securityguard
What happens when you lose transportation equipment? Does your speed get averaged? For example: You have a convoy of half tracks with infantry inside of them. A 81mm strike comes down on them and they lose 3 of the 12 half tracks they started with. You'd have 3 squads moving at 1.0 speed, and 9 moving at 5.8 speed. 3 + 5.8(9) = 55.2 / 12 = 4.6 speed total?
JeF
Interresting question. I'd also like to know how this problem is solved. I can imagine that a group of units move at the speed of it's slowest element. In the above example, the convoy would be at 1.0 speed. Sergei
Hmm. If I had a truck and had to carry two loads of cargo... I would first take the first load, then return, then make the second drive. It would take three times the time. So the speed of my cargo would be 3.0 in average.

Loose 1/3rd of your transport. Drop 1/3rd of the cargo before the end point of the journey. Move that transport back to pick up those that lost transport and moved ahead. Time it so those that lost their cargo and those that left their transport early arrive at the same time. This should only work for vets (maybe some regulars). v. Mellenthin states that complicated maneuvers don't work with green formations (some example in his book, green division in late '43 that gets badly mauled in a maneuver he states vets usually accomplished.) Disclaimer: I don't believe anything he states, but this seems believable. Especially as it is the Corps HQ's (read: partly his own) fault to ignore the fact that the division is green. THe transport elements will move the slowest elements first, thus providing the fastest possible, slowest element. Hunter
Sergei
Oh yes. I was thinking of troops with heavy equipment that can't move by itself.
