textanker
I want to be able to build custom units at the squad and team level. (Think a whole squad armed with STG44s!). Is there a way to do this? Thanks

Xorg_Xalargsky
@textanker Unfortunately, there exists no such thing as a "unit builder", TO&E is not moddable either. However, almost every country has a varied array of infantry squads. There are in fact a couple of options if you want all a lot of MP44's. Volksgrenadier (Wehrmacht infantry) and Sturmartillerie (Wehrmacht/Waffen SS armor) formations have some infantry squads armed with a very high proportion of MP44's if their equipment quality is increased.

Holman
There is no unit editor in the scenario editor as such. You can't put particular weapons into the hands of particular soldiers. However, it is possible to customize to a limited extent. All of a unit's stats (experience, morale, etc) can be tweaked, and in some cases it's possible to manually decide which squads have special equipment. (For instance, you can choose which squads in a pioneer platoon actually have a flamethrower or which gun teams have which model of AT gun.) Overall, picking the quality of a unit's TO&E will affect how well-armed and supplied it is, but it's not possible to pick everything. Above the level of individual squads and vehicles, however, you can mix and match. You can easily take an infantry battalion and decide which of its platoons are at full strength and which are missing squads. You can create a tank platoon that is all Panther G's or instead create one that is a mix of Panther G, Panther V, and Panzer IV's, etc.
c3k
One of the German Volksgrenadier platoons is armed with all MP44s. (Or, rather, one squad in a platoon is so-armed.) You can purchase several battalions and just delete all the non-all-MP44 squads (you can tune your forces by the squad/team/vehicle, but not below that level). Play with the editor. It is a very powerful tool once you get the hang of it.

As soon as I did I remembered that most of the people on this forum have probably been playing wargames longer than me, so I am the one that looks foolish @all - Thanks for everyone's great help.

Glubokii Boy
The unit editor is the best part in the scenario designer imo. It is cleverly designed, user friendly and very flexible. The designer have great freedome (above squad/ team level) to design the opposing forces to look just the way he likes them. Pretty much anything is possible and to have historically correct formations to start with that can be tweaked by the designer is a big help. Good design decition by BFC to do it this way. There's always room for improvements but with the unit editor they have done a great jobb !
