  1. Buzzsaw,

You abandon the MBT, and come crawling back begging to be let back in? Excellent lad! I love to see you grovel. However, I am going to make this MOST painful...

You are to challenge Boo to a game, and defeat him you must. Not that it is much of a challenge [ask Stuka], but I will find humor in Boo losing to a minion.

So go forth young Buzzkill *Boot* issue a challenge to Boo, Make it humerous, and full of bile. Dance for me...

  2. I'll post the name of the book and author when I get home, but I was surprised to read an account during Cobra, where a Stuart advancing right after the bombing runs across a Panther, fires three shots, which of course all three bounce, and high tailing it out of there with a very surprised crew.

Surprised because I would have thought they knew the 37mm pop gun isn't going to do much against a Panther, but guess not. Yes, it is an outlier, I don't think that was the norm, but still surprising.

  3. and only Elvis has seen MrPeng's jiggyly parts.

Using the King of South Philly as your selling point won't work for me. I still remember weeping during your various scenarios. You have much karma to make up and I daresay you just might be reincarnated as a syphilitic Met's fan in the next life.

I see that Hiram is still working for the Department of Redunancy Department. syphilitic Met's fan, sounds like you are descibing our Justacarrot Joebob.

That I caused you to weep, has made my day. I may actually get off my crutches [torn right calf muscle and Achilles tendon AGAIN] and create something new and evil. Hmm... the breakout on the Northeast side of Cobra seems tempting...

    To the map making...

  4. Caution was to be paid to the back-blast of the weapon, it created an explosion blast of two to three meters ( 6.5 - 10 ft.) behind the tube. Therefore on many Panzerfausts, especially the early Panzerfaust 30 m, a warning in large red letters printed on the upper rear part of the tube advised to stay clear: Achtung! Feuerstrahl! ("Beware ! Fire Jet !"; see pic. above of four Panzerfaust 30 in delivery crate).

Sometimes other variations of this warning were stenciled on the upper rear. But the back-blast wasn't only dangerous to bystanders: the rear of the firing soldier had to be free of obstacles for at least 3 m (10 ft.), otherwise heavy burns on the back of the firing soldier would result. Officially the rear of the gunner had to be free for 10m for safety reasons and the back-blast was reported as lethal to a range of 3m behind the tube. Mostly the fiery back-blast, but also the atmospheric pressure and the relative hazardousness of the blast's smoke put heavy restrictions on indoor use; this holds true even more for the Panzerschreck.

Despite the seemingly easy usage and the fact that simple usage instructions were printed onto each weapon, many accidents happened because of wrong handling of often ill-trained personnel, sometimes also because of material defects of the weapons themselves.

Although officially a single-use throw-away weapon, the used tubes of the all the Panzerfaust weapons were usually collected and returned for rearmament at the factory.

  5. Are you intentionally being a twit? If I said I am running it on three computers, then it is running on three computers. Maybe there are others that live here? Maybe you are the one without a clue when i said EXACTLY what i meant. You are just trying to start a fight and I won't play your game. Steve answered, and backed what I said.

    Rune

Running, eh? You play two with one hand each, one with each foot and one with the nose?

Despite your best efforts to pretend not to notice the difference between multiple installs and running at the same time it isn't very convincing.

  6. and i disagree, if people enjoy the game enough, they will go out of their way to play it on whatever box. While you protest the game protection, I could care less, non-obtrusive and not my call anyway. The guys know how much they lose in sales, or at least have an estimate, and in their opinion they need to protect their software. hey, it is their software, so if they feel it is needed, so be it.

And while I feel for the people who want to be able to switch operating systems, let us also be realistic. people WILL run the game on multiple systems at the same time. Heck I have it running on 5 systems right now. Guess what, I went and bought additional copies, even being a beta tester.

As for the modules, if people are interested in what is on the module, and enjoy the game, they are going to get it. If either one isn't true, then they won't. Doesn't matter what o/s is available, the user is going to like the game or not, and will know if they do within the first hour of playing. I don't buy the arguement "well, if I could play it 10 more hours on my laptop, then maybe I will like the game". Battlefront apparently has decided the protection of their software is more important then the loss of a few sales becuase they don't allow both operating systems to use one license. All the guessing otherwise is just that, guessing. They know the figures and have decided... that simple.

  7. Since we are talking games, lets compare to a game rig. If I get a xbox 360 game, can it play on the playstation? No? How about EA games, they surely allow you to run on a pc and a mac. No? How about steam games, certainly they allow you to download and run the games on pc and mac. No?

Yep, looks like people complaining they aren't getting enough free games.

