Fury Movie Discussion.

Recommended Posts

Spoiler Alert if you have not seen the movie.

Im a pretty big WW2 movie fan and self proclaimed WW2 movie expert, lol.I saw Fury today.Overall I thought it was good. The WW2 grogs will love the authenticity of the vehicles, weapons , and uniforms. But I'm sure a few grogs will notice that the SS water canteen in the movie was only used on the EF,lol.

So here is my review:

Acting: good 6.

Athenticity/Production:Great 10. The movie had the only real working Tiger tank in the world.

Special Effects:Great 10.The tracers and ap rounds bouncing and ricocheting off the tanks was scary and spectacular.

Battle scenes:5 ok.Ranged from very good to ridiculous.

Overall 7 Good, I would say go see it, then we can discus the battle scenes.

I've heard from others who were VERY enthused after seeing the film from, you know, OUR perspective. ;) I hear the way Hollywood has truncated the ranges that battles are fought at might be a bit of an annoyance. But its just not particularly 'cinematic' to be trading shots with something 1200m away. I'm scheduling a block of time to go see it, myself.

The Sherman tank interior is too spacious by 10% Columbia Pictures please fix or sum fink ;-)

Tiger I stunt double tank has inferior armour to the real thing and is fataly flawed and until the movie is patched I refuse to pay to watch it in the cinema - A torrent download is altogether different...

Great tanks and special effects. Awful acting, weak plot and strange things happening. The ruined dinner part in the apartment was just confusing. The infantry acted like they were not sure the war was going on around them. Made the US military look like evil thugs. I give it a generous 3 out of 10.

Similar to my thoughts.

Technically very good. So far beyond the rolling gas drums of The Bulge, that it's hard to call both of them war movies.

Fury seems to have all the modern elements of a required movie: hardbitten vet; animal; religion; ethnic flavor; newb who has to learn. Insert various macabre/insensically violent scenes. Then we all sit around for a kumbahyah moment/scene. Next, we all die, until there is only one little indian left.

(I'll wait for Hollywood to decry the willingness of the rape victim to go along with it. Hell, she was young and alive. There is an odd bubble around that part of Los Angeles...)

Just got back from seeing FURY. I thought it was a very good film.

MANDATORY FOR MODDERS for ideas re vehicle and uniform wear and tear. Most looked realistic and nasty.

Of course it's an anti-war war film and it features extremely barbaric and nasty situations (and a lot of mud), but not particularly more nasty than SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. What is different is that so much takes place inside the (Easy 8?) tank - so shades of the DAS BOOT claustrophobic tension.

I recall kids at my old schools who were similar jerks, so why wouldn't the stress of surviving from North Africa to Germany make them even worse.

Best war film that's been out for a long time... the CM2 of war films if you like. So, recommended seeing.

I feel this movie is most certainly worth seeing... It gives you an intense sense of battle action... I don't think I've seen such spectacular effects with tracer fire in any war movie so far. As far as historical accuracy, it's about as good as it's gonna get for a hollywood movie. And like most hollywood movies, the story line depends on a few too many unlikely twists of fate as well illogical decisions/calls by the main characters. The big climax battle at the end is a bit too fantastical... I think it's the only time you really have to suspend your disbelief in order to enjoy the movie.

On a more technical level, the only thing that really had me scratching my head was when the four Shermans traveling line abreast got surprised while motoring right into the face of the lone Tiger... Smoke rounds were fired and the platoon immediately reversed the opposite direction, which would probably be a likely response. But once they regained their composure the platoon of Shermans decided to run straight back at the Tiger, guns blazing. Having played so much CM I kept thinking to myself they should split into pairs while they were reversing and immediately tried to get on the flanks forcing the Tiger to traverse and engage only one pair of flanking Shermans while the other pair knocked it out. :)

it is a movie-- I too wondered why they did not attack the flanks or just run some have talked bout at guns missing --but shots do miss because of aliment--fear. mistakes- as to the dumb ss-- in the book tank action Layette Poole 's tank got into something like that with ground troops --I noticed the round they Loaded for the 76mm was just big bullet - with a large ogive- nothing like apbc - as to being behind the Germans front line at the cross roads-- not really-- flank protection gone wrong-- we all can likely pick it apart but as far as armor goes a good movie--

...that final one-on-one duel between Fury and the Tiger was straight out of a World of Tanks video advertisement on YouTube...sheesh...ricochets at 50 meters???!!!

See, this is enough by itself to ruin the whole experience for me, especially at the end. The ending is the most important part of the movie. I'll pass.

You know what would actually be more challenging filmmaking and result in a better movie? Doing it right.

FAR FAR too many oddball turns of fate (one missed shot ok, 3 or 4?). Terrible tactics from the Tiger and the ending, well best not to bring that up. Only thing really going for it was the special effects were excellent.

As for the Tiger, personally I didn't give a rip that it was a real tiger rather than a lovely vismod based on a T34.

"Doing it right."

The movie would have been 99% boredom and 1% action lol. Let's not be so hard on an entertainment product which, like CM2 series, is the only good WW2 tank story out there.

One can pick ANY movie and a specialist who works in that field will complain "it's not right". I imagine the chefs and wait staff saying the same thing every time they see a restaurant scene.

We want to encourage MORE of these sorts of movies (and WW2 games). Deciding to boycott either is shooting yourself in the foot.

I expect I'll see it when it comes out on Netflix or something. I'll stick with U-571, the most realistic and well acted WW2 movie I've seen (cough, cough, choke!).

Saving private Ryan was reasonably good, enemy at the gates wasn't bad. I saw a movie called Stalingrad many years ago - that was a good WW2 movie.

Oh man, The Movie must have a Bug in it. Get BF to fix it or something.

I will not be able to watch it until patch 4.0 comes out and the Tiger does a proper number on that Sherman.

This thread has the same stupid complaints that many of the threads here in the forum have. You people really need to get a concept on what life is about.

One - Movies are not made to represent real life, if you think they do - major issue

Two - games that similate real life really dont - they function on the mechanics of a game - so there will always be aspects that do not work correct to real life.

That is all you get today for learning - class

Just be grateful they even tried to make a movie based on a WWII Tank.

as the backdrop to the storyline.
