Battlefront.com
Heh... yeah Here's a better article. Note that apparently Russian service personnel also like to take "vacations" in Syria and Russia says there are no Russian forces in Syria. Sound familiar? Nah!http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/09/01/russia-puts-boots-on-the-ground-in-syria.htmlSteve
MikeyD
Geez, Russia must be hemorrhaging money in these misadventures. Before the Ukraine crisis and the oil price drop Russia was said to have had an economy equivalent to Italy's. Now its economy must resemble Uganda's. I'm reminded of gambling addicts who, when losing badly, will insist on doubling-down on their bets in the hope of winning it all back. Still, I hesitate to fault Russia for going to help fight the guys who recently bulldozed Palmyra. I'm reminded of when Vietnam invaded Cambodia to overthrow Pol Pot and restore order on their border. Was I supposed to condemn Vietnam for that? VladimirTarasov
Hope to god that is real, We need to protect Syria from foreign backed terrorist organizations. If it is real it is totally fine by me BTW we have a base in Syria, It is totally normal for Russian soldiers to be there, Just like it was in Crimea. Nerdwing
Yeah, given the history it makes sense Russian troops are there. I imagine they'll be used defensively and as garrisons rather than open combatants and offensive operations though?
MikeyD
I just heard a tale, I don't know how true it is, that these Russian 'volunteers' are mainly comprised of soldiers recently returned from 'vacation' in Ukraine. Putin is apparently concerned that after they return home they're going to start telling tales out of school about events in Ukraine so best to ship them 1000 miles out of the country for awhile. Battlefront.com
Oooo... I had so many funny, yet extremely stinging, comebacks for at least one of the posts here. However, it's like shooting fish in a barrel AND it is off topic. So I'll lock this one.Steve
