  1. Some brief, unstructured thoughts: Broadly speaking, ATGMs are like better versions of AT Guns. They're similarly hard to see, and they're countered by many of the same things (mortars and HE fire). They're a lot faster to set up and remove, so you can shoot and scoot with them, and probably should. The increased lethality means that you do need to relocate more often. A revealed position can often come under effective mortar fire within 5 minutes (regardless of which side you're talking about). Some US formations with crack FOs and the right equipment can reduce that to more like

  2. Graveyards up until tonight have been giving me a hissy fit - in particular, lining up the graves. I think I've found a solution ... Step 1 Make your graveyard boundary and select your grave flavour objects. My cemetery is a German military one so we need gravestone 4. Pick as many as you need and them plonk them on the map in the area of your cemetery. Step 2 Make a grid in your cemetery using the cross shape fence tile. Top tip - use a wire fence or one that you can see through rather than a wall or hedge. I have used a wire fence. Step 3 Go into 3D v

  3. That's actually an exaggeration... a patch that updated the scripts text file would only require the modded text file to be removed (the H&E team has had a LOT of fun with patches & scipt file changes!). So, in fact, the worst case scenario is "having a bit of a fright & then having to restart the game". I maintain that playing vanilla is perfectly okay, understandable & very, very common... I don't think anybody needs to inflate the "risks" involved in texture & sound modding.

  4. If you've done CM WWII you're 85% good to go. You'll find playing with anti tank missiles much more fun than anti tank guns. I suggest going on Youtube and watching Usually Hapless's tutorials on his channel. He'll explain what you've got and what they do.

  5. You seem to be suggesting that BFC games are some sort of 'open beta' games or something. That's not the case. Bug tracking is not chaos for BFC. Actual software that is designed for bug tracking is used by the company in order to get the appropriate information to the appropriate individuals and the beta testers are charged with providing the appropriate information through the use of that bug tracking software. While it is appreciated when players find things in the game that may need to be addressed the gaming public has no obligations of any kind in terms of bug tracking. Customers pl

Yeh, fair enough, but it sounds like the balance could do with some tweaking in favour of the AFV

  8. we can mix the Rambler's hedge, that of Lucky and that of stock to obtain variations. we can use various names with and without space which will more or less modify the randomness ex: boccage; boccage2; boccage 2; boccage3; boccage 3 etc ....

  9. No it is not. So, if one squad is out of ammo the enemy squad will gun them down one or two at a time until they run for it. If they are both out of ammo - well its kinda funny in a #sad kinda way. Thankfully I have only ever created that second scenario as an experiment.

  10. Thanks. I long used Rambler's excellent mods and then EZ's, which I think were versions of Rambler's, or at least inspired by them. Bocage/hedgerows are so variable it's probably impossible to model all the different types. Some like it thick, some like it thin ... What I'd really like is a model that introduces some kind of variation in density. We have two different heights plus the garden hedge, but what would also be good is some different densities along the length of the bocage, auto-generated by the game engine or applied by the map maker. Maybe if we get a CMx3 BN this could be in

  11. I may have said it before but I'm very glad you're okay (and long may that continue). Also very glad to have the Winter Mod, a fine piece of work.

Anyone on here able to confirm whether the game does in fact take into account an intimidation factor for infantry v's AFV's? Perhaps the earlier complaints against such a factor were based on that 'TC' being too restrictive?

  15. I have terrain mods in CMBN but not in any other titles. I think the later titles look good enough for me to not bother with them. For me, CMBN benefits quite a bit from some terrain mods. No other reason. I am constantly amazed at the work put in by people creating mods, so hats off to all of you. Dave

  16. Hmm it looks like you missed the post just above yours explaining how this is actually not even necessary and thus a moot point. I just reacted to two posts in a thread I created; one because I found the disappearing floor bit intriguing. And the second because of what you said concerning the need to remove mods when patching which is really not necessary at all. There can be nothing wrong about personal preferences and I would be a fool to argue about these things. But someone might read the thread and be curious about modding and get the wrong idea as a result of your post, so n

  18. Yes they will do that just like when you call tech support they will ask you if your computer is plugged. That's how troubleshooting works. But mods cause problems when patching only a tiny fraction of the time.

  19. Even though I dabble in art and computer graphics, gameplay is much more important to me than the visuals. And to be honest, the level of visuals in the game are never going to that great anyway given the engine limitations (lighting, shadows, limited normal mapping, limited modding support). So I prefer to play with a consistent visual style, which you aren't going to get with mods unless everything has been modded to the same style.

    Aris CMFB

I am pretty sure that Aris never made anything that comes near a "complete pack" of mods for FB. He made a few mods for FB, before he disappeared - but not many. And those he made should all be in Cmmods 3 or 4. I have 2,4 GB of Aris mods in my FB mod folder, but most of those are his mods from other games that I am just using in FB.

  21. Reported this. It seems the gunner is in the commander seat and vice versa. Thus with only two loaded, it can fire, but the gunner is not in the seat tied to reloading the RWS.

  22. I'm shocked to hear you say most people play the game from high up in the air and rarely look at the game close-up and see its visual detail. To me Combat Mission's most appealing aspect is the ability to watch events unfold on a macro scale in WEGO, then repeat the go 1, 2, or 3 times and watch interesting events unfold from the perspective of single vehicles and even individual soldiers. For me that's the core of its uniqueness and charm.

  23. I'm had 20 years of enjoyment from playing the various Combat Mission games, having bought every title and module except 'Afghanistan'. There's a lot to learn, in terms of gameplay, tactics, unit capabilities, and so on - it's endless. Mistakes are messy. That's why it remains such fun. When you want something different - there's a whole world of map, scenario and campaign design (I love making and playing my own QB maps). It's an amazing game - the frustration is part of the challenge. Just buy it

  26. Now MOD might be merely trimming off a few tanks - and looking to provide private security for Quatar footie games to make a few quid on the side https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54126146 Also near me the Army are flogging off shooting ranges for land for housing to put proceeds into kitty to pay for stuff. https://www.forces.net/services/tri-service/mod-raise-ps225m-selling-military-sites

  33. I'd like to know this too. To me, this is the biggest benefit to having the game on Steam as the current process is a royal PITA. I see the prices have been discounted here enough now that it may entice me to buy at least one of the modules. Seems there's no benefit to getting the bundle as the price is the same now. Will the bundle be available on Steam at some point?
