Some suggestions for controls

I'd like to suggest first that we have a new button to floor the throttle so you can press that then forward or something like that and instead of slowly graduating to 1.0 you instantly go at 1.0. I've found many situations where I'd benefit from the ability to suddenly jolt forward and get to cover or possibly upset the chassis for more advanced manuvers. Also, the ability to adjust controls or select control profiles in midgame would rock as well.

To explain that I need to get a bit technical. I assume some modding knowledge here ( modding )

The change of the throttle value is defined in the tag 'AccelerationRate'. For hovers and tracked its something around 0.2 which means that you will nearly insttantly floor the pedal. Take a look at the throttle value in gunners view.

After the throttle has reached 1.0 you get the full acceleration of the vehicle. That may be slower than you (and me!) wish it to be but it works out well game balance wise.

Wheeled vehicles are a bit different. There the value is something like 0.004. DT does IMHO not model tire slip very well. So if you raise that value to for instance 0.1 your vehicle will just flip over backwards instead of creating a burnout. Again this works out very well for the game but gives you the feeling that wheels are a bit sluggish.

I suggest you make yourself a small mod with a Paladin KC-L and a Apollo KC-H and start playing around with the values. There are a lot values to play with and its actually quite fun to chase for a good setup. smile.gif

It seems to me that the throttle for keyboards is slow to raise, would I be capable of getting a more responsive throttle on a joystick? If so then a button to make the car skip the slow throttle incrementing and go up to 1.0 instead is what I want. There are situations where hammering the throttle can be a very good thing. Also, having too realistic of a driving model will hurt this game. I'd probably never buy it if I was sliding around every time I went on any terrain that isn't road like in a real car.

I think the 1.0 defines how close it is to it's 'top end'

If you notice, you'll see the throttle peak at 1.0 at the same time that your vehicle hits its maximum speed. (or close to)

I personally think it's good, because, especially with a multi-ton steel beast, you aren't nessicarly gonna be able to jump off the get-go like you can in your car.

I never used a joystick with DT so I don't know if it makes a difference.

Again: hammering the throttle would not yield you a higher acceleration than what you get now. What you miss for the right feeling is wheelspin and flying dirt and thats one of the few things not simulated in DT.

Chilibird: sorry but you are wrong. Test it yourself: take an Apollo in gunner view, watch throttle and speed and press w. Throttle will hit 1.0 long before max speed is reached.
