Normandy Then & Now

Recommended Posts

I'm not a huge fan of the reconstructed sharpshooter's pit. I was at the battlefield in Petersburg a few years ago, and they did something similar with the tunnel entrance at The Crater. It made it look hokey. I also dig the omnipresent parking lot that appears in a few photos. Lord knows tourists can't be arsed to walk.

With those excellent period photos of the Devil's Den to use as reference material, the Park Service could have done a much better job of recreating the period feel to the site. As it is, it looks like its ready for a tea service and some potted plants along that perfectly straight stone barricade. That's what you get for hiring "decorators" rather than "historians" to do your site planning, I guess.
