John Kettler
It starts at Kustrin (with real footage) and goes from there, following some low level characters at a huge moment in history. The film uses an artful blend of clear (as opposed to the horribly blurry usual stuff) historic footage and what was done for the movie, has a staggering array of weaponry, including some that never quite made it. Ref that, there's superb footage of the T-44, first introduced in November of 1944 but never made it into battle. On display is everything from small arms through the mighty B4 howitzer, Katyusha, light armor and tanks. As an appetite whetter, there's an unmistakable close range shot of a real Panther Turm defensive position in Berlin. That's at 58:50 or so. Film is Russian only, but you'll be able to follow the action even if you don't speak it. Be advised there are considerable non-combat scenes involving mostly senior officers controlling their portions of the action.
