tech help: missing text/fonts!

hey all. long time CMBB fan here. played for years. recently, I went back to the game and when started up, everything works fine, game starts, except there are no text/fonts in any of the game menus/screens!

it's really wierd, as if some file got corrupted or something. game's been modified only to the extent of new trees, maps, tank skins, etc. been that way for a long time and worked fine.

any ideas? thanks in advance!!!

This is an issue primarily with ATI/AMD Radeon video cards. There is an imperfect work-around that involves downloading some replacement bitmaps for the text so that the text appears as yellow-on-black rather than yellow-on-white (which is how the Radeon video drivers are rendering the text that should be on a 'transparent' background).

Here's our Knowledgebase article on the missing text. There's a download link within the text that is a bit hard to see. This should be an FTP download of a .zip file with the replacement bitmaps.

Follow the instructions in the readme of the 'Radeon_Text_Fix' on which files to replace.

Ironically, the alt-tab solution now works for me. thank you for the response. I was relieved to get some answers!

Ah... yes, I keep forgetting that there is an issue with the menu text disappearing and the 'Alt-Tab' and re-maximizing is pretty much the only way to get it to reappear. The 'Radeon_Text_Fix' comes into play pretty much ONLY for the 3D game's text; it basically doesn't affect the missing text within the menus and initial screens of CMBB.
