Yeah sounds good. Went to Russia myself last summer for a WWII tour. Encountered a few less then noble aspects of the Russian society, but hey no country is perfect. 1C, just make sure to have someone waiting at the airport for the guy. It was hell trying to get to the hotel on our own in Russia. Some of those Taxi Drivers were asking for insane amounts of money to drive us.

Yes, they do, especially from foreigners. Logic: foreigner=tourist=have money for tourism=insanely rich=would pay $$$. When i was returning from trip to Greece last year taxi driver in one of Moscow airports asked 4000 rubles (~150$), and thats from me, not foreigner by any means :D But if you take a bus to nearby subway station taxi prices there drop 8 times.

All airports around the world have the highest taxi prices - something to do with taxis usually have to pay to allow themselves to use the airport.

I have been to Moscow a couple of times, but first time only passing through (on way to Kazakstan), the second there for only one night, but enjoyed it smile.gif

At the risk of sounding like a technological retard, how do you capture video? Without setting a camera in front of the computer, that is, which I imagine would significantly lower audio and video quality.

Other than profanity/nudity (dang, there's goes my Playbay edition of ToW), are all other editing ok of ToW pics/vids ok?

Last question - Is public domain music/soundtrack ok? IE zero copyright issues.

In game video capture;

FRAPS http://www.fraps.com/download.php

or

SNAGIT http://www.techsmith.com/download/snagittrial.asp

Both free, but FRAPS has a limiting fps I think for the demo. I bought both, they are relatively cheap. If you get them and need any help then let me know - snagit can be a bit of a pain to set up.

I used snagit on mine. As for music, I emailed a request to use the track I originally had and they said no, so I made my own track and used that. I would of preferred the original sound though but its about the game - not so much the music. Also, I couldn't capture in-game sounds due to a hardware issue, otherwise I think I would of just used the game sounds themselves.

I can't answer your other questions, but hope this helps a little smile.gif

Public domain is (usually) ok. Editing is ok. Almost anything you produce yourself is ok, in fact. You need video capture software, e.g. Fraps (but there are others), to best capture in-game video.

Normal Dude you can use a capturing software like FRAPS to record what is shown on the screen.

But:

I thought the suffering-through-try-out-capture-edit-and-encode-journey would be at an end after I made the Poland video. But for me it`s not like this way. :-( Fraps encountered problems with my soundhardware. So I tried another two programs, only to see that they were even worse. It took me a while to solve the sound recording issue only to recognize that this nice little FRAPS causes problems in different editing softwares. It puts a sweet code on the files which can cause problems when you want to export the film from the editing software. This means you have to find another converter to transform the AVI files from FRAPS into "normal" AVI files the editing software can handle. For the second part of my little video series I recorded almost 60 GB of scenes only to figure out that the various editing softwares cannot handle the amount of files. But I think in order to get some decent scenes you have to record enough source material. So I have to put a few scenes together to a bigger piece, than two bigger pieces into an even bigger one and so forth. Hope that after all this encoding the result will still be something and not just one blank screen. :)

This does not mean that you necessarily have to encounter the problems I did, but I think the more complex the video is the more problems you will face.

For 2 minutes of game scenes it will do to record it with FRAPS and edit it with Windows Movie Maker afterwards.

Not only music, for 47 seconds of battlefield ambience they really want to have almost 5$? And still you can use that only a few times if at all, because attentive minds might hear directly that it is the same sound file over and over again. :)

Looks like the contest is off to a slow start. Just curious if folks are busy making great videos, or is it simply too much effort? Or is the prize scaring people off? ;) For the record, if somebody doesn't want the trip for whatever reason (scheduling etc.) it can be turned into a cash prize of $1000-$2000 (not sure about the exact value at the moment)...!

I am happy with the current situation smile.gif Although I did not enter the competition expecting to win and was, like others, making videos for fun prior to the competition, it would be a shame to convert the prize to cash, as it imho changes the whole context of the competition, from one of a work of love to that of a work of labour. Having said that, the rules state you can change the rules smile.gif

What if the patch is not out in time Wolf!! smile.gif
