Why am I getting this error message?

Recommended Posts

I try to start SC2/WAW and I get this message..."Could not find Bitmaps/Strength_Values_Sprites.bmp". I assume this is a file that for some unknown reason now isnt where its supposed to be. But I un-licensed both the games and re-installed them and I still get this message. I dont get this message when I start SC2, only WAW. Do I need to do a complete un-install? I just ran the installer from the "Run" command on the desktop for BOTH SC2 and WAW. Wouldnt that have re-installed any missing files?

Hi Pcpilot,

To be honest I am not sure at all why you would be receiving this error message and it is the first I've heard of it.

Can you check and see if it is indeed missing that file in the appropriate 'Bitmaps' folder for your installation? To do this you would have to navigate to your WaW installation directory and then to the Bitmaps folder.

If you are missing it, you can download it from here and then paste it into your Bitmaps folder as needed and that should fix the issue for you.

Hubert, thank you for the reply. I replaced the missing bmp file and now Im getting an error message stating..."Localization.txt: Could not find #SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_3=". What the heck is going on here? The game worked fine for the longest time. Now all of a sudden this shows up. I completely un-installed it, then re-installed and still this message. WIERD!!! My computer Specs are:

AMD Phenom II X4 965

ASUS M479XTD EVO

4 X DDR3 1600 RAM

Radeon 5670 with 1GB DDR5

I recently added the cpu and RAM, re-installed windowsXP with SP3 so everything is a fresh install. Any suggestions? What is this text associated with?

I can only find that specific string in WAW's 'localization.txt' file (not in SC2 Blitzkrieg's). Here are the related strings to that setting:

; GAME (Settings Dialog)

#SETTINGS_MENU= SETTINGS

#SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_1= Click to accept settings

#SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_2= Full Screen

#SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_3= Video Acceleration

#SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_4= Sound/Music

#SETTINGS_MENU_TEXT_5= Button Tips

That particular setting is the 'Video Acceleration' one.

I assume that the uninstall and reinstall was of both SC2 Blitzkrieg and the WAW expansion, is that correct ?

I feel like such an idiot...I just found out the problem. I indeed un-installed everything and re-installed it. But when I added the patches, I was only adding the 1.06a hotfix and not adding the 1.06 patch itself first. I didnt realize the 1.06 patch had somehow disapeared off my computer. How the hotfix caused these error messages I dont know. But when I re-downloaded the 1.06 patch and installed it, then the hotfix, everything now works. Geeze...all this hassle because I somehow lost the original patch. Thank you for taking the time to reply and sorry for wasting you and Huberts' time...my apologies.
