cmsf2 custom intro

Recommended Posts

Hello cm community,

I was just testing if the cm intro video supports different video sizes and lengths and created a custom intro about us troops. It is really nothing special and just work of some minutes but I thought perhaps somebody likes it.You still can click it away. Download: https://www36.zippyshare.com/v/bcmsshwn/file.html

Instructions:

1) backup original intro.wmv in combat mission shock force 2/data folder

2) unzip, place custom intro.wmv in same place

3) to remove... you can guess it

Very interesting - but plz upload to CMMODS.  This site is very confusing (deliberately I bet).

Could not figure out which d/l button to press and I tried downloading this 3 times and kept clicking on the wrong button.  Heaven only knows what has been downloading.  Hope my anti virus and ad blockers kept me safe.  Very scary.

True, things like AdBlocker and NoScript can really help protect you from dl'ing harmful stuff but a better idea is just do not go to those sites at all. Come on people its the 21st century here hosting your own web site is cheap, DropBox, Google Drive and OneDrive all have free options.

For me there is just a big orange *Download Now* Button with a arrow pointing down beside it in the upper right corner. I don´t see other download buttons.

When I click on that button I get a "MEGA MUSIC SEARCH" window...  with "Accept and Add" so it can do some other stuff to my system.  Who on earth would do that?

I thought it is common sense that people use adblockers, especially on free filehosting sites.

Anyways thanks to @mjkerner who kindly provided me with euroscape mod pack, I indeed registered to dropbox now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v7uj7mvw14n796n/cmsf2 intro.rar?dl=0

White download button, upper right corner 😉

Sigh … roll on two years time when someone asks where they can get this mod. Put it on the BFC recommended site which is here:

http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/

Yes you have to register as an author but once you've done that there are no dramas and there are no crazy flashing 'click here' 'download now' buttons or any of that nonsense and most people here seem to trust it.

I can’t. All attempts to upload anything at CMMODs are rejected for some reason. I had to get Bootie to upload my USMC mod, and I don’t want to keep pestering him. I have scores of CMx1 mods that are gonna sit on my HD until WordPress or whatever is the problem there gets fixed. Just doing strigoi a favor in the interim.

There's a undetermined limit on upload size now at CMMODSIII, files bigger than 90 Mb-ish don't go through as it appears from recent test. As far as I know, the solution would be to upload through FTP but only @GreenAsJade can, again as far as I know.

Thank you for sharing Strigoi by the way. ;)

I do not even consider it as real mod but just an experiment to test what videos combat mission intro can play. Looks like there are no restrictions which means a campaign maker theoretically can use the intro.wmv for his means (video campaign briefing, situational report on war etc.) in order to provide player with further background which is good.

But when I will do real mod I will consider uploading to cmmods.

Yes, there is a video or audio intros for example in the Twilight 2000 mod, and for CMSF1.  The CMSF1 intro mod doesn't seem to work in CMSF2 unfortunately.  It stops the generic BF intro from playing, but the mod itself doesn't run.  One goes immediately to the start (scenario selection) screen.

Good thinking there.

What video sizes and lengths have you been able to test out so far?

To be honest didn´t test length any further than what I would have in mind for a campaign video briefing but was more interested if you can go bigger picture than the battlefront logo as most probably wouldn´t like to watch video in small box. I tested up to 1080p resolution of my monitor which CM then successfully displayed filling the complete screen.

For the file you can download here I did just go for 720p because source material was not good enough and it would have become too pixelated.

Thanks for the details Strigoi.

I'm wondering if the video could be launched at another moment than at game launch, and I guess that since it's at game start tags wouldn't work.

Still, great potential you uncovered there dear mate.

Initially I wanted to suggest to bf devs that when not with too much work involved, it would be cool when video files in "campaigns" directory or with modtag could be played on other occassions than game start, at least wenn starting campaign in menu and at best before campaign end screen. Not talking about bf wasting dev time on movies but would be great option for campaign makers. At least for me something like this is one level one step to atmosphere. But I dropped suggestion because I thought there not much interest and we already can use intro.wmv .
