Romulus
Has anyone tried to run Combat Mission on a virtualized system? I was considering the idea of using Qemu on my Debian GNU/Linux laptop in order to virtualize a WinXP system so I was wondering what kind of performance I can expect. The hardware consist of an Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 CPU, 2 GB of RAM and Nvidia GeForce 8700 GT. Thanks, Romulus
Romulus
Okay, I leave an update just in case someone tries doing the same. The install process, so as the patch one, ran smooth. Nevertheless, the game doesn't start and an error message appears: "A debugger has been detected. Unload the debugger and try again". From a quick search on the Internet, it seems something that has to do with the Cirrus emulated video card. To be continued...
Redwolf
Forget it. The old DX5 calls used in CMx1's video startup and mode selection are basically supported nowhere. Even VMware's DX beta is useless. The only emulator, virtual OS or not, to run CMx1 is Cedega's version of Wine.
Romulus
Redwolf, thank you for the clarification. This is a real disappointment: I was pretty sure that a bit of tweaking would have made Combat Mission work under Qemu. Is Cedega a good solution in terms of performance? I mean, is it playable? Thanks again for the help. Romulus
Redwolf
Cedega is playable. I think you lose a bit of graphics quality. Strictly speaking, CMBO runs in Vmware, but only softmode.
