Wierd crashes on start up, - win xp

Recommended Posts

Hi this will sound strange,

ok I started by trying your demo of DT which worked fine to the point that I went back online and bought the full version, which I downloaded and installed with no problems and then played off and on for the next six to seven hours, only closing it down to go make dinner and what ever other jobs I had to do, everytime I came back and started it would work fine, the only other thing I did that day on my pc was watch a DVD, after watching I decided to play a bit more before bed, so I started the game and that's when it crashed,

before it crashes I get the first splash screen the mouse censor changes to game mouse censor, then there's a small wait, then I get the crash window telling me the windows had to close the game because of a fault in dropteammain.exe.

I have made sure that all drivers are up to date, I have switched off everything that starts up on my pc or runs in the back ground, I have uninstalled it and re-installed it to three separate locations on my harddrives,( not at the same time) yet I can not get it to run again, I tried reinstalling the demo version, only it now does the same thing and crashes everytime it starts.

I can not find the log file, I don't think it get's to generate one before it crashes.

I think it has to do with the sound, the only thing I can remember changing in the game options is changing from Generic Software sound to ;NVIDIA® nForce Audio I think this is my problem, but I can't figure out how it's keeping my setting and not going back to default, when I uninstall and delete the folder and clean the registry.

listed below is from the file called dropteam, I don't know if this is the log file you were requesting, but it's the only file that comes close to what you were describing as a log file.

What's with the license and unlicensing, I don't think I unlicensed the game before I unistalled it the first time,( didn't know I had to )

Are my game settings recorded with my license or something like that and are they recorded on my pc or online somewhere?

Everytime I reinstall it's set to the setting I had set with the wrong sound driver setting and I think that's way my DT game and the DT demo keep crashing.

How do I unlicense myself or how can I get my game setting reset to default?

Sorry I can not see a file called update in my drop team folder, I've looked thru all the different folders where my game is installed, also can't see it in the start menu ether, nor did I see it in the unzipped install folder.

is it called something different?

the first time I installed it, it went thru an update without any problems, 2nd, 3rd, 4th time after reinstalling it won't even get that far before it crashes.

I still feel that my problem has something to do with the licensing or my game settings info and not being able to set them back to default.

I think I have a bad sound setting in my game settings, everytime I try to start the game I get a splash screen, the mouse censor changes to the game censor and I believe this is where the game tries to play some music, but can't and crashes.

Thanks to Clay who sent me the solution via email, I'll just post the solution here as well so others who might need it can find it.

You need to delete the file called DropTeamSettings.dat in

your home directory. On Windows XP, this will usually be \Documents

and Settings\YOURUSERNAME. Find the file in there called

DropTeamSettings.dat and delete it, then run the game again. You will

be restored to default values including the sound driver setting.

Great that you solved it- hope you can soon meet us all in our online matches! (3:00 EST on Sundays and 7:30 EST on Wednesdays)

Good one, Phonan. redcap036, nice to see you, and if you have any questions about gameplay, just post in the main DT forum. Welcome, and don't forget what Phonan said about the online matches.
