to have a go at it with me I can email you. Robert
  9. lhughes41, Thanks for the complement. I am glad you are enjoying the game. I can and will email you, but please share with us; what is the interesting story – I know all would want to read. Robert
  10. Can’t stop those Japanese, they have become my death’s nail. The Allies land in Europe – Spain! But, elsewhere the Axis is holding me off or taking ground.
  11. Midway invasion is not as successful as I had hope. Ditto in Egypt – that offensive is spent – too many losses. Russia is hard, Red Army are good defenders, no good on offense.
  12. Sorry guys, I missed this thread – I see it was started last week. Thanks for the complements. I do hope the events are familiar to those of us who live through some (or all) of the Cold War. My intent was to condense some of the major event of the Cold War (1948 through 1980) into the game’s scope. It made for a few good decision events.
  13. Russia: waves of Red Army infantry and tanks crash against the German spearheads, 2 panzers, an infantry go down, two more German units surrounded, and breakthrough units are taking bites out of German air force units. But, costly, one unit sacrificed itself, two others very weak. Reinforcements move up to Moscow. In the south another German unit destroyed, German lines of communications look weaker than I expected – did they throw everything at Moscow? As in the west, in the east the Soviets are happy to give up ground. The British counter-attack continues to press forward – USAAF is a significant factor. My investment in intelligence is starting to pay off – two Japanese amphibious revealed and attacked, one destroyed; the other may not escape. A third was torpedoed but is in good condition. Working to reduce Midway – I lost track of the main IJN force. That could be bad.
  14. Russia attacked – an overextension while Japanese Armies are in both South Asia and Australia, maybe not; need to see. The Japanese are very strong and China is out of the war. American’s begins their assault across the Pacific with an attack on Midway – USN starting to feel good. The Russians are ready, this is what they want – an attack on prepared positions. Advanced tanks, air force ready, lesser forces in the south ready to hamper German lines of communications. British counter-attack in Egypt destroyed an Italian tank… are the Italians in Africa at all? USAAF makes an appearance and its impact is felt. US reinforcements start to leaving the continental United States for Europe and points west in the Pacific. The USAAF is larger, technology is good.
  15. The Germans make the first move in Egypt, but there is only a timid UK response. The RN reappears, not timidly sinks a German BB. Sevastopol is relieved, while the rest of the Red Army enjoys the calm (Phony War of the East?) American carriers start the counter attack in Hawaii. Singapore holds on. Little is available to send to Australia’s aid. In fact, little is available in the entire Pacific. Sorry to see the last Chinese units go.
  16. Portugal’s war entry was a surprise; the script must be written so there is a slight chance that when Timor is annexed, Portugal declares war; might be we just hit the odds. The Chinese units are Free-Chinese units; scripts make any Chinese unit outside of China when China surrenders UK controled (might be better to make them USA controlled). I saw that Chungking was about to fall, so I tried to move as many of my units into Indochina and carry out the war from there. The Brits will continue to reinforce Middle East. The fall of the Suez means we must take it back. The RN is waiting in the Western Med, got to be careful of German airpower. Singapore will also be reinforced – dicer issue as the RN is not too strong in the Indian Ocean. The fight for Hawaii is on. The Soviets feel very comfortable sitting back, building the Red Army, and trading space for time. Hi SeaMonkey; I agree with david12345, the improvements made with this patch are good. But, the number of Japanese units deployed into China between 1939 and 1940 prevented the Chinese from surviving. If it is “right” to change what we have now to bolstering Chinese survivability we should look at some options to recommend to Hubert.
  17. This is hard, I can’t kill that tank in Egypt yet. The Russians will give up ground, lots of it. The paras in Russia are a dilemma… I may just let them sit. China looked good, but there were just too many Japanese units – do they have more infantry than the Germans? The Americans are building a big, tech heavy navy and air force – they will get into the fight fast.
  18. The situation is bad all over. I never thought of that deep strategy – dropping airborne armies in the middle of Russia; great move. The Suez is recaptured, but my lines are weak all around. China is ready to fall. I’ll have to revise my strategy; what can I hold on to… some parts of Africa, Singapore (that would be a coup if I could manage it), and Russia – got to hold Moscow. Sorry, no major RN commitments this turn.
  19. The Japanese survive the trap outside Chunking – a 1 strength unit holds the fort, and the line is breached, not good. You have a second tank in Syria  ! My salvation, the Red Army, joins the fight.
  20. RN is holding the line in the Atlantic. Panzers take Suez, Italian ships in the Red Sea, Brits counter attack – the situation is in doubt. Chinese continue to fight where they can, but Japaneses force are too large. Singapore reinforced again.
  21. Very nicely done – Panzers in Syria. China finds a way to fight back and takes out a Japanese army. What a surprise to find that German carrier in the middle of the Atlantic.
  22. All, Looking for Allied players. I want to see how fast the Axis can be made to surrender in this campaign modification. I posted 1944 Retribution a few months ago and I am ready for an upgrade. Player on player action will help. Send a Private Message if you are interested. Robert
  23. It would seem the Germans are increasing their efforts at the Suez. The RN may have to sortie and cut off Libya. Japanese navy sails close - Singapore is being reinforced. USA & USSR mobilization continues. The Japanese continue to pound the outmatched Chinese.
  24. Poor Sweden. The Americans alert the RN a German aircraft carrier in the Caribbean. The Brits are ready for a Germen-Italian thrust at the Suez. The Chinese fight to form a defensive line that can’t be broken, reserves in the queue. Thanks for the reminder SeaMonkey. Starting to think about Russia.
  25. The USA gives aircraft to the RAF. The RN gets a German sub in the English Channel. The Italians are quiet in the Mediterranean and so are the Brits. The Japanese have broken through. Queue reserves are deployed. Been expecting this, doing best to mount a good defense, not sure this will work.
