John Kettler
Came across this while looking for a different article and thought it would be of interest. This is a distillation of how the Muj fought (and the Taliban fight), presented as a series of combat vignettes scattered around the country. This project was funded by USMC and used to teach tactics to the troops deploying to Afghanistan--without making the Marines read a 400 page book while frantically gearing up for deployment. Afghan Insurgent Tactics, Techniques, And Procedures Field Guide Based on “The Other Side of the Mountain: Mujahideen Tactics in the Soviet-Afghan War” by Ali Ahmad Jalali and Lester W. Grau With several new MCIA-developed vignettes from recent U.S. operations in Afghanistan https://info.publicintelligence.net/MCIA-InsurgentTTP.pdf Regards, John Kettler Edited July 2, 2015 by John Kettler

marklaker
If you enjoyed that, try "The Bear Went Over the Mountain". It's a review of tactical operations from the Russian standpoint. Read it on a cross country flight. You can find it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Bear-Went-over-Mountain-Afghanistan/dp/0788146653
