Yoav
Hi I was browsing GamersGate thinking about getting something new and I saw the CM games. I never tried them but the reviews I read were positive so I thought I'd try one. Which of the three is recommended? Thanks Yoav
Lt Bull
Hi Yoav You seem to have posted in the wrong forum but I will answer you. All three games (CMBO, CMBB, CMAK) all are based on the same game engine and gameplay principle which is the "WEGO" hybrid turn based CMx1 game system. They all are played in exactly the same way, however the later releases could be said to be refinements of the release that came before them, in terms of better "stock" graphics and a few extra enhancements as far as additional features (like a wider range of orders to give your units). However, depending on your interest (eastern front WW2 or western front/mediteranean WW2) you may choose an earlier release like CMBB over the most recent release CMAK. I suggest your first download and try the demos for each and see if the game concept appeals to you. The CMBO demo just happens to feature probably the BEST set of sample scenarios of all three demos, however it certainly probably won't look as good or have the refinienments to the gameplay/orders that CMBB and CMAK have. Apart from giving you an idea of the new commands and terrain types, the CMBB and CMAK demos come with scenarios that I don't personally think fully capture the scope of gameplay possiblilities that exist in the CMx1 series as a whole. Just remember that the graphical look of all three games (including the demos!) can be easily improved by the huge range of user mods available (mainly from here CMMODS ) without it affecting any of the gameplay or compatibility. Also there are an infinite range of scenarios available for you to download all over the web to ensure you have enough variety in the type of battles you play or want to play. The question of "which one" might be a moot point as you could probably just get all three for a price which is probably much less than a standard new release game. If you want help finding a good price, let me know. Hope that helps [ July 30, 2007, 12:12 AM: Message edited by: Lt Bull ]
sross
Actually, get them all!! There is a bundle available , usually for around $20. I picked mine up from NWS online. Probably the best way to go about it.
FinnN
I agree, get the bundle - it's fully patched up and doesn't need the CD in to play. If I remember correctly you also get more scenarios than you do with the original individual games (but that could be my imagination). Have fun Finn
Yoav
Thanks for the replies. The bundle is not available around here, so I'm stuck with DD or shipping (which costs alot). I guess trying the one of the demos first to see if I can get into it is the best way.
Fetchez la Vache
I'd go for CMBB myself. I like KV-2's.
PeterLorre86
I think i recently saw a bundle for 14 dollars on amazon. Even shipping added to that it's still a great deal. Here is the amazon link http://www.amazon.com/CDV-Combat-Mission-Anthology/dp/B000GR004I/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8285873-0700618?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1185855403&sr=8-1 I would suggests either CMBB or CMAK if your only going to get one. Both have noticable inprovements over the original CMBO.
Yoav
OK, last dumb question. I got CMAK and installed it and it's kinda complex. I searched the site and found a PDF manual for CMBB. Is that gonna help me with CMAK, or should I try CMBB instead? Edit: Oh, apparently the CMBB PDF manual link is broken. Never mind.
Lt Bull
I assume you meant to say you installed the demo of CMAK? Sounds like you are going into this "cold". The instructions for play for both should be virtually identical (except for a few minor details). It isn't as complex as you might think. You give orders, watch for 60sec, give orders, watch for 60sec etc. See how you get along with the PDF. Post back if you need some more help.
Fetchez la Vache
I'd download the CMBO demo. Valley of Death was one of those 'special' moments in my life. Pathetic, isn't it?
Yoav
I did install the CMAK, but didn't get the manual since the link is dead. I guess it seems simple for somebody who's been playing this for some time (or who RTFM) but it sure isn't for me.
