The British 43rd Recce is pushing deeper inland towards Falaise, ahead of the 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division. After a long advance through the Norman countryside all morning, suddenly the drowsy heat of noon is split by the sharp crack of a rifle. It is immediately followed by a loud crash as the lead jeep speeds out of control and smashes into something up ahead.
