Want to see some real WW2, WW 1, ACW, ARW goodies?

Recommended Posts

There is an outfit called Dan Morphy Auctions which is a fabulous resource for the above. One of the goodies is a GJ officer's uniform, complete mit Edelweiss. but there are  SS, DAK and more, and by no means just for the Germans. How about a 1942 British Halifax bombing raid poster, an RAF officer's uniform with Canadian flashes, hats from Jimmy Doolittle, bayonets, kits, boxes, docs, etc.? The scope and scale astound, but my favorite item is a period American Revolution letter from the quartermaster in Morristown, NJ informing the supply HQ in Hanover, PA there is no hay at all, despite promises, and that if he doesn't get some, he's going to have to disperse the militia!  Sure, we here in the States were told how bad things got, but there's the handwritten contemporary proof. If you'd like a really impressive M3 halftrack, you'd best get over to the site liveauctioneers (.usual) and bid. You've got three (3) days left.

I know that the Waffenfarbe (weapon color, but really branch color) for the Panzer troops was pink, but I wonder who thought that was a good idea? Not exactly soiling myself over this getup, though the shape it's in is phenomenal. The color combo of anthracite gray and pink looks like athleisure wear for those of a feminine bent. Another from Dan Morphy Auctions, an outfit which properly describes its offerings! Some put the coolest things up, provide an all but useless description and list practically everything as unauthenticated. Sloppy, lazy and not a confidence builder for prospective bidders.

You'd need to check if "pink" was identified with feminine tastes in those days.  A lot of that sort of gender-based stuff was created by post war marketing departments.

Yes. During the '50s pink suddenly became identified with the hot new sex symbols coming out of the movie industry: Marilyn Monroe, Jane Mansfield, Brigitte Bardot, to name just three of the most famous of that era.

Interesting but this thread does not belong here in my view - where is the connection to Combat Mission?

Forum conflation or broken mouse scroll wheel - maybe both.  The CMx2 general discussion forum at the top of the Forums landing page is regularly confused with the Battlefront general discussion forum at the bottom of the landing page.  <Sign> Unfortunately, not the first time and won't be the last.  :(

They did put a pink triangle on the gays in the  KZ camps though.

It was used for all people whom the Nazis considered to be sex offenders, including heterosexual male rapists.

According to the wiki, the category was primarily homosexuals though.

Another clue that pink was associated with feminine traits back then (at least in the US) could be Daisy Duck, who first appeared in 1940:
