A completely WAG but I always figured the secondary bar was some sort of administrative hack, possibly to keep track of rounds in air at the end of firing.

Any chance of nightvision & regular goggles?
Elmar Bijlsma replied to 19Kyle72's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Perhaps it's a a poly thing? Too many polygons for a pretty marginal visual addition. -
btw, An addition to the suggested UI: The red bar for the current fire mission to be divided in red for rounds fired in the assigned fire mission and Yellow for rounds assigned to the fire mission as yet unfired.

I like this idea a lot. Slightly OT: May I suggest that in future you crop the image to the relevant portion and blow that up a little? Kinda tricky to see what's going on.

The road ahead... a recap
Elmar Bijlsma replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
CMC? Because they'd have to sell it at a cheap price. I don't think it's financially worthwhile for BFC to have Charles work on something that takes development time away from the real money spinners. Don't get me wrong, I like to see a serious campaign element for CMx2 too. And personally, I think BFC may just be underestimating the interest in a serious campaign element at least as much as we underestimate the effort it takes to make it happen. I think the only chance for it to be worth their while is if BFC go for it 100% themselves and really put a thing of beauty together and re-use it several times. It's a risky move and not all that attractive if you can sail an arguably safer course. So no campaign for the foreseeable future, I reckon. But who knows, when Joe Public gets tired of CMx2 titles, they might need to spice things up and decide that a campaign layer is what's missing after all. -

I'm in two minds about this whole thing. One the one hand Kettler is a nice and helpful guy to have around. And even if he weren't, he'd still deserve the same rights we all have here. But what he writes in the "Kettler" threads is just so offensive to the thinking man. Sometimes just plain offensive, as in the 9/11 where some of his theories are just repugnant. I've asked him politely in the past that he should consider his audience and perhaps go elsewhere with these types of threads. He won't. On the contrary he now comes here to tell us of every nutjob theory out there. Frankly, it's come to the point where I believe he's having us on or something. PS Don't knock responding with venom. It is fun and about as much as these threads deserve. -

A good question. -
No it's not. I deny everything.

Ah, I see. I assumed you meant the ATGM team. Thought it a bit you had failed to notice vehicles responding to them. Interesting idea, allowing vehicles to react to a missile even if the firing unit goes unspotted. I can definitely see why it's desirable and realistic. Devil would be in the detail. Where to have the AI area fire if it hasn't seen the firer, some random spot in the general area? Back up to where if you don't know where the firer is? Will smoke deploy in time? Not in most CMSF maps. At the ranges typical in CMSF, whether the bunny is transfixed by the headlights or not makes little difference, it's gonna get flattened. I'll pass it along to The Powers That Be. Not sure if it'll do much good for CMSF, but perhaps it'll be useful for when the Brits in CM:Normandy keep pelting a AFV with PIAT bombs. You'd expect them to back off a little after repeatedly getting shot at with a PIAT even if the firer remains undetected.

Keep looking.

If an ATGM is spotted they do exactly that. Well, perhaps not zig zag unless terrain happens to make them do so. I'd reckon zigzagging might be plan B to hauling ass.

CMSF 1.10 QBs - Not improved very much?
Elmar Bijlsma replied to sandy's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
Well, CMSF shouldn't CTD like that. Release versions have only CTD on me once. But have you tried scenarios? Judging CMSF by the QBs is like judging a porn models attractiveness solely by her arse antlers. -

It's pretty finnicky, but should be easy to do if you zoom all the way in. Trick is to do it low or inertia will fuxxor it up before the lower wheel presses the top wheel against the wall when it meets the hump. Earlier I fluked my way through Back and Forth, so I had a proper go at it just now. http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2623396 I must say, I'm rather pleased with it's relative simplicity. Every movement is smooth and helps things along, no movement wasted. Pure luck, but kinda cool. -

You'll kick yourself once you figure it out. It's stunningly simple, though you have to do it juuuust right. S P O I L E R S P A C E Hint: Clockwise and counter-clockwise wheel, three sticks: Presto! Total spoiler: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2620468 -

Nope, tried it and can't bring myself to like DH. Some f-ed up balancing there. Too many times were repeated flankshots went un-rewarded. ROF of some guns still very suspect too. Some very nice new maps though. -

Just completed all the missions. Mostly low-tech or brute force solutions so I was eager to check how others completed some of the more interesting puzzles. Man, some of the solutions others came up with are wild! -

v1.10 is great: now let's talk about v1.11
Elmar Bijlsma replied to c3k's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Some want this micro managment. Some do not. Guess which camp I am in? The feedback is pretty much already there. As to your specific issue, what's puzzling you? If a gun battery is firing, it would seem obvious that it indicates that it's responsiveness is way down on account of being busy. It doesn't fire at a centre point. Area fire is distributed along the length of the selected floor of the targeted building. This one has been discussed at length already. I am not convinced it's all that important as you make it out to be. Most AFV crew members seem unaware of the overkill concept and opt for the gun that makes the most reassuring bang 99.9% of the time. -
I'm having some difficulty believing this thread.
