a last minute change in the tournament contestants! jerseyjohn has stepped down from his contestant spot in order to accomodate an exuberant player who wanted to be in the tourney,

GAVROCK! GAVROK was the next in line for addition to the tourney.

jerseyjohns rough schedule which includes several pbem games, planning the coronation ceremonie for the winner of the tourney, running for mayor...and REAL LIFE caused him to ask me to substitute another player for him in the tournament. this i did.

the contestant e-mail list has been edited, and it's only a few hours until my son takes off his blue hat! be watching for the first round brackets!

Good Luck to everyone and hope you enjoy the scenario. A little reminder that all major countries have unassigned research, so be sure and check that area on Turn One to assign them, otherwise they'll sit there doing nothing.

Kudos to disorder not only for putting this event together, but also for starting what will hopefully become a tradition of PBEM tournaments.

This reminds me of the opening scene from the 1975 version of Rollerball; officials giving everything the final once over, lights, track, etc., while the heavy opening organ chords of Bach's immortal Toccata and Fugue ring out. The fans quickly pack into the arena and cheer as a dignified spokesman in a suit steps away from the microphone and a sportscaster begins talking to the viewing audience.

“Okay, with the delivery of the Opening Invocation by our honored guest, Immer Etwas , the playing area is cleared of photographers and the game is about to get under way. First the firing of the test ball and -- oh no, some lunatic is still walking along the track! It's JerseyJohn rushing across the playing field to his wife. Whoa that was a close one! And he's obviously enjoying the crowd reaction as the heavy metal ball nearly struck and killed him a moment ago. Here's a replay. First a worried hush, then wild laughter when, holding onto his classic bola and ivory cane, he leapt desperately over the shiny lethal sphere, coming down theatrically to segue into a quick dance step, bowing a moment later to amused applause.

"Now he's tucked the ornamental walking stick under his left arm and is continueing at a prudently fast pace to the safety of his trackside box seat. The misses straightens his bowtie while he gives a quick wave of the bola to the still laughing spectators.

"Is there anything that man won't do for a vote?!

"Meanwhile, disorder checks the ball's metered speed, nods, waves the all clear to the legendary Terif who checks it against his stopwatch. The champ gives the thumbs up, receiving roaring cheers from this packed crowd, and the new Tournament begins! Let's listen in as the Public Address announcer reads the opening lineups being drawn by young Charlie from his North Carolina Tarheels cap. . ..”

xwormwood has been asked to fill in for a contestant unable to participate. if you are keeping scorecards, xwormwood replaces GREASE and is now german opponent of TheBlackDouglas.

all games are now officially in progress, and if you listen carefully, you can hear the elctrons zipping about. ;)

oak--

Is it too late for me to join the PBEM tournament? I'd really like to join if I can.
we now have two people on the "replacement" list, which hopefully we will not need again.a replacement will not be needed once both tourney players have sent and received a turn, and i believe all games have passed that point .just in case, though, these two are dessert lancer and oak .

if you dont get a chance to participate in this tourney, be watching to see when(if) we have another. thanks for your enthusiasm and support!

That is one Fantastic picture of Goering, the Angel of Death and Tojo! The guy they've got in chains look's equally unpleasant. :D

All Hail Mighty Rannug of The North!

Two great guys, a shame either of you had to be eliminated.

Better luck next time, Steve.

TERRY(my tourney opponent) said---

Hi,

well i don't care if I win or lose, this is turning out to be the maddest game I've ever played. Is that a world record for ships sunk in one turn or are you goig to set it this turn? You'll have to post to the board about this madness!

rgds

Terry

so i decided to recap some of our first 9 moves.

my germans took poland and denmark on 4, also

had a show of bravado by my german ships feinting toward england which caused one of the smaller british armadas to turn north away from the show of strength on their turn (5).

and then on turn 6, my german carriers,bb's and the whole kit and kaboodle came down to aid in capturing the low countries. low countries captured on turn 6.

on turn 7 allies "congregated" about german navy, destroying most except 2 bb's 1 sub, and a carrier.

on turn 8, i pulled back my wounded carrier toward home port while pounding into flotsam allied carrier and a bb with luftwaffe from denmark. pounded a british bb to 1 in the channel, with my two wounded bb's. i believe the sea battle was about even(or his slight advantage), but terry is right. it was most exciting. with 3 times the amount of stuff to start with, it may prove to be total annihilation for both navies! norway rolled over when german troops landed.

26425246.jpg

butgreece has proved a tough cookie. knocked an army down to "1" twice, and still:

24584587.jpg

italians still facing enemy, and all troops bearing down on the french!

jerseyjohn--

That's the way, an outright brawl! Who needs seven years game time, make it a mass extinction!

My little darling has turned into Rosemary's Baby!

you are much too overprotective of your young scenario mr. jerseyjohn smile.gif

disorder and terry will meet it at recess time behind the old school building, and introduce it to the "finer" things in life! ;)

Disorder

I must bemoan my lot having looked at you and Terry's AAR. My opponent Joe Grills has been very agressive, taking low countries in turn 2, declaring war on Norway, and knocking on the gates of Athens as I speak. The guy is rabid, attacking me all over the board. You'd think we were at war!

Come on Joe.......I'm sure we can discuss this like 2 grown men with funny moustaches, bowler hats, and funny waves.

I'm getting nervous about opening up each subsequent e-mail.......to see what fresh atrocity the Axis Joe BBQ is preparing.

Think Joe got mad and attacked when I suggested we use the UN to discuss Poland! Where's your 2nd resolution Joe?

My good friend disorder

There would be some amongst us that might try and twist your innocent typo into a profound statement regarding certain types of petroleum jellies.

Fortunately, I'm not one of them.

BTW-I wanted to give you kudos on your Tourney, but Jersey John and Immer have used them all up.

So instead I will offer my Congratulations.

Anybody know the telephone number of a good maritime salvage specialist because I'm currently having a few issues regarding the seaworthiness (and size) of my Royal Navy? I can be contacted on extended vacation in Athens!