  8. Sergei is correct, for CMBO - CMAK I had defined for the scenario authors semi-historical as based on reality, but could not find certain information [the majority of scenarios]. historical had an accurate map and forces. [There are scenarios I made that the tank locations are even accurate] Obviously this is for the start of the scenario. Fictional is a could of happened, or even a space lobster attack.

The system worked well for the CMX1 series.

  9. JonS,

Could be a typo of 487th, the documentation is old. Also Article XV was originally called Empire Air Training and didn't change til 1941. I have several copies of original documents, typos and all, as I was doing some research for a game on Aussie and NZ forces, and which got deployed to Africa and Italy for a board game LONG ago. I went and pulled the document out again, more faded then a typo... and these eyes aren't getting any younger. The game was the late 1970s, while in College, and was an SPI game for the emails I got. I don't remember the title, too long ago, but it was a tactical level game. Don't know if they ever added the Aussies/NZers to it. I was in a Reserve Officar Training Corp wargame society, and we knew someone who worked for SPI, and they occasionally gave us a way to make a little side money.

KR, primary trainer was the Wirraway as you stated. The Buffalos were in 4 squadrons at war's start, with a few still crated in reserve.

Blackcat, thanks for the fill in, what I found surprising is the way the Poles were treated at end of the war. Not allowed to march in the victory parade, and at one point being considered to be forced to return to Poland. Never heard that about the Commonwealth Graves Service, but being this side of the pond, we have enougth of our own weird things.

Last, Associate Professor of the Order of the Pedantic Flower, if your government is in exile, you are based on an island getting ready to defend such island, both with aircrews and ground troops, why wouldn't you consider yourself part of that commonwealth?

No new Aussies in Normandy have been harmed during the typing of this reply. We had one stumble over a paved road, but he caught himself quite nicely.

    Rune {Edited post to answer wagame question and to pull document out}

  10. Thanks for the update Blackcat, their own website states:

    "

    Who We Are

Established by Royal Charter in 1917, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission pays tribute to the 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two world wars. It is a non-profit-making organisation that was founded by Sir Fabian Ware. "

So you see where I got confused. yes, Dominion was used, but so was commonwealth.

December 1939, article XV which formed commonwealth or dominion air squadrons and training. I have several records from the British Government calling some of the squadrons commonwealth squadrons, while others, like the 708th NZ Squadron wasn't called Commonwealth until 1946. However, since they are post war documents, it could be incorrect. jury is out on this one.

Flowers sent to Mister Haverstock of melbourne for being injured in Normandy while reporting there were no aussie injuries in Normandy during the first post which shall now be referred as "the first post".

    Rune

    [very much tongue in cheek]

  11. Actually not that simple. The British themselves called the Poles Commonwealth Forces, since they WERE based in Scotland. Add into the picture that after the war, the majority stayed in the UK.

Add to the mix, it is none other then the Commonwealth Graves Service that maintains the graves of the Poles in Scotland.

So no, it is not as clear cut as that.

    Rune

No Aussies were hurt in Normandy during the typing of this reply.

  12. I was one of the original beta testers on Panzer Elite. Matter of fact, I did research on the German tank gun sight and got them a picture taken threw a sight and got a special thank you at the back of the original manual for the Patton Museum and myself.

PE beta testing was a lot of fun, almost as much as Panzer General that Wild Bill Wilder got me into.

I also notice someone else beta tested Close Combat, before or after Microsoft? I got to do both, and remember some sharp arguements during that beta.

  13. All you late bloomers... Read someplace in a magazine that some company was going to try a computer version of squad leader. Came to Battlefront before the game was even in alpha and offered to test on various operating systems [i still do] after reading their manifest. Been helping the guys ever since, sometimes paid, mainly not. Got into scenario making from Wild Bill Wilder, research from Steve. [ask Steve abot the American T28 or the Spanish Blue Division.] I failed to get them in, but did manage to get German Rifle Grenades, the Hungarian TO&E in among other things. Worked on about everything Battlefront has published, at one point Madmatt had me working on 5 games at once. Not much sleep back then.

    Rune

  14. Would I do that? Imagine, being accused of having something evil in a scenario. The horror, the horror...

    Rune

That tank is a sneaky ambush put in by the scenario designer.

In that situation the most effective way of killing it without taking casualties from that tank specifically is to be advancing with your infantry first.

When they eventually spot it the spotting sqd should go to ground. At that point sneak an AT team to that location and at the same time move the infantry sqd away. Then you need to be patient as the AT sqd will NOT immediately spot the tank but eventually they will and when they do they will take care of it.

But basically before this can happen you will need to have arty/area fired all the trenches etc so the Red infantry is already dead so your own infantry can move in relative safety.
