  1. I dont think you can go wrong no matter your choice. The mod and scenario community are exceptional here. I do however like our modern titles more but the best value and the most active will always be the WWII titles. Now you just get to decide which nationality and equipment will be the closest to your interest. Good luck and welcome aboard.

  2.

I have lost count of the amount of people that have just bought Black Sea, liked it, and admitted they have CMSF but haven't played it much.

I suspect the slightly rocky release of CMSF made people gun shy. It's a shame because it is excellent.

CMSF did well in sales, and so has Black Sea LOL. The rocky release was made up for by the time it was finished with CMSF. It is still my favorite and one of two video games I ever played in a combat zone. Black Sea is a far far better product but I really still like the theater and terrain of CMSF better. And the NATO module is the best BFC ever did as well, but waiting on an update to CMSF2 might be kind of a long one, but unless I win the lottery and can fund a Pacific WWII game, CMSF2 is what I am salivating for in the coming months or years.

  3. On behalf of everyone who ever heard Steve give a tentative date for a game coming out, I'll buy you a beer*.

*Disclaimer: Only if all of us where there when the Playboy mansion is teleported via the Dark Internet portals to Tahiti and I have won the lottery 6 times. Otherwise I couldn't afford the billions it would take to placate you guys.

*Disclaimer part duex: We are working with Steve to make up a 13th month so ambiguous that even if he says an exact date within this month, you will all be utterly too confused and think you have been playing it already for 2 months..

  4. Well what I loved when I was on the job was the people sitting there complaining about our brutality or how it was turning into a police state were the first ones bitching when they had someone come steal or assault them. Oh why werent you there to shoot them.

And there is no attempt in jaywalking. The first step you made into the street was actually jaywalking, so if you really want to look at it, they did cut you a break.

  5. It reminds me, One time at band camp we modified a MG42 to fire a 155mm shell. We set it on auto but we were having trouble with this as it fired just once and took 2 minutes to load again. The tuba player had an idea to use it on 3 shot bursts. Well dummy that didnt work as it really did the same thing. The flute player had an idea to use 50 shot bursts. So we set it to 50 shot bursts and that fixed the problem. See why flute players are usually smarter than tuba players?

  6. I essentially stated this in a round about way in my post that he ignored. But what do I know I only did this for a living for 23 years. ;)

interesting, yet debatable comment from "Intelligence Bulletin, Vol. III, Part 3, Dec 44, page 52

    Machine-gun Fire

"Our men have learned how to get around the fast-shooting

German light machine guns. These guns have such a rapid rale

of fire that they are not able to cover a great deal of ground.

When our men have stayed well apart, the machine guns have

not been able to do much damage. Actually, these weapons are

terrific ammunition wasters. And our men have learned how to

take advantage of the few moments afforded when the crew must

change barrels. This happens frequently because of the high

rate of fire. What ground the light machine guns cover is cov*

ered well, but it's a very limited area."

  7. I would like to point out to the OP that even with this uber weapon, the Germans still lost the war. That being said, ROF has very little to do with kill ratios. It's why we in the US Army have an economy of fire doctrine.

A few things off the top of my head come to mind.

#1 Anyone holding the trigger down to establish the rof you are dreaming of should have been taken out and used to run across minefields because that's how useful they were as MG operators

#2. Using such uber ROF would mean the barrel would be useless after a few minutes and changing barrels in the midst of a close assault would be just the kind of thing you wouldnt want for your ubermgtruppen.

#3. Your ROF argument would hold more merit if the unlucky guys running across this fantastic kill zone were on stilts. Now we will have to probably close assault Charles and Phils pillbox to get them to code into the game the LOS calculations necessary to accomplish this. You could probably shoot down a few biplanes though.

#4. Again let me point out that your uber German MG squads would be the envy of all had they been able to accomplish this kill ratio. I can think of no memoirs of a MG42 operator who had these thousand of kills.

Anyway, you most likely have never fired a MG before if you think these were much more than what they were, a good reliable suppression option that had it's fair share of kills but didnt have the success you have made it out to having.

  8. I think what is usually the case with the fans here is that they get the game and expect the same results all the time to come from this game. The engine just deals with probabilities and that in itself will certainly not always produce realistic expectations. There are so many variables that go into the physics sub-routines that who is to actually say with every shot if the round has lived up to the realism you expect.

  9. I think it is rather unusual to ask customer - to change internet provider (it is of course possible but there are problems since I have also TV phone etc) to buy their games !

Well, they could ask you to move to a country who's Internet Providers are loved and admired all around the world...

  10. Sigh, am I so old I remember when wargamers could care less about the graphics? Am I also so old as some of you played hex-based 2D wargames and liked them? I'd say we passed that long ago but it amazes me how ppl used to say how the game sucked because of the graphical improvement BFC did over hexes to now every incarnation gets even better graphically and people want so much more. :D Wargamers are by far the best genre. :).
