4th Bn 66th Reg
So it appears that in this version of the game it is a lot easier for the axis to take Egypt than in the past. In fact, if the allied player doesn't advance in Libya or destroy the Italian fleet, it seems that it is almost impossible to defend Egypt against a determined axis player. The supply in Egypt for the allies is terrible even with two or three HQ's. The axis has better supply lines outside of El Alamein than the British in Alexandria! I have played three games in which the allied forces outnumbered the axis forces with air forces and ground units were dug in and Egypt still falls. The allies can't get reinforcements to Egypt either in the ladder games because loops are not allowed. Malta falls to easily compared to previous versions of the game too. In order to win in the area the allies really have to go on the offensive before German forces arrive in strength. So in order to have enough time to take Libya, the allied player almost has to force Italy into the war early. Thoughts from the beta testers and forum? Duke of York
If the Axis wants to take Egypt, it will do so. Italy itself hasn't enough power, but with german aid it becomes possible. But Germany needs all the MPP to prepare for Barbarossa. Every unit sended to the Med will result in weaker forces against the SU. Taking Egypt or not is an Axis decision - not an Allied. And if the UK looses Egypt, the SU should perform better against Germany. AoD is a global game. Don't look only to one specific area. Every concentration of power at one point has a disadvantage at another point.

steel32
To me one of the only ways the Germans truly had a chance of winning or say not losing in WWII was to take this approach. They could of took Egypt, Malta, the Middle East and not even have fought the soviets but got what they wanted out of pressure and strategic position. But perhaps that last point is not correct as a war between the 2 was almost inevitable from one side or the other.
lhughes41
Yes the Med strategy gave them a shot had it been pursued.
