Red Thunder or Fortress Italy?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I played this game for many years, but i have been occupied with CMSF, CMBN etc.
I just love it and i want the last two in my CM library, but... the pros and cons with CMRT and CMFI, i need help to make a good choice for this month.
Do FI have Monte Casino?
Do RT have good winter maps/mods.

All in all, in your opinion, would you recommend FI or RT? (i will buy both, but for this month, should i go -20c as in Sweden or should i go a hot Italian..ehrm..pizza! :D

RT hasn't hit winter yet, that's coming in a module sometime this year. There are mods for winter but they are cosmetic only.

FI can do Casino but the full forces that were involved (French) are coming in a module some time this year. FI does have winter settings.

It all boils down to if you want more Western Allied forces or something more exotic like the Russians?

FI provides more content with the Gustav module.

My vote would be for CMFI+GL bundle as it will allow you to do Monte Cassino and winter battles. The only thing it is missing off your list is Russians.😀

The upcoming Rome to Victory module will add the Free French troops and many others, extend the timeline of the game from July 43 to May 45, the longest timeline of any CM game. There are so many unique vehicles and units in CMFI, it is my favourite game in the series.

I would wait to buy Red Thunder until the new module for it comes out. This bundle will give you the winter battles on the East Front you are after.

Honestly, I would wait for the Rome to Victory Module, then buy whatever big bundle is sold for CM:FI.

Think about what you just said, particularly, this part "I would wait for the Rome to Victory Module" Now, tell me why that isn't a good idea! LOL. You crazy, you!

If my time here on Battlefront has given me one thing, it is an unmeasurable amount of patience, and more than enough experience using it.

All good things come to those who wait.

Yes! Exactly the reason he should buy what's already there! Who knows how many months/years we have left on that fabled module!

But, I am just teasin' you, General Jack Ripper SLIM! I still love ya, man!

Both in-game and out!  I have been waiting for games/modules/packs for almost 20 years.  In-game, however, I still make my "move" about 1 minute before I should...

Before you hit the red button, have a quick tab through all your units and ask yourself, "Do I REALLY want to do this?"
If the answer is "No" then doing nothing is preferable to doing something.

Which game depends on what you like... For me it is RT  Armor? Huge sized battles? Lots of infantry?  Hills?. Nothing wrong with FI.   But over all RT for me.  Even with in the context of the game, I do not feel limited. Still  I am looking forward to the next products on FI  and RT.  Well look again at FI

Good advice.  There is always the temptation to keep every unit "doing something".  In CM2 there are frequently periods of time where one simply has to wait several turns for some other action to be completed - and that can be frustrating (for those of us who are impatient for "action").

The other lesson is that one should, if at all possible, not "stand and die".  If you find units in bad situations it's almost always better to FAST move them to safety and NOT try and fight it out while bringing up reinforcements (ie don't reinforce failure piecemeal).

I am not going to not buy the FI stuff, but I am really waiting for RT, specifically early war RT - whenever that happens.

I took a look at my orders and the last time I sent Battlefront money was for the CMFI upgrade bundle...back in October of '17.  My wallet is very itchy.

Early war RT is a long way off (and it'll be a standalone title when it does happen). The bulk of BFC's standing models are late war so the further back in time they go the more models they'd need to make from scratch. A jump back to Kursk '43 would mean needing to build a few new models. A jump back to Stalingrad '42 would mean they'd need to build most of the models. A jump back to Barbarossa '41 would mean they need to build almost all of the necessary models. BFC is currently scheduled to push all three of its WWII titles up to VE Day.
