user1000 56 Posted July 12, 2017 The gun on the this AA vehicle can lower right to the ground bypassing the hull and tracks, it looks ridiculous.
Combatintman 768 Posted July 15, 2017 So not a huge bug then.
LukeFF 281 Posted July 16, 2017 Screenshots would help...
sburke 1,805 Posted July 16, 2017 I am guessing one found that out by putting it into an awkward situation.
Combatintman 768 Posted July 18, 2017 A week now .... can't have been a huge bug at all.
Sgt.Squarehead 906 Posted July 18, 2017 You'll give the poor boy 'depression issues'. (I know, I know.....I'll get me coat! )

Sgt.Squarehead 906 Posted July 19, 2017 Really not that huge an issue is it?

The likelihood of this situation occurring is pretty low. The game still runs. As a result, unless you are tabloid newspaper journalist, it is not a huge bug. It is certainly a bug.
Fizou 30 Posted July 20, 2017 The animation should probably not be this way, but for AI reasons the vehicles need to have no restrictions for their elevation of weapons.

This is a known limitation of the CMx2 engine. To mitigate it, BFC introduced a patch a while ago that makes it harder for close range armour to spot targets near bye.
Sgt.Squarehead 906 Posted July 20, 2017 Definitely closer to an Ant than a Rhino Beetle.

If elevation / depression were limited to true up/down angles then its straightforward for a human player to move vehicles to allowable firing positions, however the AI doesn't have the same smarts to make similar adjustments. IanL 1,461 Posted July 20, 2017 ^^^ Very true. The way the game implements the firing below or above the elevation that is physically possible is to limit the model's gun traverse to the actual limits but fire the projectiles at whatever angle is needed. So this example of the gun barrels going low enough pass into the chassis to engage the target is not the intended behaviour. That part is a bug. But it is a very, very minor one.
MikeyD 816 Posted July 20, 2017 Its not a bug but a known game engine limitation. I doubt the Mobelwagon fired on the close-assaulting troops, unless they sat there for two+ minutes.
Sgt.Squarehead 906 Posted July 20, 2017 Mortars are the best fix for Mobelwagens, semi-deployed their superstructure acts like a catcher's-mitt!
user1000 56 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Let's look at this in the eyes of players, playing a very close to historically accurate game. Gun elevation is an AI cheat / not historically accurate... Yes it does fire even at that angle. All they have to do is limit the down elevation on that gun. Easy fix for a bug. There is also a need for the crew to return fire with pistols in vehicles this close. They just sit like rag dolls without bailing or returning fire.
