slippy
Hi all. I'm off to the Ardennes for a battlefield tour in early July. Probably have time to get a few books in before then, so what would you all recommend please? Nearly finished Anthony Beevors Ardennes 1944, and have Charles Macdonalds The battle Of The Bulge. Cheers
jtsjc1
The Bitter Woods by John S.D. Eisenhower and Snow And Steel by Peter Caddick-Adams are 2 excellent ones I've read. There's plenty more but those will keep you busy!
Kaunitz
Are you just looking for historical narratives or also first hand accounts? There are some eyewitness accounts that feature a chapter on the Battle of the Bulge (of course often it's not more than a few pages...) available relatively cheaply via kindle. E.g. William F. Meller, Bloody Roads to Germany Michael C. Bilder, A Foot Soldier for Patton George Wilson, If You Survive
slippy
Thanks Gents. I like both personal narratives and the overall picture. I suppose if going on a tour I am better off having a good overall view.
Warts 'n' all
Make sure that you take one of Tim Webb's Belgian Beer Guides.
danfrodo
Charles MacDonald's book was the best I have read, though Anthony Beevor's recent was also very good. MacDonald was a company commander at the bulge (see his book Company Commander) and wrote a number of very good books on WW2.

slippy
I'm halfway through Anthony Beevors book now, and really enjoying it. The itinerary for the tour is:- day 1 and 2 - following the route of Kampfgruppe Peiper day 3 - Malmedy massacre day 4 - British 30 Corps operations Does anyone know of any good maps or atlases showing day to day troop positions? When reading i like to refer to a map to see where exactly everything is cheers slipper
