<Snip>  are you comfortable with your timelines though?

Well, I thought I was until Major Combatintman from the Battalion TOC started breathing down my neck about it!! :D :)

Hmmm, time is a little tight depending on what type of tactical problems the maneuver platoons may still have to deal with on the way to BP T148.

I have four second lieutenants out there maneuvering ........................

Captain Anglen just headed out from PB Rushdi Mullah with his HQ team to light a fire under their a$$es.

At approximately 0634 multiple tentative contacts were spotted to the north  of the maneuver platoons moving west in a ditch.

Captain Steel of the Fire Support Team received the reports of possible OpFor activity in the ditch north of the friendly platoons. (Dude on the left)

From a rooftop in PB Rushdi Mullah he prepares to rain air burst Steel along the ditch line if OpFor activity is confirmed.  (I will have to make a note to look at the BDA on this one during the AAR map review.)

Back in the TOC at PB Rushdi Mullah activity picks up as officers work to stay on top of multiple developing situations.  Intel. analysts update the SitMap to reflect the current, fluid, situation in the field.

SitMap%200638_zpslhzmmjjg.jpg

NOTE: The top of the map is West.

1) At least 10 OpFor with RPGs moving east in a ditch line.

2) Two friendly casualties from an IED.  CasEvac needed.

3) OpFor moving west in a ditch line.

4) OpFor moving west in a ditch line.

5) The CO reviewed the SitMap and All Source Intelligence reports and suspected an OpFor group (#4 on SitMap) was moving west to take positions in the buildings at BP T148.  The previously completed Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) revealed that the only place for the OpFor to cross the canal to reach BP T148 was at the Eastern Canal Crossing.  Captain Steel was instructed to disrupt the OpFor movement at the crossing with mortar fire.  The CO reasoned that if the situation changed the mortar fire could be adjusted to a different threat.

6) Location of current 60mm, linear, air burst fire mission.

ADDITIONAL:  Radio report from 3rd platoon - incoming light mortar fire west of the SE Canal crossing.  Probable 82mm.

This is a great AAR mate, absolute top drawer.

********************SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T GOT THIS FAR IN THE MISSION*******************************************************

Bad luck with the IED on the crossing, in my proper playtests it never went off although I did check that it would detonate by setting up a specific test for it.

********************SPOILER ENDS SPOILER ENDS SPOILER ENDS *******************************************************

I guess you're feeling the pressure now ... although I also hope you're enjoying it.

Enjoyed playing this (and replaying) altho' due to work have only got halfway so far.  I wasn't sure if I needed to leave units at the "fort" or not, so replaying it.

***********  SPOILER ************

Oddly/luckily the first time I played, (playing carefully) I used smoke to obscure the crossing point and my first small teams got across.   The rest crossed after the smoke had dissipated and that's when a team got blowed up.  (That was depressing as I had been very careful to that point .)

I assumed that it was an IED which detonated when the triggerman has LOS to the crossing point.  If it is a triggered IED, then smoke is essential when crossing restricted chokepoints.

If it's a mine, it hard to see how anyone could accomplish this with 0 casualties as someone posted earlier.

SitRep 0700Hrs.  Persistent multiple air burst attacks by the OpFor caused 4 friendly casualties and about the same number of walking wounded.

 SitMap0700_zpsko46qtpk.jpg

1) OpFor units moving east are interdicted with fire by friendly forces in the area of PB Rushdi Mullah.

2) OpFor use air burst munitions on friendly forces.

3) Opfor use air burst munitions on friendly forces.

4) OpFor use air burst munitions on friendly forces.  This time the friendlies did not Hide and/or run far enough fast enough.  Four casualties and about four walking wounded.

After those casualties, the game should transition to the CNN phase where you have to explain why such heavy casualties were suffered and who is to blame.

Am glad to see other players take medical attention seriously.  However, in RL under fire, is it SOP to flee (to avoid more casualties) and only return to rescue later?

Situation dependent my friend but generally if you're in contact you either win the firefight or get out of the contact zone.  Care of the battle casualty training emphasises protecting the casualty from further injury but there is always an element of preventing further casualties.  These are the hard choices that the local commander (generally a corporal in his early 20s) has to make in an instant.

Back in the TOC officers review All Source Intelligence and attempt to locate the OpFor observer who was directing the air burst strikes against the maneuver platoons.  An OpFor HQ unit, with probable LOS to the previous air burst strikes, was identified.  The coordinates were sent to Captain Steel of the fire support team.
