John Kettler
kipanderson, Was trying to find a terrific analysis I saw someplace on the various German defensive methods in the East, culminating in the zonal defense, when the link I posted found me! Glad you like it! Regards, John Kettler
John Kettler
Apparently, we have a scandal over the interview's having been so heavily censored by ARD it changed the meaning and basically became Russia bashing http://www.southossetiaconflict.org/?tag=ard Some background on Thomas Roth, who seems to be a respected reporter--as of the date given. http://schiehallion.blogspot.com/2007/04/our-man-in-moscow-thomas-roth.html There's also this item from DEBKA.com confirming not only that Israel had earmarked two Georgian bases for its Iran strike but that Russia also seized some Israeli long range UAVs, exactly what would be needed to provide real time intel in support of the strike. http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=5559 Regards, John Kettler
John Kettler
The_Red_Rage, Care to try again? The CNN stuff isn't showing Thomas Roth. Believe you crossed up your links. Regards, John Kettler
John Kettler
Georgia has released what it claims are two different South Ossetian border guard mobile (cell) phone calls proving Russian armor was already through the Roka/Roki tunnel and in South Ossetia "many hours" before Georgia opened fire on Tshkinvali. If true, this changes things considerably from the now "received wisdom" of what happened. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D937V7H80&show_article=1 Regards, John Kettler
The_Red_Rage
John, But how reliable are the cell phone recordings? Such things are not even admissable in most Western courts as solid evidence. Besides, there is alot of info missing: how did they intercept the calls? exact time and date of calls? what is the service provider? who owns the service provider? what numbers and who are they registred to? can they pin specific faces to people on either end of the line plus their GPS locations? On one side we have entire North Ossetian and South Ossetian populations stating that tanks did not start moving until late morning/afternoon of Aug.8 We have video recordings of Ossetian general desperately calling for help, we have videos of Georgians having fun in Tshinkvali, we have videos of Georgians massing prior to attack, and now we have Western defense analysts, intel agencies, and even a US senator coming forward and stating that Georgia was the initiator and the attack was definately planned. On another hand, we have cell phone recordings (which Georgians mysteriously held for 3 weeks), which could be made by anyone to anyone. Any intellegence service with half a brain would have flooded the city with its agents before an innvasion of this scale, and making calls like that from South Ossetia is good insurance policy for later... All in all, i take video over audio any day, especially audio from sketchy cell phone calls that could be made by Kermit the Frog to Saaskashvili himself. I think this cell phone interception nonsense is a desparate attept by Saak to get EU support back (Sarkozy started calling Georgian government "Saaskashvili's regime", many other followed... so even a cushy placement at Yale PoliSci department is becoming a distant possibility, especially if all goes well and Obama wins). John Kettler
The_Red_Rage, I don't know whether they're real or fabricated, merely stated that the claim had been asserted by Georgia. My message to you regarding this thread is that you've posted some links which are supposed to depict Thomas Roth's interview of Putin, but the reporter isn't Thomas Roth. Will have a look at your link. Regards, John Kettler
The_Red_Rage
Hmm, i am 100% sure the grey haired man with a mustache conducting the first interview is Roth. http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://bp3.blogger.com/_EYYpuv8NhJk/RjHZbtManFI/AAAAAAAAAAc/CbU8ylmLFZQ/s320/thomas_roth_160h.jpg&imgrefurl=http://schiehallion.blogspot.com/&h=160&w=120&sz=5&hl=en&start=6&sig2=RrOI_WtMOl7nLFBDk2uN9A&um=1&usg=__COjUBLPQChbtcfAOvFjXgR048jA=&tbnid=R1NzaHA7f386fM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=74&ei=1XTQSKDNDIXOggKqxdjxAw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dthomas%2Broth%2Bjournalist%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN His picture is in top left...
John Kettler
The_Red_Rage, The CNN version shows, according to the subtitles, that the interviewer isn't Thomas Roth but Mathew Chance. See for yourself. The Putin interview in the sidebar that has ARD in the title IS Thomas Roth. Regards, John Kettler
The_Red_Rage
John, I provided 6 links, 3 for each interview. One is ARD with Roth, another is CNN with Chance. There is also a small mini-interview with Medvedev (7th link).
John Kettler
The_Red_Rage, Since we were talking about Thomas Roth's interview with Putin, I expected that the links you provided featured him. Was therefore rather surprised to discover Mr. Chance interviewing Putin in the three CNN segments. What I was trying to tell you is that in the sidebar, the ones that say ARD in the titles do, in fact, have him. We seem, though, to be talking past one another. Below are the English subtitled Thomas Roth interview segments with Putin. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Regards, John Kettler
John Kettler
Remember when I was talking about the reopening of Tartus, Syria as a functioning Russian naval base, the deterrent effect that would have, and the gaming possibilities it would create for CM:SF in terms of certain Russian land units likely to be encountered? Not only is it a done deal, but DEBKA reports there are 10 (ten) Russian warships there right now, catching IDF command flatfooted and, apparently, acting as a real damper on those Iran strike plans. http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=5591 Hail the seers of BFC! dima
I haven't seen any reports about this in russian or mainstream western media, so I'd question this report. Something this big would be discussed out there, just like russian bombers in Venezuela.
John Kettler
dima, We did have an earlier report that the Admiral Kuznetsov, the Moskva (Slava class or something else?) several destroyers and a couple of subs were en route there, but then there was conflicting data. I did read yesterday, though, that the Tu-160s were on their return flights to Russia, having no doubt wound the Pentagon War Room up like an old-fashioned watch during their visit.
