Alternative hotkeys file

Recommended Posts

I've created a hotkeys file that a lot of players find quite intuitive. It is very similar to the keys used in CM1 in that most functions are tied to a letter that makes sense - to me at least.

They don't have every command bound - some you need to select from the menu. And they don't have the camera bound specifically bound - I just use the mouse to look around.

If this sounds like how you play and you fancy giving these a go:-

  • go to the "Data" folder in the game installation
  • backup your current "hotkeys.txt" to some name like "original_hotkeys.txt"
  • download the file from here by right-clicking the link and choosing "save file as", then saving it
  • put the downloaded file in your "Data" folder
  • re-start CM.

(If you don't like them after all delete "hotkeys.txt" and re-rename "original_hotkeys.txt" to "hotkeys.txt".)

Here's a list of the commands and what they do:

F - move fast

Q - move quick

M - move normal

S - move slow

H - move hunt

A - move assault

R - move reverse

B - blast

N - mark mines

T - target

Y - target light

V - target arc

O - face

D - deploy

P - pause

U - hide

L - dismount

B - bail out

- - vehicle open up

I - pop smoke

G - acquire

Hope you get some use out of them.

Updated to 1.20...although I can't remember making any changes it doesn't crash the game so it must be right.

No, but you know "delete" has always worked - right?

I was not aware of that, but that actually sounds familiar. Must of forgot all about that, thanks for the reminder. :)

Note that you're missing the "target smoke" binding - looking at the v1.2 demo, it seems like it goes between the "face" and the "deploy" bindings. So it would seem that all of your bindings below "deploy" are in fact off by one row.

So can we now finally bind the "clear target" button?

It might be just the demo, but the "clear target" bind-spot is still marked as "NOT USED"

Narp. It's one I don't use much so I leave it to the normal UI.

Yarp. But as ever, you can use "delete" to clear a target.

Yeah, it just ain't working. Bummer! My fingers can't fly over these commands. I got the keys bound but it won't lose the camera controls. So like even though it says Q = Quick

the Q is still bound to the camera... in fact all those letter keys are still bound to camera.

Tomorrow i'll be in cape cod sunning sans wargames till monday.

just curious why it's working for you but not me.

I'm boot camping it but can't see why that would make any difference for a .txt with hotkey swaps. any other complaints (past your update) on this?
