Why no Pacific Theater Combat Mission?

The CMx1 series was getting a bit "long in the tooth" and the developers never really got around to all the possible planned games. By the time CMAK had come out they were pretty frustrated with the code and the sales of the series had declined significantly (which was expected). Thus they started work on a new engine, of which CMSF is the first incarnation.

Steve has admitted in the past that he didn't have a whole lot of desire to develop a game based on the Pacific war. It really wasn't in his interests (personally) and he probably thought that the sales of an assault-oriented, primarily infantry game wouldn't be as good as those with significant armor in them. Of course many people disagree and there are different theaters within the Pacific war that were tactically different from the island-hopping campaigns so many Americans are familiar with. Still, the desire wasn't really there to develop a game based on the Pacific war.

One thing to note with the mods. They will give you a different graphical feel, but they will NOT modify the underlying characteristics of what you're working with. A Japanese Type 99 machine gun is going to have an unrealistic rate of fire AND be shooting a heavier round than it did in reality since the mod will replace a MG34/42 with the Type 99, etc. So the mods will give you the graphical appearance, but will lack quite a few other things to make it much more accurate.
