Battle of Leros and the Aegean campaign

Recommended Posts

I'm reading a book about the Aegean campaign of 1943. Who knew that in late 1943 the Germans conducted successful airborne operation and defeated the British thanks to... the air superiority...

I'm posting it here to encourage the modders to look at this campaign. It would fit perfectly into the CMFI scope.

There was a scenario done for the Crete landing already for CMFI. I played one against @Broadsword56a while back that was pretty fun.

The Gamers had a tactical combat series game on the Battle for Leros with some interesting info.

What was it called? Can't remember seeing one and couldn't find one at TSDIII.

I read that several years ago. Very interesting coverage of a little-known battle. Strongly recommended for those with an insatiable interest in all facets of the North African or Mediterranean Campaigns.

Interesting.. I just ordered this book.  Will read it and whip out a Scenario after I finish reading the book.  Never done any Campaigns but I can at least do a really good scenario.  Want to get all the accurate details and such.  Will post again when finished.  LOL probably in a month or two.

I've looked into this too and got one map done and it would make a cracking campaign with a bit of historical licence - I don't think there's much need to Mod for this one but you have to live with the fact that you can't pick Italians after September 1943 so if you want them as co-belligerents then you have to use a scenario date selection that does not reflect the actual date. Here are some interweb research links that I delved into while thinking about doing this as a campaign:

Just got my book.  Will now read and look over a lot of materials.  I will at the end of my read put together a Scenario.  Never done any Campaigns so I will leave that to the experts.  :)  Will post when I have completed the read and submit where about the Scenario will be related and with what units.

James.

You can pick your Italians at an incorrect date, save them along with your Germans as a core file in the same way you would for a campaign and then import it into a scenario set to the correct date.  B)

+1  Nice tip.

If I recall, you can probably purchase the Italian units at the date available, then reset the date to the intended one, and purchase the rest of the forces. I don't recall ever needing to save as a core file.

That may be one less step, or proof my memory is out of room.

+1  That's right.  I forgot about this.  I just double checked and this worked.  It is also much simpler.  :)

I was never sure if the TOE would update to the new date setting in the scenario and TBH, I just like making unit cores......Either way it can be done.  ;)

CM is incredibly flexible, especially if you come at it from an odd 'angle of attack', the things I've watched @MOS:96B2P & @37mm do to it in recent months have really blown me away, it's just staggering what can be done.....Best PC wargames in the world, bar none, IMHO.  B)
