This vid is, hands down, the best manufacturer's vid I've ever seen. Most of it consists of a systematic walkthrough of every major aspect of the tank, with superb 3D graphics so good you may well weep. I found them breathtaking. Weapons and weapon capabilities, ammunition, visionics and vetronics, armor, active protection systems and signature reduction--all and more are covered--in a dazzling, highly informative way. A state-of-the-art tutorial for a state-of-the-art tank. No Nakidka discussion, though, some thermal signature reduction is apparently employed. Although someone should have told the producers how to spell "machine". With a claimed range of 4Km-5Km depending on conditions and the emphasis on crew survivability and 10 rounds/minute accurate fire, the new T90 should make the west's armaments family very happy as it looks like they'll have to make a lot of upgrades to the M1/Challenger/Leopard etc to compete. It's often more fun to play Red vs Blue, so looking forward to finally being able to mess with Blue in the way we've been doing to Red for a change. Soviet/Russian tanks have had long-range GLATGMs for a long time now. For some reason Western tank users have not felt the need to aggressively pursue competing on this particular point (several programs were cancelled). Other than that, what needs to be upgraded on latest Abrams to compete? They were the M551 Sheridan and the M60A2, both armed with the 152 mm MGM-51 series 152 Shillelagh. This weapon was also planned as part of the armament for the revolutionary joint US/German MBT-70, ultimately not built. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MGM-51_Shillelagh This vid doesn't show the Shillelagh firing, but it does show the high tech M60A2 very well (learned lots from the vid), and the comments are gold, being from people who worked on Sheridans and M60A2s. contrary to one comment, Shillelagh was not laser guided. Ever. Here's the Shillelagh firing. The answer to your question, generally true for all tanks if an antitank mine (effects vary by type and quantity) goes off under the tank hull, as opposed to the tracks...Boom! The carousel merely puts the locus of the boom in one place, as opposed to ammo being stored in multiple places within the fighting compartment. Mind, boom isn't always K-Kill, but today's mines will disable the tank, injure or kill the crew and may cause the tank to explode outright. Syrian Army T-72 vs antitank mine = dead T-72 and crew either dead or completely incapacitated, since no one gets out. M1A1 after running over an AT mine. Details on extent of damage are provided in the most informative comments. Tank is 100% M-Kill, but crew is okay. Simplified weapon discussion.
