Is it time to start a sub-forum for CM:N?

Recommended Posts

Nevermind Slug... CM:N is Combat Mission Normandy, wich will be CMSF engine in Normandy setting WWII. and last days theres been a hype about it so yes indeed, we need a subforum for CM:N so I dont have to go to a CMSF forum to find topics about trenches in next gameversion I dont care about yet.

'N' stands for Normandy, the next new 'title', as opposed to a 'module' for CMSF.

But there isn't really anything to talk about except for that single screenshot of a Tiger I! BFC let the CMSF board churn away for more than a year with scarcely any info to share, the chat board wound up running on little more than the fantasies of posters. And its my opinion all that built-up fantasy had the result of biting them in the behind when the game was finally released. The game could never have lived up to the towerig cloud castles built by the board beforehand.

...(hell, even its name is still a mystery)...

This brings up a point that has been on my mind for a few days now, albeit a minor one. Is Combat Mission: Normandy going to be the official name of the new game, or is it just a place holder until an official name has been allotted?

I'm pretty much sure that it's not the real name, just like CM:WW2 and what ever pet names people have used in the past. Besides, it'd be somewhat misleading for a game that stretches to Autumn. Then again, so was Afrika Korps for a game that started with Crete and ended in Italy...

The game could never have lived up to the towering cloud castles built by the board beforehand.

Id like to add this to that statement:

'On release the game was so dire that it wouldnt have lived up to my 88 year old grannies extremely low expectation'

I cant see how the release debacle of CMSF had anything to do with the Forum chatter beforehand. But thats off-topic I suppose.

As to the question about opening another forum. Thats double edged as well. On the one hand it would be nice to keep the SF forum free of all the CMN threads. On the other hand, these threads seem to be the most popular, so opening a CMN Forum could lead to the CMSF one being as popular as the Combat Mission Campaigns one.

Traditionally we try to keep discussion in one spot for as long as possible. Obviously there is always more excitement/discussion about what is to come next since it's the spot where new ground is being broken instead of the old ground being recovered. Yet it is the ones who are playing CM:SF right now that have the most relevance for discussing those new things yet-to-come. Those who took a pass on the game, for whatever reason, don't have much to contribute so there's no reason to split the discussion off from Shock Force *yet*. That time will eventually come.

As for the name, no... CM: Normandy will not be the release name. The actual name is chosen (long ago, actually), but it's not time to reveal it yet.

GSX, how lovely to see you back AGAIN after saying you can't be bothered to waste your time here. Not surprising to see that you're still wound up.

Steve

Hey I said I wouldnt be commenting on CMN in any negative way here until Ive seen it in the flesh. I didnt say I wouldnt be commenting on SF, a game that I like to play.

Youve pretty much fixed SF for me, apart from a few things it plays quite well. I think you might be fixating on some of my negative comments Steve and labelling me a doomsayer becuase of them, when in fact on many boards I spread the SF word. I created the only SF competition out there so far, had a big hand in creating the only competetive ladder out there and have persuaded more than a few guys to get SF. I am currently playing 12 PBEM games without any problems.

Now when someone comes along and says SF got a bad reception because we exected the Moon and Stars, then thats plain hokum and I think I should refute it. The game now as I said is good and I enjoy playing it. If you want me to withdraw from the forum because of a little bit of what I think is honesty about the game, then all you have to do is ask instead of branding me an Agent provocoteur.

Cheers

GSX, please note that you have received the Infraction from me, not Steve. We're easily distinguishable. For example, I have much more hair on top of my head (although it's much more grey) :)

The Infraction is not a sign to withdraw from the forum at all. If we'd want that we don't have to ask you (or anyone else), we can ban. The Infraction you have received is a fairly gentle reminder (without any negative implications as such) that you have reached a certain line. Infractions are public, because we want a track record that is transparent for others.

The Infraction has nothing to do with being positive or negative in your opinions towards one game or another. It has everything to do with how serious you take that opinion. An Agent Provocateur takes it way too serious and rides it out at any opportunity that he feels presented to him. The fact that you think you should refute anything is a good sign of taking things that have nothing to do with you way too seriously.

Your post that earned you the infraction has nothing to do with the topic of this thread and is loaded with an agenda that is barely disguised. It comes with a backlog of previous history, too.

I have therefore given you that infraction this morning without even talking to Steve or the other admins.

Moon, youve stated pretty much where you think I stand and what kind of posts I should or shouldnt make, and that I have an agenda (one that even I dont know about it seems).

So I think I really will take my 'hate filled rage' somewhere else for a bit.

I cannot belief that you just wrote that, right? Please, just tell me, you left the screen open and your little nephew took the occasion to ruin your marketing and public relations.

McAuliffe.

You'll find it makes much more sense if you read Steve's entire statement. CMSF is a completely new game and the WW2 module will evolve from this new game engine rather than the CXMx1 series of games. Therefore it follows that those who have the most to contribute to the discussion are those who have played CMSF AND perhaps having some of the CMx1 series of games would make their opinions even more valuable.

You don't have to pay for anything to acquire some experience of this new engine either. Just download the demo and give it a spin and then you'll have some idea of what the game engine is capable of.

That is of course your choice.

Since you put 'hate filled rage' into quoting marks: You're not quoting me. You're quoting either someone else, or yourself.

What posts you're to make or not to make is dictated by forum rules as well as common sense. It is my job as forum admin to remind you (and everyone else) of that. I have explained my reasoning for your Infraction above, and that's that.

The most immediate thing that comes to mind is the list someone came up with of new features they'd like to see in CM:N, close to half of which are already in CM:SF! Seriously, even if warfare ended in 1945 for you, just download the demo and play for a bit.

Such a seemingly innocent thread too...

Yeah, it is kind of funny. Since I am one who chose to pass on CM:SF for one reason or another, I don't frequent these threads much. I must say that the overall demeanor here is certainly lacking. Tsk, tsk. ;) You guys have been sharing the same bunker way too long.

For a game that hasn't been "officially" announced yet, there sure is a lot of discussion about it and prompt attention from the developers. Thanks for that, it is appreciated.

I wear my infractions like a badge of honor. It makes me feel like a real bad-a$$. Well, not really, ok I'm not telling the truth. I like it when Moon gives me a gentle spanking. It makes me feel so special. :D

Oh and yeah, looking forward to the new forum and game. I demand you guys release more screenshots along with the official name this weekend. After doing so, you must give me all the credit for making it happen.

Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it. :P
