JasonC
Sure, I looked at these extensively when working in CM scenarios and such. Check out my Ponyri campaign scenario pack (north face) if you want to see my CMBB "read" on the real terrain types up there. Wide fields by CM standards, until you get into the town areas.

JasonC
The log bunkers are not so easy to spot against the dawn away from sun light. It takes quite a few "eyes up" to see them, actually, even after they open fire. Once they are spotted, it isn't so hard for KVs to take them out - but those have to be willing to expose themselves to the PAK to do so, most of the time. If they are staying low, instead, it can take quite some time for ATRs to silence the bunkers. Also, to get LOS the KVs need to crest, which not only means braving PAK, it also means crossing the forward AT mine belt. Meant to be historical and paper scissors rock. The log bunkers are the incentive for the KVs to lead, and the defense is meant to show the dangers in that, which mattered historically. (60 KVs were knocked out on the first day, by Rendulic's well prepared defenses).

JasonC
Sure, that map is designed for head to head or Russian AI. For German AI, it would be best to remove the front flag and just reduce the German bonus 100 points, thereby effectively awarding it to the Russians in all cases. With a Russian AI, it needs it to orient the attack...
